Evangelism Disciples Are Those Who Walk to a Guaranteed Future (Joshua 1:1-9)
Rev. Kwang-su Ryu
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. 5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Introduction
Our missionaries will go into warfare towards the 237 nations and 5,000 tribes. The Israelites are now going to the place that they heard about. They were going to a land that was flowing with milk and honey, the land they only heard about. It was the most important time schedule in history. If we don’t know our guaranteed future, then we are in a world of unbelief. We will continue to have words of grumbling and will not be considerate towards others. You will be influenced and controlled by our environment. If you can see the future and turning point that God has prepared for you, then things will start to change. The way you see your future, past, and present will start to change. The problems arise, they are already different. That is why when we meet a great storm, you can tell if it is a good captain or not. Only when a war breaks out, can you tell whether a commander is good or not. The journey of the wilderness, you can see whether they are true evangelism disciples. Going into 5,000 tribes and 237 nations, this is a great war and Satan knows. Satan knows if you have the gospel or not. Satan fears you so there is only one method that he has. He keeps trying to make you fall into unbelief and makes things difficult for you. They faced a lot of hardships in the wilderness. There were three things that Joshua saw in advance. The first thing that Joshua saw was the age of Moses. He had the sure evidence since he was with Moses. After they went to go give the blood sacrifice, he knew of the message that was given to them. He saw the 10 miracles and Egypt being broken down, he saw how darkness and culture of darkness was broken down. God placed them before the Red Sea and Joshua saw that. We may not understand God completely but God took them before the Red Sea. A work arose in front of the Red Sea that was unimaginable but Joshua saw the great miracles. He saw the miracles in the wilderness and he saw what the Tabernacle was and the ark of the covenant were. Moses didn’t just see this but his coworkers saw this as well. We see our parents but there are things that we feel as well when we watch them. Joshua followed Moses for 40 years without shaking and saw everything. He saw the Lord God that was with Moses. He saw Moses who was with God. This is important. Whenever problems arose, Joshua saw Moses and God together. What was more important was when Joshua became a lay officer. As multi-ethnic worker, you must see this. It was the 12 tribes. There are prepared regions for missionaries. We need to do 24 hours. Remnants don’t ask anymore questions, just do 24 hours. The 12 tribes went into the 12 regions but 10 spies said that they could not enter Canaan. But Joshua and Caleb reported that they could enter. This was because they saw the 12 regions. Just like God promised Moses, God asp promised to the Israelites that He promised to give this land to the Israelites. There is something that God has already given to us. God repeated Himself 7 times, that no one can defeat the Israelites, don’t be afraid, and don’t be alarmed. God said that He commanded them, He commanded them to be strong and courageous, and don’t be afraid. For the Lord God will be with them. God repeatedly said this 7 times. Joshua knew of this. From this, great works arose and a great time schedule took place. But what must we hold onto and go out with? Joshua held onto the sure and absolute covenant. No matter how hard things are, hold onto the sure covenant and if you do this, then you will be victorious. What did Joshua hold onto?
1. The Path of "Only" Which Has Been Restored After 400 Years
After 400 years, the path was restored. It was the only way of only. This was the time schedule. That was tremendous. When I saw this, I realized that Red Sea splitting was not a miracle but it was rightful. They were victorious in the wilderness, it was rightful. For God, none of this is nothing. When food drops, ants get all over it. But when we step next to it, the ants flee. Then, they take the leftovers to their homes but when we appear again, they flee again. Our years of walk of faith, the word that God has given to us, is food for us.
Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” - It was the day when the original gospel was restored. The head of the serpent was crushed. This was an amazing thing.
Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the Lord had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ ” - This was what God said to Abraham. God said to Abraham that no one can go against him and he is the foundation of blessings. The reason is because through him, all people will be blessed. This was a tremendous time when God’s word was fulfilled.
Exodus 3:18 “Then they will heed your voice; and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ ” - God said again and no one could understand but only Moses could. God commanded Moses to go give the blood sacrifice. This great power is happening to save all the world and it started with Canaan. We are restoring the fundamental things. What is the most important thing? It is to go to the land of Canaan, the promised land and to do world evangelism. We must save our region and save ourselves. Then this blessing will come to us. I bless you that 24 hour disciples will arise in your field and church. When we do 24 hours, then our field will overturn.
2. The Path of "Uniqueness" Where the Word is Fulfilled
This is our time schedule. I am praying right now that we can raise up the model church where there are no courtyards. What God told Moses, it is being fulfilled right now. We are on this path. This is the unique path. It is the unique path where the word of God will be fulfilled. If we are inside of this, then there is nothing for us to be afraid of. When we were slaves, what was that? God showed them the absolute missions. What did God show when they exited Egypt? It was God’s absolute deliverance. When they entered Canaan, it was the start of the absolute missions. We can’t do world evangelism by ourselves. We can’t do three courtyards but borrowing buildings but God said in verse 3 that He promised Moses. God will be with us as God was with Moses, and He will leave us nor forsake us. It has been guaranteed to us but why does God keep telling us not to be alarmed and discouraged? The path that we will go, there will be things that will try to deceive us. Don’t be alarmed and discouraged. Since our path is so important, Satan will try to deceive us but God tells us to be courageous. God tells us to not be afraid for He will be with us. God promised that He will never leave us. God will never forsake you. Just like God was with Moses, He promised that He will be with us as well.
3. The Path of Re-creation to Save the World - "Cross the Jordan"
This was tremendous. The path for our missionaries, they are going towards only. The path of only is the path of uniqueness and recreation. The way of recreation to do world missions was to go towards the Jordan River. God gave us the accurate word. Through the 10 miracles, God destroyed Egypt. How can you defeat the Egyptians when they were chasing them and the Red Sea was in front of them. What were they going to do? At that time, Moses had conviction that God will split the Red Sea, the people of God will be able to cross it, and God will destroy the Egyptian army. Moses boldly said this. Many people didn’t witness this but people died during this event and in the wilderness. But God showed them. God had them cross the Jordan River. This was the word of God of recreation, a time of challenge.
Conclusion
Our missionaries must find the guaranteed path and future. How did Moses have victory and was not discouraged? He knew how to do world evangelism by God’s grace. He was chased to the brink of death but he never wavered. He boldly proclaimed that God was with him because he already knew. You need to know this and go out with this. Joshua witnessed all of this. No one was able to help Joseph and Potiphar’s wife had no power but Joseph didn’t say anything because he couldn’t. He knew of God’s guaranteed future and the turning point for him. You need to find your turning point. You need to confirm this wherever you go. If you can’t see where you are going in the midst of darkness, then you will be discouraged. You may ask God why he is doing these things to you. But these are incorrect questions. Remnants, you must understand this. People were chasing to kill David but if he did not have the answer, then he would be discouraged and shaken. But he received the answer when he was a child and he was anointed with oil. He was prepared to make the temple of God. He raised the bartizan to block all of the disasters of the world. He received God’s covenant and power. He overcame all of the problems that came to him. Hold onto what is guaranteed for you. This is not difficult at all. I realized a long time ago that I didn’t worship God at all. I couldn’t feel that God’s word was not alive at all. But then I thought that I was not able to worship God at all. You need to confirm this. I realized that I was not praying at all. I was able to confirm my state. From that moment on, I was able to gain the power of 24 hour prayer. If not, I cannot do it with my standards. I realized that evangelism had nothing to do with me. Then this means that the word of Jesus is nothing to do and it is meaningless. From that moment on, the blessing of evangelism came upon me. You need to confirm this. The one region and that was the flow of God’s restoration. I had a revival for world evangelism and world missions. I had this conviction. I saw this flow. I knew that numerous patients needed to be healed. I healed them by praying in the name of Jesus Christ. People started gathering. We went up to the mountain and we started yelling out in prayer because it was so cold. In that way, the flow of the field was shown to me. I thought to myself if we continue to do this, then we cannot do world evangelism. So I thought about how we can do world evangelism. There are 237 nations that we can have communication with. We can communicate information and offering with. I saw that Coca-Cola has entered into 290 nations. What is greater than 237 nations is the 5,000 tribes where the gospel has never entered into. We need to receive true answers. God promised us that He will be with us with His power. With the power of the filing of the Holy Spirit and great power, God promised to be with us. Let us have a new start with this new year. Our missionaries, hold onto the sure covenant and have victory.
