바울의 완전한 변화(행26:19-23)

서론

제가 한 칼럼을 읽었다. 프레드라는 한 청년이 생선구이 집에서 오랫동안 일을 했다고 한다. 이 식당은 수십년동안 한 번도 수리를 하지 않았던 식당이었다. 너무나 식당이 더러웠다. 벽지도 더럽고 갈라진 틈이 있어서 아주 흉했다. 구석구석 마다 먼지가 많고 바퀴벌레가 나올 정도였다. 뿐만 아니라 냄새도 났다. 그래서 프레드의 생선구이 집이라 하면 사람들이 냄새가 나고 더러운 집이라고 생각했다. 그런데 어느날 사람들의 흥미를 끌만한 문구가 붙어있었다. 그 문구를 보니까 주인이 바뀌었습니다. 이름도 바뀌었다. 프레드릭 생선 전문 레스토랑으로 바뀌었다. 이 청년은 거기서 계속 일했지만 아무런 권한이 없이 일을 했던 것이다. 단지 새 주인의 명령만 듣고 집을 리모델링하는데 같이 동참했다. 그가 주인이 바뀌자마자 대청소를 하기 시작했다. 지금까지 쓰던 낡은 식탁을 다 버렸다. 벽지도 새로 발랐다. 더러운 의자도 새 의자로 갈았다. 바닥도 새 카펫으로 갈았다. 식당이 완전히 새로워진 것이다. 놀랍게도 많은 사람들이 찾아오기 시작했다. 이전에 손님들이 거의 찾아오지 않았는데 이제는 많이 찾아오게 되었다. 그 원인이 무엇인가. 딱 한가지였다. 식당 주인이 바뀌었다는 것이다. 똑같은 장소, 음식이지만 주인 하나가 바뀌니까 이처럼 놀라운 변화가 일어났다. 식당 자체가 주인 한 명이 바뀌니까 모든 것이 바뀌었다는 것이다. 우리가 사도바울을 보고있다. 사도바울도 주인이 바뀌니까 인생이 완전히 바뀌었다. 이것을 보게되면 식당 뿐 아니라 우리 자신도 주인이 바뀌는 것이 얼마나 중요한 가를 알 수 있다. 사도바울 뿐 아니라 우리도 주인이 바뀌니까 완전히 바뀐 삶을 살고있는 줄로 믿는다. 우리의 삶은 내 주인이 누구냐에 따라서 완전히 달라진다.

1. 바울의 변증

1) 바울의 인생여정

사도바울은 완전히 주인이 바뀐 상태에서 새 주인에게 명령을 받게 된다. 너는 나의 종과 증인만 되라 하면서 명령을 받았던 것이다. 네가 박해하는 예수다 하신 분이 너는 내 종과 증인이 될 것이다 말씀하신 것이다. 그 주님 앞에서 감히 못하겠습니다라고 이야기를 못하는 것이다. 사도바울에게 있어서는 자기가 본 것을 전하지 않게되면 주님을 거역하는 상태가 되는 것이다. 여기서 우리는 사도바울이 어떻게 그리스도인이 되었는가를 보아야겠다. 자신의 능력과 의지와는 전혀 관계없이 그리스도인이 되었다. 이것이 바로 은혜이다. 뿐만 아니라 부르심을 받는 순간에 전도자의 축복 속으로 들어가게 되었다. 그 죄인이 그리스도인이 된 것만도 대단한데 어떻게 전도자의 축복 속으로 들어갔는가. 그러나 롬 9:20에 사도바울이 이야기한다.

롬 9:20 이 사람아 네가 누구이기에 감히 하나님께 반문하느냐 지음을 받은 물건이 지은 자에게 어찌 나를 이같이 만들었느냐 말하겠느냐

토기장이가 그릇을 만들 때 이것은 금을 담을 그릇이고 하나는 쓰레기를 담을 그릇이다 하는 것이 토기장이 마음이다. 내가 구원시켜서 전도자로 삼겠다는데 네가 무슨 말을 하냐는 것이다.

2) 하나님의 절대주권

모든 것은 하나님의 절대 주권에 달렸다는 것이다. 우리가 지금 여기 앉아있는 것도 하나님의 절대주권 가운데서 앉아있는 것이다. 내가 하나님의 자녀가 된 것도 노력이나 의지에 의해서 된 것이 아니다. 하나님의 절대적인 은혜와 주권에 의해서 그렇게 된 것이다. 이 복음가진 우리가 이 자리에 앉은 것이 하나님의 절대 은혜이다. 그래서 우리는 하나님께 감사할 수 밖에 없다. 이 부르심을 받은 사도바울은 즉시로 다메섹과 예루살렘과 유대와 이방인에게까지 가서 복음을 전했다.

행 26:20 먼저 다메섹과 예루살렘에 있는 사람과 유대 온 땅과 이방인에게까지 회개하고 하나님께로 돌아와서 회개에 합당한 일을 하라 전하므로

이 언약을 잡은 구원받은 사도바울은 즉시로 예수님께서 주신 절대적인 언약, 행 1:8의 언약을 따라 전도자의 삶을 살았다. 하나님의 언약을 붙잡게되니까 전도자의 축복 속으로, 예수님을 핍박했던 자가 들어가는 것을 볼 수 있다. 사도바울은 고백한다.

고전15:10 그러나 내가 나 된 것은 하나님의 은혜로 된 것이니 내게 주신 그의 은혜가 헛되지 아니하여 내가 모든 사도보다 더 많이 수고하였으나 내가 한 것이 아니요 오직 나와 함께 하신 하나님의 은혜로라

우리에게 복음을 주시고 지금까지 인도해주신 것은 절대적인 하나님의 은혜이다. 우리가 날마다 기도할 때 마다 말씀을 볼 때마다 고백하지 아니할 수 없다. 어쩌자고 내가 이런 축복된 자리에 들어왔는가. 내가 어떻게 복음을 증거할 수 있는 자리에 앉아있느냐는 것이다. 정말로 기가막힌 사건이다.

고전 15:43 욕된 것으로 심고 영광스러운 것으로 다시 살아나며 약한 것으로 심고 강한 것으로 다시 살아나며

참으로 사도바울은 하나님 앞에 부끄러운 것도 많았다. 부끄러운 자기 자신을 드러내니까 하나님께서 영광스러운 자리에 있게 하셨다. 약한 것으로 심으니까 강한 것으로 살아났다. 나는 너무나 약한데 하나님께서 나를 강한 자로 들어쓰신다. 하나님께서 모든 부끄러운 과거를 통해서 영광을 받으시는 발판이 된다. 나의 연약한 것 때문에 우리가 약해질 필요가 없다. 주님 안에 들어가게되면 하나님께서는 강한 것으로 우리를 세우신다. 이것은 하나님의 주권이다. 이 힘을 받은 사도바울은 담대하게 아그립바 왕에게 증언한다.

2. 바울의 증언 내용

1) 유대인들의 옛틀

행 26:21 유대인들이 성전에서 나를 잡아 죽이고자 하였으나

나를 성전을 모독한 자로 죽이려한다는 것이다. 그러나 사도바울은 그 죽이려는 원인을 너무나 잘 알고있다. 행 22:21에 본 것과 마찬가지로 예수님께서 하신 말씀이다.

행 22:21 나더러 또 이르시되 떠나가라 내가 너를 멀리 이방인에게로 보내리라 하셨느니라

이 예수님께서 하신 말씀을 전하자마자 유대인들이 소리를 지르면서 저 놈을 잡아죽이라고 했다. 유대인들은 이방인들이 하나님의 자녀가 되는 것을 싫어하는 것이다. 그 이야기를 공공연하게 사도바울이 이야기하니까 저것을 죽여야겠다 해서 결사대까지 만들었다.

행 26:22 하나님의 도우심을 받아 내가 오늘까지 서서 높고 낮은 사람 앞에서 증언하는 것은 선지자들과 모세가 반드시 되리라고 말한 것밖에 없으니

이 사도바울이 실질적으로 위기를 당할 때 하나님께서 한가지 한가지 다 피할 수 있도록 인도하셨다. 아그립바 왕 앞에서 지금 그 얘기를 하는 것이다. 내가 하나님의 실질적으로 복음을 증거하니까 도와주셨다 하는 것이다. 사도바울이 자기가 복음 증거한 내용을 말하는 것이다. 사도바울이 증거한 것은 선지자들과 모세가 반드시 되리라고 말한 것을 증거했다는 것이다. 선지자들과 모세라는 것은 구약 성경을 말하는 것이다. 분명히 구약에서도 예수님께서 복음을 통해서 이방인이 구원받은 것이라는 것을 많이 말하셨다.

출 19:6 너희가 내게 대하여 제사장 나라가 되며 거룩한 백성이 되리라 너는 이 말을 이스라엘 자손에게 전할지니라

이 제사장의 나라라는 것은 너희를 이방나라를 구원할 수 있는 나라로 삼겠다는 것이다. 모세를 통해서 이미 이방인 구원이 있을 것이라는 것을 말씀하셨다.

사 42:1 내가 붙드는 나의 종, 내 마음에 기뻐하는 자 곧 내가 택한 사람을 보라 내가 나의 영을 그에게 주었은즉 그가 이방에 정의를 베풀리라

예수 그리스도를 보내서 이방인에게 십자가의 피를 증거해서 이방인을 살릴 것을 예언하신 것이다. 사도바울은 내가 성경에 없는 것을 증거한 것이 아니라 성경에 나타난 예언을 그대로 증거한 것 밖에 없다는 것이다. 사도바울이 좀 더 구체적으로 들어가는 것을 볼 수 있다.

2) 모세오경의 핵심내용

행 26:23 곧 그리스도가 고난을 받으실 것과 죽은 자 가운데서 먼저 다시 살아나사 이스라엘과 이방인들에게 빛을 전하시리라 함이니이다 하니라

모세오경과 선지자서에 기록한 핵심 내용이 바로 예수님이 죽으실 것이라는 예언이다. 모세오경은 모세가 쓴 다섯가지 성경을 얘기한다. 창세기 출애굽기 레위기 신명기 민수기를 이야기한다. 이 다섯가지 성경의 핵심 내용이 무엇인가. 이 모세오경의 핵심 내용은 그리스도의 죽으심에 대한 예언이다. 유월절 사건을 중심해서 모든 모세오경이 이루어지고있다. 인간의 죄를 위해서 메시야를 보내는데 그가 십자가에 못박혀 죽게될 것이라는 사실을 예언한다. 그런데 유대인들은 성경에 나타나는 메시야를 받아들일 수 없었던 것이다. 그들이 생각하는 메시야는 고난 받고 죽는 메시야가 아니었다. 지금도 유대인들이 생각하는 메시야관은 그가 나타나면 모든 세상 왕들을 정복할 것이라고 생각한다. 영원한 유다 왕국을 이룰 것이라는 것이다. 하나님의 공의를 메시야가 이 땅에 베풀것이라는 것이다. 메시야는 모세가 이 땅에서 출애굽을 일으켰던 것 처럼 놀라운 능력을 행하면서 그 뜻이 이룰 것이라고 기대하는 것이다. 그런데 사도바울은 그게 아니라는 것이다. 메시야는 성경의 기록을 보게되면 뜻을 이루기 위해서 죽으신다는 것을 예언한다는 것이다. 모세오경의 핵심이 양의 피, 유월절 어린 양의 피이다. 양의 피라는 것은 십자가에 죽으심을 예언하는 것이다.

출 12:12 내가 그 밤에 애굽 땅에 두루 다니며 사람이나 짐승을 막론하고 애굽 땅에 있는 모든 처음 난 것을 다 치고 애굽의 모든 신을 내가 심판하리라 나는 여호와라

지금 하나님께서 말씀하신 것이다. 유월절 피를 바르는 순간에 내가 모든 처음 난 것을 다 치고 애굽에 있는 모든 신을 심판 할 것이다 말씀하신다. 이 모든 신이라는 것은 사탄을 상징한다. 내가 사탄을 정복하겠다는 것이다. 만왕의 왕인 것이 증거한다는 것이다. 유대인 메시야관 처럼 세상을 정복하는 것이 아니라 세상 사람을 지배하고 있는 사단의 세력을 꺾게되는 것이다. 유월절 희생양을 통해서 그것을 보여주시는 것이다.

출 13:15 그 때에 바로가 완악하여 우리를 보내지 아니하매 여호와께서 애굽 나라 가운데 처음 난 모든 것은 사람의 장자로부터 가축의 처음 난 것까지 다 죽이셨으므로 태에서 처음 난 모든 수컷들은 내가 여호와께 제사를 드려서 내 아들 중에 모든 처음 난 자를 다 대속하리니

애굽 땅에 있는 모든 처음 난 자는 다 죽이겠다는 것이다. 처음 난 자의 의미는 상속자를 나타낸다. 모든 것을 물려받을 자를 나타낸다. 네 모든 상속자를 다 없애버리겠다는 것이다. 흑암의 권세, 사단의 권세의 상속자, 사단의 렘넌트를 하나님께서 다 쳐버리시겠다는 것이다. 그리고 내가 여호와께 제사를 드려서 처음 난 자를 다 대속하겠다는 것이다. 유월절 어린양을 통해서 처음 난 자, 렘넌트를 살리겠다는 것이다. 유월절 희생양을 통해서 대속하시겠다는 것이다. 모든 죄가 용서함 받는 하나님의 공의를 나타내겠다는 것이다. 놀라운 사실이다. 유월절 사건을 통해서 참제사장 되신 예수님을 예언한 것이다. 처음 난 자를 대속한다는 것은 나의 유업을 이을 자를 대속한다는 것이다.

출 12:49본토인에게나 너희 중에 거류하는 이방인에게 이 법이 동일하니라 하셨으므로

이 희생양의 피의 놀라운 능력과 역사는 이방인에게도 똑같은 효력이 있다는 것이다. 유월절 희생양의 피를 내서 문에 피를 바른 자들은 유대인 뿐 아니라 이방인도 똑같이 하나님의 자녀가 된다는 것이다. 바로 그 날에 나타나는 것이다.

출 12:51 바로 그 날에 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손을 그 무리대로 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내셨더라

문에 피를 바른 모든 사람들은 모두 가나안 땅에 들어가게되는 것이다. 그리스도의 피를 믿는 자는 모두 천국에 들어간다는 것이다. 모두가 하나님 자녀가 되서 그 권세와 신분을 누리게된다는 것이다. 구약에 나타나는 유월절 사건을 통해서 이미 하나님께서는 그리스도의 3직분을 예언하신 것이다. 사도바울은 이것을 잡았다. 유월절의 희생양이 무엇을 의미하는지 아느냐 하고 아그립바왕에게 이야기하는 것이다. 그 분은 십자가에서 죽으셔야한다는 것이다. 그리고 모든 것을 완성하지 증거로 부활하셔야한다는 것이다. 많은 사람에게 너희들도 이것을 믿게되면 하나님 자녀가 된다 하고 선포하는 것이다. 사도바울은 이 언약을 잡았다. 이 언약을 잡는 순간에 완전한 변화가 일어났다.

3. 바울의 완전한 변화

1) 옛 틀

그렇게 예수님 믿는 사람을 잡으러 다니던 사도바울이 완전히 옛 틀이 깨지는 역사가 나타났다. 유대인들이 실패한 원인이 무엇인가. 지금도 실패하고 있는 원인이 잘못된 메시야관을 가지고 있는 것이다. 여기서 벗어나지 못하는 한 끝까지 하나님 대적하는 자 인 것을 알 수 있다. 우리가 이것을 잘 잡아야한다. 우리가 언약을 바로 잡지 못하게 되면 실패의 삶을 살 수 밖에 없다. 우리가 금요일날 메세지를 잠깐 들었었다. 나의 현재의 모습은 나의 과거의 각인된 것의 결과이다. 내가 지금 어떤 삶을 살 것인가에 따라 내 미래가 결정된다. 그런데 더 중요한 것이 있다. 나의 주인이 누구냐는 것이다. 나의 영적 주인이 누구냐는 것이다. 내 영적 주인이 우리 주님이시고 하나님이시면 만사 오케이다. 그러나 아직까지도 나의 주인이 흑암의 종노릇하고 있다면 심각한 것이다. 우리가 아무리 열심히 하고 노력하고 성공한다고 해도 내 주인이 사단이라고 한다면 마귀의 종노릇 하는 것이다. 실컷 성공하고 박사학위 많이 받아놓고 마귀의 종노릇 하면서 고통 속에 살아갈 수 밖에 없다. 나는 이것을 볼 때 마다 서박사님이 생각난다. 서울에서 경부고 서울대 나온 최고 엘리트이다. 박사 학위도 두 개 받았다. 나사에서 로케트 정비하는 일을 했다. 어릴 때 각인된 영적 문제, 흑암의 권세 때문에 영적인 문제가 와버렸다. 직장 잃어버리고 마귀의 종노롯 하면서 정신문제가 해결되지 않아서 약을 수십개를 먹고 살았다. 세상 성공하는게 문제가 아니다. 무엇보다도 내가 하나님의 자녀라는 것이 너무나 중요하다. 하나님의 자녀라도 내 삶의 주인이 그리스도냐 하는 것이 너무나 중요하다. 우리는 여기서 흑암, 사단의 원세에서 빠져나와야한다. 사도바울은 여기서 완전히 벗어난 것을 우리에게 보여주고있다. 사도바울이 벗어난 것은 그리스도를 만나는 순간이었다. 빠져나온 것 뿐 아니라 완전히 결단하면서 언약을 잡았다. 하나님의 자녀된 순간에 하나님의 소명을 제대로 자기 것을 붙잡았다는 것이다. 그 때 하나님께서는 지상 최고의 전도자로 사도바울을 사용하셨다. 그래서 사도바울은 고백했다.

딤전 1:15 미쁘다 모든 사람이 받을 만한 이 말이여 그리스도 예수께서 죄인을 구원하시려고 세상에 임하셨다 하였도다 죄인 중에 내가 괴수니라

정말로 하나님 은혜가 지극한 것을 고백하는 것이다. 죄인 중에 괴수였던 내가 어쩌자구 구원을 받아서 전도자가 됬냐는 것이다. 이 비결은 오직 그리스도만 잡은 것이다. 오직 그리스도만을 위해서 살겠다고 결단을 내린 것이다. 완전히 인생이 뒤바뀌어진 것을 볼 수 있다. 지상 사람들이 보면 참으로 어리석은 사람이다. 그러나 하나님 속에 들어가니까 완전히 뒤바껴지는 어마어마한 축복 속에 들어갔다. 사도바울이 새 틀을 잡고나게 된 후 놀라운 변화가 일어났다.

2) 새 틀

새 틀에 대한 언약을 잡고있다. 우리가 새 틀 속에 들어가게 되면 그리스도 속에 들어가게 되면 그리스도께 모든 것을 맡기게 되면 모든 것이 변화된다. 처음 변화되는 것이 개인이 완전히 변하게 된다.

고후 5:17 그런즉 누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 새로운 피조물이라 이전 것은 지나갔으니 보라 새 것이 되었도다

우리는 완전히 새로운 피조물이다. 우리는 더이상 사단의 종이 아니다. 사단을 지배할 수 있는 권세와 신분이 있는 하나님의 자녀다. 뿐만 아니라 그리스도안에 들어가게 되면 가문이 변화되는 역사를 체험하게 된다. 행 16:33-34을 보게되면 간수 집안이 사도바울의 메세지를 듣고 영접함으로서 변화된 모습을 볼 수 있다.

행 16:34 그들을 데리고 자기 집에 올라가서 음식을 차려 주고 그와 온 집안이 하나님을 믿으므로 크게 기뻐하니라

간수 뿐만 아니라 온 가족이 다 하나님을 믿음으로 크게 기뻐하는 변화가 일어났다. 여러분들 가정에도 이 축복이 있기를 원한다. 완전 그리스도로 원네스 되는 축복이 임하길 바란다. 뿐만 아니라 하나님의 자녀가 가는 곳에는 지역이 변하게된다. 행 8:7-8에는 빌립집사가 행한 사마리아 전도가 나온다.

행 8:7-8 많은 사람에게 붙었던 더러운 귀신들이 크게 소리를 지르며 나가고 또 많은 중풍병자와 못 걷는 사람이 나으니. 그 성에 큰 기쁨이 있더라

사도바울 한 사람이 갔는데 온 사마리아 성 사람들이 크게 기쁨을 얻었다. 이것은 분명히 빌립집사 한 사람만을 이야기하는 것이 아니다. 여러분들 가는 발길에도 이런 일이 일어나고 있는 줄로 믿는다. 여러분들 가는 발길마다 함께 계신 주님께서 역사하실 때 이런 역사가 틀림어없이 나타난다. 우리는 이미 그 축복을 받았고 그 신분과 권세를 갖고있는 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 이 복음을 가진 자를 통해서 나라까지 변한다. 사무엘을 통해서 역사가 나타난 것이 기록되어있다.

삼상 7:13 이에 블레셋 사람들이 굴복하여 다시는 이스라엘 지역 안에 들어오지 못하였으며 여호와의 손이 사무엘이 사는 날 동안에 블레셋 사람을 막으시매

사무엘 때문에 여호와의 손이 블레셋을 막았다는 것이다. 정말 사무엘이 전적으로 주님께 맡기니까 주님께서 나라의 공격을 막아주신다. 여러분 한 사람의 기도를 통해서 미국이 살 줄로 믿는다. 한국이 보고 받게될 줄로 믿는다. 뿐만 아니라 한 사람 때문에 세계가 변화되는 역사가 일어난다.

행 27:24 바울아 두려워하지 말라 네가 가이사 앞에 서야 하겠고 또 하나님께서 너와 함께 항해하는 자를 다 네게 주셨다 하였으니

사도바울 한 사람 때문에 정복되는 역사가 일어났다. 이 한 사람 때문에 이렇게 역사가 일어났다. 어떻게 해서 그런가. 그 안에 만왕의 왕, 만주의 주 되신 예수님께서 계시기 때문이다. 그 분이 계신다면 능치 못한 일이 없는 줄로 믿는다. 정말 믿으시기 바란다. 우리가 지금 우리의 연약한과 부족함, 개인 문제 가정 문제 때문에 묶여있으면 안된다. 온 천지를 창조하시고 만주의 주이신 그 분께서 나와 함께하신다면 그런 것은 문제가 아니라는 것이다. 이 다섯가지 변화를 나의 언약으로 붙잡고 기도하게 되면 나를 통해서 분명히 역사가 나타나게 될 줄로 믿는다. 분명한 것은 이 사람들 속에 있었던 성령이 우리에게 있는 성령과 똑같은 성령이다. 입을 크게 열리시기 바란다. 힘써 기도하시기 바란다. 응답받는 여러분 되시기 바란다.

결론

렘 33:2-3 일을 행하시는 여호와, 그것을 만들며 성취하시는 여호와, 그의 이름을 여호와라 하는 이가 이와 같이 이르시도다. 너는 내게 부르짖으라 내가 네게 응답하겠고 네가 알지 못하는 크고 은밀한 일을 네게 보이리라

입을 크게 열고 부르짖으시기 바란다. 하나님 나를 통해서 가정, 지역, 나라, 세계가 변화되는 놀라운 역사가 있게 하옵소서. 오늘 서론에서 말씀드렸다. 주인만 바뀌면 되는 것이다. 그 주인을 위해서 모든 뱡향을 바꾸시기 바란다. 그렇게 된다면 하나님께서 여러분들을 바꾸어나가실 줄로 믿는다.

Scripture: “19 'Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. 21 For these reasons the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me. 22 Therefore, having obtained help from God, to this day I stand, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses said would come— 23 that the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.' ”

I read a news article and it was about a young man named Frederick who worked at grilled fish restaurant for a long time. This restaurant was a restaurant that has not been remodeled or cleaned for decades.So, this restaurant was very dirty and wasn’t cleaned for years, and there was so much dust to the point where cockroaches will come. Not only that but the restaurant had a very strange and dirty smell. When people saw this restaurant, they always thought of this place as a very dirty place but one day, there was a phrase that caught the attention of the people that was posted on the door of this restaurant. The post that was posted was that the management and name of this restaurant had changed. The name of this restaurant changed to “Frederick’s Grilled Fish Restaurant”. This young man worked for years there but had no authority, and the only thing that he was part of was the remodeling process for the restaurant. While they were remodeling the restaurant, they threw away all of the dinning tables and cleaned the entire restaurant. Even the floors, they ripped out the old floors and put a new carpet, and the entire restaurant was changed. Strangely, when they changed the entire restaurant, customers started flooding into this restaurant. The only reason why more customers came was because there was a new management. It was the same place and food but people started coming because there was a different management and owner. Because of one thing, which was the fact that the owner and management was changed, everything ended up changing for this restaurant. We have been looking at Paul in the past sermons but when Paul had a new master, his life changed entirely. This is not just referring to the restaurant but this is so important when we change the master of our lives. Not only for Paul but when we change our master of our lives, then everything will completely change. Your life depends on who is the master of your life. For Apostle Paul, he received a command from a new master over his life. He received the command from God to become God’s witness and servant. Paul saw a tremendous light and heard a voice coming from God, declaring that he will be raised him up as God’s witness and servant. Of course, he couldn’t dare to reject what God was commanding him to do when God called him forward. This was because if God rejected God’s command at that moment, we could see God’s judgment and wrath coming upon Paul. There is something that we must think about here. How did Paul come to realize that Jesus was the Christ for him? The reason why Paul became a person of God was not because of his own ability or power. This was all part of God’s grace. Not only did he become a person of God but he also entered the blessing of evangelism through God’s grace. How did Paul he receive forgiveness of his great sins and become a great evangelist? How was this possible? 

1. Paul's Apologetics

1) Paul's life journey

Paul explained in Romans 9:20 (“But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, 'Why have you made me like this?' ”) - It is up to the potter to decide if he wants to make this pot out of gold and to make another pot for trash. You say that you will raise up disciples and do evangelism, for God, that is impossible for you to do. This is because everything is within God’s sovereignty. The fact that we are here and sitting here is because God allowed us to be here. This is called God’s sovereignty. None of this was possible and we didn’t become a child of God because we were special but it was within God’s sovereignty and His absolute grace. The fact that we have received the gospel and sitting here, this is all part of God’s grace. That is why we have no choice but to give thanksgiving to God. 

2) God's sovereignty

Paul who received calling from God, it is written in verse 20 - He received the command to share the gospel to all people. Paul who received salvation, He received God’s absolute mission and calling to share the gospel and live the life of evangelism as the covenant was given in Acts 1:8. The moment he held onto God’s covenant, he was able to enter into the blessing of evangelism and stood in the place of answers. 

That is why Paul confessed in 1 Corinthians 15:10, 43 (“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.”) - Paul confessed that nothing was done by his own ability but it was completely by God’s grace that he was able to reach this point of blessings and answers. You have gotten this far in life because of God’s grace. We need to confess of God’s grace on a daily basis. That is why we have no choice but to think and wonder, what have you done to God to deserve God’s tremendous blessings? We are truly in the midst of great blessings and grace. 

1 Corinthians 15:43 - There were a lot of things that Paul was ashamed about before God in his life. But when he exposed all of his weaknesses to God, God placed him in a place of glory. Like it said in the scripture, it was sown in weakness but raised in power. God is able to change our weakness into power. He realized that he was so weak but God raised Paul up with power. Even though we may have lived an ashamed life but God will raise us up with power so that we can manifest God’s glory within our lives. God will change our weaknesses into power. That is why we don’t need to be bound down because of our weakness. God will raise up our weakness into power. This is all part of God’s sovereignty. Paul who received this power, he was to boldly testify before King Agrippa. 

2. Paul's Testimony

1) The old frame of the Jews

Verses 21-22 - Paul was stating that the Jews were after to kill him. This was because the Jews accused Paul of blaspheming and impurifying the temple. But, we know why they were trying to kill Paul. It was seen in Acts 22:21-22 (“Then He said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you far from here to the Gentiles.’ 22 And they listened to him until this word, and then they raised their voices and said, 'Away with such a fellow from the earth, for he is not fit to live!' ”) - Jesus Christ commanded and commissioned Paul to share the gospel to the Gentiles. But the moment Paul started sharing the gospel to the Gentiles, the Jews started persecuting and tried to kill him. The Jews did not want the Gentiles to be saved and receive salvation. That is why the Jews came together to tell all people to come together to kill Paul. In the midst of that, it is seen in verse 22 that Paul overcame that persecution and tribulation within God’s power and help. God guided Paul perfectly so that he could avoid all problems and hardships that came to him because of persecution by the Jews. This was because all Paul did was share the gospel, that is why God guided him perfectly. This was what Paul was testifying to King Agrippa. Also, Paul was sharing the content of the gospel to King Agrippa and the Jews. Paul was saying that he was proclaiming the gospel that the prophets and Moses was proclaiming. This was referring to the prophecies that were spoken by the prophets and Moses. It was prophesied in the Old Testament that the Gentiles will be saved and receive salvation. 

If we see in  Exodus 19:6 (“And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”) - Moses was chosen by God to become a priest to share the gospel to all nations. It was already prophesied that through Moses that the Gentiles and all people will be saved. It was also written in Isaiah 42:1 (“Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.”) - In other words, through the Messiah and through the gospel of Christ’s blood, the Gentiles will be saved. That is why Paul was saying that he wasn’t proclaiming anything else but the gospel and the prophecies that were spoken in the Bible. But Paul didn’t stop there but spoke more in detail. 

2) The core content of the Pentateuch

Paul was testifying that he was simply only proclaiming what the prophets and Moses spoke about in verse 23. All of the content spoken by the prophets and Moses were regarding the prophecies that the Messiah would come and die, and resurrect and save all people. As you know, the Pentateuch, which are the first five books of the Bible, which Moses wrote. The main content of those five books spoke about the coming of and the death of the Messiah. In other words, those books wrote about the core of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was prophesied that the Messiah will come and die for the sins of His people and resurrect. But the Jews couldn’t accept the message that Jesus Christ was their Messiah who died and resurrected. This was because the Jews didn’t want their Messiah to die. The Messiah that they wanted was the Messiah that would bring Israel to conquer all land and the world. Not only that but the land of Israel would reign over all Their “Messiah” would perform these great works and miracles throughout Israel and become the greatest king just like Moses who performed great miracles. But, Paul was testifying that this is not the True messiah. If you look in the Bible, the Messiah would come to die. 

The core of the book of exodus was the blood of the lamb, the blood sacrifice. The blood sacrifice would foreshadow the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, where He would shed His blood. Exodus 12:12 (“For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. ”) - This was what God was speaking about. When the blood sacrifice was put on the door post, judgment would not come to that household but those who didn’t post the blood sacrifice, God’s judgment came upon them. When God spoke that He would go against “all the gods of Egypt”, this is referring to the work of Satan. God was saying that He will completely destroy Satan. This shows that God is the God of all things. The Messiah that was prophesied in the Bible was not a Messiah that would conquer all the world like what the Jews wanted but this Messiah would come to destroy the power of Satan who is taking hold of mankind. God showed this by fulfilling the work of the blood sacrifice in the book of Exodus during the Passover. 

Exodus 13:15 (“And it came to pass, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all males that open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.”) - All of the firstborn sons of Egypt will be killed, not only of man but of all animals. What does this mean by the firstborn? It would be the one who will inherit all things of that household. God proclaimed that He was going to kill the firstborn. This means that God will destroy not only kill the firstborn but the entire household and generation of that family line. This also means that God will also destroy the firstborns of Satan, the remnants of Satan. But, then God proclaimed that He will redeem the firstborn of all of His sons. Through the blood sacrifice and the Passover, He will restore and redeem the line of the people of the covenant. This shows that everyone will be forgiven of their sins. This is absolutely astounding. Through the Passover, we can already see the foreshadow of the work of Christ as the True Priest. 

Not only that but in Exodus 12:49, 51 (“One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you. 51 And it came to pass, on that very same day, that the Lord brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their armies.”) - Through the blood sacrifice, not only will it save the Jews but also the Gentiles. In other words, through the passover and blood sacrifice, not only were the Jews saved when they posted the blood of the sacrifice on their door post but also the Gentiles were saved. On that day, anyone who posted blood of the sacrifice on their door post were saved. Exodus 12:51 - This means anyone who posted the blood of the sacrifice on their door post they headed towards the land of Canaan. This means that anybody who believed in the blood of Jesus Christ were headed towards heaven and salvation. This means that that they were saved and received the status as a child of God. This completed the three roles of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. This was what Paul held onto this. Paul was sharing the meaning of the Passover and the blood sacrifice. This shows that Jesus Christ, the Messiah, had to die on the cross. Not only that but He had to bring completion by fulfilling this on the cross and resurrecting. And, Paul was saying to them that if they believed in this, then they will also be saved. Paul was holding onto this covenant. The moment Paul held onto this covenant, he was completely changed. Paul who was persecuting Christians, he completely changed and his old frames were completely broken down. 

3. Paul's Complete Change

1) The old frame

What was the reason why the Jews failed? It was because they held onto the wrong messiah. They held onto and kept holding onto the wrong messiah. We need to hold onto something important there. If we are not able to hold onto the covenant correctly, then we will go into the direction of destruction and failure. On Friday, we listened to the World Youth Conference message. We need to examine where we are right now as well as what are you going to start doing now? What you start right now will determine your future. Who is the master over your life? Who is the spiritual master over your life? It is correct if God is the master over your life. But, if the master of your life is still Satan and you are still living as a slave to satan, then you are in grave danger. No matter how much we have succeeded in life, if Satan is still the master of your life, then you have no choice but to live as a slave to Satan for the rest of your life. You succeed and gain all of this Ph.Ds but you will still live as a slave of satan and live a life of suffering for the rest of your life. Whenever I think of this, I think about Doctor Suh who used to attend our church. He received two Ph.Ds and was an extremely intelligent individual, and he worked with NASA. From a young age, he was imprinted with spiritual problems and problems by Satan, and one day, a severe spiritual problem came to him later in his life. He lost his job and he started taking a whole bunch of medications to normalize his life. The problem is not having success in this world but it is so important to realize that we are children of God first. If you are a child of God but if Christ is not the master of your life then that will cause problems in you life. 

We need to come out of the hands of Satan. And, we were able to see that Paul was able to come out of the hands of Satan. Paul was able co come out when he met Jesus Christ. Not only did he come out but he made an absolute resolution before Jesus Christ. In other words, the moment he became a child of God, he held onto the resolution to stand as an evangelist. At that moment, God raised Paul up as the greatest evangelist of all time. 

That is why Paul confessed in 1 Timothy 1:15 (“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”) - Paul was confessing the tremendous grace of God. Paul who was the greatest sinner of all sinners, he was so grateful for his salvation that he wondered what he had done to deserve God’s grace. All Paul held onto was to live for only Christ alone. Because he held onto that resolution, his life completely changed. This may not make sense for other people but his life completely changed when he went all in the gospel. His frame was completely changed as well. 

2) The new frame

We are holding onto the new frame for the New Year. But when we go into the new frame and go all in Christ, then all things will change. When we are able to change in Christ, then true change will come to us, personally. 

2 Corinthians 5:17 (“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”) - We are a new creation. We are no longer a slave to Satan but we are children of God who have authority over Satan. We have completely changed. Not only that but when we enter into Christ, then our family line will change. 

In Acts 16:33-34 (“And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.”) - This was when the prisoner ward received the gospel through Paul. After he received the gospel, the prison ward invited Paul to his house, and his entire family was saved. Not only was the prison ward saved but his entire family was saved and changed. May this same blessing come upon your family. May the complete Christ come upon your family and restore oneness. 

Not only that, wherever children of God go, your fields will be completely changed. Acts 8:7-8 (“For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city.”) - This was the content of the journey of Deacon Philip. Through one deacon, the entire region of Samaria was changed. I am talking about deacon Philipp here but wherever we go as children of God, the same works will take place. Wherever we go as children of God, God will work. This is because we have this tremendous authority and power as children of God. We already possess this. 

Not only that but we can bring change upon a nation. 1 Samuel 7:13 (“So the Philistines were subdued, and they did not come anymore into the territory of Israel. And the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.”) - Because of Samuel, God blocked the Philistines. This was because Samuel entrusted all things to God that God allowed the entire army of Philistines to be blocked. Because of us, the entire nation of America and Korea will be saved. Not only that but through one person of the covenant, we can change the entire world. 

Acts 27:24 (“Saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ ”) - This was the message that God gave to Paul. Through Paul, not only was one nation saved but the entire land of Macedonia, Rome, and the entire world was changed. We are talking about one person. How was this possible? This was because within Paul, the almighty God, the Creator was inside of him. If the almighty God is with you then He can make all things possible. Truly believe in this. Right now, we should not be bound by our own personal, family problems, or our situations in our lives. The almighty God, the Creator is with you then a problem is no longer a problem for us at all. If we hold onto these five changes, then these five changes will take place within our lives. What is important is that within those people, same the Holy Spirit that was with them is also within us. May you open your mouth wide and pray. Gain strength and pray. We are currently in the midst of doing the 40-day prayer challenge, may you gain great answers during this time.

<Conclusion>

Hold onto again of Jeremiah 33:2-3 (“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: 3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ ”) - May you open your mouth wide and call out to God. Pray to God that through you, may your family, nation, and the world change. We discussed this in the introduction, entrust everything to God, our master. May we focus our direction towards our Master then God will change you. May you call upon God.
