서론

오늘부터 애굽에 내렸던 열가지 재앙에 대해 시리즈로 설교를 하려고 한다. 지난 시간에는 열가지 재앙 이전에 하나님께서 먼저 지팡이로 뱀을 만들어 애굽 술사들이 만들어낸 뱀을 잡아먹게 하는 내용에 대해 들었다. 그 사건은 다가올 열가지 재앙의 서론으로 하나님께서 허락하신 기적이었다. 뱀을 상징하는 바로는 반드시 하나님의 능력의 지팡이에서 멸망을 당하게 될것이다 – 라고 먼저 서론적으로 하나님께서 보여주신것이다. 오늘 본문 내용부터 본격적으로 하나님의 심판 내용이 들어간다. 우리가 애굽의 열가지 재앙 보기전에 중요하게 보아야 할것이 있다. 애굽의 신화를 먼저 알고 가야겠다. 애굽의 신화를 모르고 열가지 재앙을 보면 단순히 하나님이 일으키신 사건으로 볼수밖에 없다. 이 열가지 재앙은 애굽에 있는 신들에 대한 심판과 재판임을 알수가 있다. 하나님께서 애굽에 있던 신들위에 열가지 재앙을 내리신것에는 아주 깊은 뜻이 있다. 전세계 종교적으로나 기독교인들 에게 마저 깊은 영향을 끼치게 된것을 볼수가 있다. 자유주의 신학자들은 애굽의 신화를 근거로 창세기 신화설을 주장하기도 한다. 

애굽 신화는 한번에 만들어진것이 아니라 수 세기를 거쳐서 애굽 네가지 지역에서 점차적으로 발달 되었다. 그래서 AD 1세기에 로마의 역사가 플루타르크 가 이것을 정리해서 편집했다. 우리가 이 신화전체 내용을 다 알수는 없지만 가장 중요한 핵심 부분만은 알고 넘어가야겠다. 

1. 하나님의 섭리 God's Providence

(1) 애굽의 신화 Egyptian Mythology

출 Exodus 7:14

애굽 신화에 의하면 태초에 대양의 신이라는 ‘눈’ (Nun) 이 있었다. 이 눈이라는 신이 ‘카오스’ (Chaos) 혼돈된 물에서 작은 언덕을 일으켰다고 되어있다. 그 언덕을 일으키고 ‘아툼’ (Atum) 이라는 태양신을 낳게 된다. 나중에 이 태양신은 애굽의 최고의 신이 된다. 이 태양신은 세가지의 이름을 가지고있는데 그 이름이 아침에는 ‘케프리’ (Khepri), 낮에는 ‘라’ (Ra), 저녁은 ‘아툼’ (Atum) 이라고 한다. 애굽이 섬기는 태양신은 바로 그들의 창조자고 알파와 오메가이며 온 세상 주관하는 신이 된다. 이 태양신이 입김을 불어서 두 자녀를 낳게 되는데 공기 라는 신 ‘슈’ 와 습기 라는 신의 ‘테푸누트’ 를 만들게된다. 이 두 신이 다시 ‘게브’ 이라는 땅의 신과 ‘누트’ 라는 하늘의 여신을 낳게된다. 이 누트는 다시 네명의 남매신을 낳게된다. 그 이름이 첫째가 오시리스 둘째는 이시스 셋째는 세트 넷째는 네프티스. 여기서 오시리스라는 아들과 이시스 라는 딸이 결혼하고 세트하고 네프티스가 결혼한다. 그런데 여기서 사건이 생긴다. 오시리스의 동생이 되는 세트가 자기 형수인 잇시스를 너무 사랑하게 된다. 그래서 세트가 형 오시리스를 죽일 계획을 세우고 잔치를 연다. 세트는 애굽 사람들이 가장 좋아하는 고목으로 아름다운 관을 만든다. 오시리스가 잔치의 상품인 관을 받게 된다. 그렇게 오시리스가 관속으로 들어가게 된다. 그가 관으로 들어가자마자 세트가 매복 시켰던 부하들 시켜 관을 봉쇄한채 나일강에 띄워보낸다. 오시리스가 들은 관은 지중해로 흘러가 비블로스 해안을 거쳐 레바논 백향목 있는데 가서 박히게 된다. 아내 이시스가 그 사실 알게된다. 자기 남편 찾기 위해 고생끝에 관을 찾아 다시 애굽으로 가게된다. 그 사실을 알게 된 세트가 오시리스가 든 관을 14조각을 내어 죽여버리고 그 시체를 14군데 애굽 전역에 뿌려버린다. 이시리스는 흩어진 조각을  다 찾아 붙여서 헝겊으로 감싸 미라를 만든다. 미이라 모습을 갖추고 나니 오시리스가 부활하게 된다. 그래서 다시 살게 되는데 그 이후에 그 둘이 낳은 아들의 이름이 호루스다. 부활한 오시리스는 지하세계 사후세계의 왕이 되게된다. 한편 아들 호루스는 아버지의 원수를 갚기 위해 자라서 세트와 전쟁을 한다. 그 전쟁에서 호루스가 이기게 된다 그 이후로 부터는 오시리스 믿기만 하면 죽은뒤 반드시 부활하고 영생을 얻는다는 내용이다. 애굽에서 바로는 독특한 위치에 있다. 애굽 사람들은 바로왕을 창조의 신인 라 가 이 땅을 통치 할수 있도록 왕권을 부여한 존재로 알고있다. 그래서 애굽 사람들은 바로를 신들의 세계에 속한 살아있는 신 으로 본다. 그런데 문제는 바로 자신도 자기는 신 이라 믿고 있다는 사실이다. 그러니까 지상에서 신들의 대표로 와있는것이다 믿는것이다. 와서 백성과 신들의 중재자 역할 한다 여긴것이다. 모든 신들 제사장으로 역할 감당하는것이다. 바로를 어떻게 생각하고 있냐면, 정확히는 사람 몸을 입은 신으로 생각한다. 바로 자신도 자기는 살아있는 신이라 생각하고 산다는 말이다. 14절 말씀에 바로의 마음이 완강해 이스라엘 백성들 보내기를 거절한 이유도 그것이다. 온 천지를 창조한 라 신의 아들로 모든 힘을 부여받은 존재인데 여호와 라는 신에 굴복 할 이유가 없다 느낀것이다. 창 3에 너희가 이것을 먹으면 눈이 밝아져 하나님 같이 된다 하는 말처럼 정말 스스로 하나님으로 여기며 사는것이다. 유람선 같은것을 타면 거의 모든 배에 호루스의 눈 같이 생긴 일루미나티 전시안 상징이 새겨져있다. 옛날에 싸이라는 가수가 서울 시청에서 공연할때도 자기 CD 에 호루스 눈 같은것 그려놓고 관중들이 다 들게 했다. 그게 뭔가. 바로 나는 뉴에이지 멤버라 하는 말이다. 이것이 지금 우리가 잘 알듯이 1달러 빌에 그려진 눈과 같은것이다. 이것이 바로 ‘섭리의 눈’ 이라고 한다. 하늘의 신이 이 땅에 모든 인류 감시하고 감독한다 이런 의미다. 바로 호루스가 살아서 지금도 너희를 감시하고 있다 이 의미다. 우리는 이게 말도 안되는 신화라고 생각 할수 있지만 우리가 창세기와 성경 믿듯이 당시에 그렇게 믿고 살았다. 이런 배경에서 이루어진것이 첫번째 재앙이다. 

(2) 하나님의 명령 God's Command

출 Exodus 7:15-16

15절 말씀 보면, “아침에 너는 바로에게로 가라 보라 그가 물 있는 곳으로 나오리니 너는 나일 강 가에 서서 그를 맞으며 그 뱀 되었던 지팡이를 손에 잡고”. 여기서 중요한것이, 아침 이라는 단어에 원어를 보면 the 가 붙었다. 그냥 아침이 아니고 아무 아침이 아니고 특정한 날의 아침인것이다. 무슨 날 인가. 바로가 자기 신께 제사 드리러 가는 날의 아침 이라는 말이다. 애굽이 섬기는 신이 80명 정도 된다. 나일강도 여러 신이 있다. 쿤 이라는 나일강 수호신이 있고 하피 라는 신이 있고 오시리스 라는 신을 섬긴다. 이 신화에서는 나일강물 자체가 오시리스의 땀이라 여긴다. 홍수가 올때는 오시리스의 눈물이라 여긴다. 홍수가 심할때는 오시리스가 노했다 해서 가서 제사를 드리기도 했다. 이런 나일강에 제사 드리러 간 날에 하나님은 모세를 보내신것이다. 그리고 16절에, “그에게 이르기를 히브리 사람의 하나님 여호와께서 나를 왕에게 보내어 이르시되 내 백성을 보내라” 라고 말하라고 하신다. 히브리 사람의 왕 임을 알린것이다. 히브리 라는것은 강건너 온 사람 이라는 의미다. 아브라함이 유브라데 강을 건너 왔기 때문에 강건너 부름 받은 아브라함의 후손 이라는 의미가 내포 되어있었다. 그렇게 하나님은 아브라함에 언약 주셨다. 너는 복의 근원 될찌라 했다. 횃불 언약도 주셨다. 히브리 사람의 하나님 이라 하신 뜻은 언약의 하나님께서 하신 말이다 라는 의미다. 여기서 이방인인 애굽 사람이 섬기는 신과 여호와 하나님이 어떤 차이가 있는가 검토 해봐야한다. 바로가 섬기는 애굽신은, 그의 진노 풀기 위해 가서 제사를 드려야 하는 상황이고 여호와 하나님은 그의 백성을 해방시키고 구원 하는 하나님 인것이다. 모든 종교인들, 샤머니즘 믿는 사람들도 주로 귀신의 화, 노를 잠재우기 위해 제사 지낸다. 우리가 믿는 그리스도 하나님은 우리 문제 해결하시고 구원 하시는 하나님 되신다. 뿐만 아니라 그들이 광야에서 나를 섬길것이라 하신다. 나일강가에서 풍요로운 삶 살고 있는 바로 왕 향해 그들이 광야에서 나를 섬길것이라 하는 말씀이다. 광야는 거친땅이고 황무지이다. 거기서 나에게 예배 드릴것이다 이야기 하시는것이다. 너희 인간의 참 행복이라는 것은 나일감, 풍요에 있는게 아니라 하나님 만나는것에 있다 이 말이다. 참 행복 이라는 것은 눈에 보이는것, 마시는것 에서 오는게 아니라 하나님 안에 거할때 오는것이다. 그 안에 모든것이 다 들어 있기 때문에, 하나님만 만나면, 교제하면 되는것이다. 

2. 첫번째 재앙 The First Plague

(1) 나일강의 심판 Judgment of the Nile

출 Exodus 7:17-21

17-18절 말씀 보면, 이제 지팡이 통해 나일강 치라 나온다. 그러면 나일강이 피로 변한다 했다. 여기서 중요한것은, 피로 변한다는 말이 그 색깔만 물들인다는 뜻이 아니다. 진짜 피같이 나일강 전체가 바뀐다는 말이다. 그러면 거기에 있는 모든것이 죽게 되는것이다. 강물에서 악취가 나게 된다는 말이다. 악취가 나는 이유는 강물이 썩고 그 안에 생물이 죽어 나는것이다. 첫번째 재앙 통해 그들이 그동안 섬겼던 바로의 왕이라는 오시리스, 풍요의 신 쿰, 하피, 전부 죽었다는 의미다. 바로 앞에서 너희가 섬긴 그 신이 얼마나 헛된것인가 보여주시는것이다. 19절 보면, “여호와께서 또 모세에게 이르시되 아론에게 명령하기를 네 지팡이를 잡고 네 팔을 애굽의 물들과 강들과 운하와 못과 모든 호수 위에 내밀라 하라 그것들이 피가 되리니 애굽 온 땅과 나무 그릇과 돌 그릇 안에 모두 피가 있으리라” 놀라운 심판의 결과다. 나일강만 심판 받은것이 아니다. 애굽땅에 모든 운하, 호수까지 완전히 피로 변한것이다. 이것은 무엇을 상징하는가. 물이 있는 곳 마다 나일강 신을 섬기는 우상이 있었다는 말이다. 우상이 전지역 장악 했다는 것이다. 나무그릇과 돌그릇에도 피가 있을것이다 했다. 개인들이 사는 가정에 까지도 우상숭배 하는 문화가 있었다는 것을 나타낸다. 그것을 쉽게 이해 할수 있는것이, 옛날에 한국 사람들 보면 그릇에 물 떠놓고 집안에서 빌었다. 장독대도 부엌에 가져다 놓고 물 길러서 빌었다. 정말 각 개인, 가정마다 사단의 망대가 단단히 사로잡고 있는 상태였다. 그런 모든것을 심판 하신것이다. 이렇게 명령하고 난뒤 실제로 이루어졌다 라고 21절에 나온다. 모세와 아론에게 지팡이로 치면 이런 이런 일이 일어날거야 하고 명령 하시고 그 다음 말씀에 간단하게 실제로 그대로 이루어졌다 기록한다. 이것이 성경이 말하는 핵심이다. 말씀 하신것은 반드시 이루어진다. 하나님 말씀하신것은 다시 말 할 필요도 없이 반드시 성취되는것이다. 여러분들이 말씀을 언약으로 붙잡고 믿으면 반드시 그대로 성취된다. 지금도 동일한 역사 일어난다. 우리가 응답 받는 비밀이 바로 여기 있는것이다. 승리하시라. 

(2) 마귀의 본성 The Nature of the Devil

출 Exodus 7:22-23, 요 John 10:10, 8:44

22절, “애굽 요술사들도 자기들의 요술로 그와 같이 행하므로 바로의 마음이 완악하여 그들의 말을 듣지 아니하니 여호와의 말씀과 같더라”. 바로가 술사들 불러 시키니 똑같이 그 기적을 행한것이다. 여기서 두가지 문제가 생기게 된다. 첫째는, 어떤 물을 바꿔내느냐 이 말이다. 나일강은 이미 피로 변했고, 호수도 변하고 했는데 어떤 물을 가지고 술사들이 바꿨느냐 하는 질문이다. 많은 성경학자들이 이것에 대해 고민을 많이 했다. 그런데 나온 주장중 하나가 바로가 제사를 드리러 가서 마실 물을 따로 두었지 않았을까 하는 것이다. 그런데 어디서 온 물인지는 모르지만 성경에 분명히 거기에 물이 있었고 똑같이 술사들이 기적을 행했다 나와있다. 그럼 그 물은 왜 안바뀌었는가. 하나님께서 그 물이 바뀌지 않도록 허락 해 주셨다 이 말이다. 그러면 그 술사들이 그 물을 어떻게 피로 바꾸었나. 말씀 보면 그 물도 분명 피로 변했다 기록되어있다. 마귀도 분명히 술수를 쓰는 존재다. 제가 무당을 만난적이 있는데 작두를 타기 전에 발에 베일까봐 올라가지 못했다고 한다. 그 옆에 선배 무당이 믿음을 가져라, 귀신이 도와줄것이다 계속 믿음을 줬다고 한다. 나중에 한창 굿 하는중에 믿음이 생겨 올라가니 진짜 베이지 않았다고한다. 우리도 하나님 믿음속에 여러가지 일 할수 있듯이 무당들도 흑암의 존재가 실제 하는것을 믿고 의지하니 기적이 일어난것이다. 23절에 중요한 내용 나온다, “바로가 돌이켜 궁으로 들어가고 그 일에 관심을 가지지도 아니하였고” 놀라운 이야기다. 마귀, 흑암에 잡힌 자의 본성을 이야기한다. 마귀의 본성이 뭔가. 요10:10, “도둑이 오는 것은 도둑질하고 죽이고 멸망시키려는 것뿐이요”. 사단의 본성은 자기 형제, 자식, 부모도 모두 버리는 것이다. 형제도 죽이고, 자식도 죽이고, 부모도 죽이고 멸망하게 하는것이 사단의 본성이다. 백성같은건 상관 없는것이다. 요 8:44 말씀대로 너희 아비 마귀의 욕심대로 행하고 살면서 나만 괜찮으면 돼 라고 하면서 살면서 자기 중심, 자기 욕망, 욕심중심대로 사는것이다. 신화내용도 그 중심으로 이루어진다. 

3. 하나님의 은혜 God's Grace

(1) 하나님의 긍휼 God's Mercy

출 Exodus 7:24-25

24절 말씀보겠다. “애굽 사람들은 나일 강 물을 마실 수 없으므로 나일 강 가를 두루 파서 마실 물을 구하였더라” 마실 물이 없으니 우물을 파서 먹을수 있는 물을 찾은것이다. 그러면 하나님께서 왜 그 물들을 놔두셨나. 그 물 조차도 피로 바꾸실수 있었다. 이게 바로 하나님의 긍휼이다. 생명을 유지 할수 있게 그 물은 그냥 두셨다. 심판 가운데서도 계속해서 하나님은 구원받을 기회 주신다. 25절, “여호와께서 나일 강을 치신 후 이레가 지나니라” 재앙의 기간을 하나님께서 정하신것이다. 여기에도 하나님의 은혜와 계획 들어있다. 이것이 영원히 그리 되었다면 그 사람들 모두 살수 없었을것이다. 여기에도 일주일 이라는 기간을 주셨다. 바로나 술사들도 얼마나 불편 했겠는가. 술사들에게 아무래도 그 강도 다시 원래대로 돌려놔라 했을것이다. 그렇게 7일동안 그들의 무능력을 직접 느끼게 하신것이다. 하나님 은혜 없이는 그 누구도 살아갈 수 없음을 보이신것이다. 심판 가운데서도 하나님은 끝까지 긍휼 주시며 기다리신다. 그러면 우린 이 사탄문화를 어떻게 치유해야 하나. 

(2) 사단문화의 치유 Healing of Satanic culture

보좌의 망대(언약): 창3:15, 12:1-3, 출3:18

사단의 망대 무너뜨리기 위해 보좌의 망대 붙잡아야겠다. 바로 그것이 하나님이 주시는 언약이다. 모든 언약의 시작은 창3:15 여자의 후손 언약에서 시작된다. 그리고 창세기 12장에 복의 근원 되는 축복안에 우리 부르셨다. 하나님 자녀 되는 축복 누리는것이다. 피제사 언약 통해 우리가 새롭게 시작하는것이다. 

파수꾼의 방법(그리스도): 요19:30, 사7:14, 행1:8

The Watchman's Way (Christ): John 19:30, Isaiah 7:14, Acts 1:8

그렇다면 파수꾼의 방법은 무엇인가? 요한복음 19:30, 십자가에서 다 이루신 그리스도 붙잡는것이다. 그리스도 붙잡을때 모든것 다 끝나는것이다. 이사야서 7:14, 성육신 하신 그리스도 붙잡는 순간 모든것이 끝나는것이다. 사도행전 1:8의 권능을 받으며 시작 하는것이다.  

300% (집중): 나, 교회, 현장

300% Concentration: Me, the Church, and the Field

지난시간에 말씀 드렸듯 우리는 300% 준비 해야겠다. 새출발 하고 나의 업, 교회, 현장에서 300%로 시작하자 이것이다. 그렇게 사단문화 치유하자 이 말이다. 사단의 붙잡힌 자 살릴수 있는 유일한 길이 이것이다. 

결론 Conclusion

마 Matthew 11:28

마 11:28, 오늘 메시지의 결론이다, “수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라.” 모든것 다 내려놓고 주님 앞에 나오시라. 주님께서 쉬게 해 주시고 친히 모든 문제 해결 해 주실것이다. 그의 앞에 가기만 하면 된다. 이 응답 받는 여러분 되시기를 주의 이름으로 축원한다.

14 So the Lord said to Moses: “Pharaoh’s heart is hard; he refuses to let the people go. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning, when he goes out to the water, and you shall stand by the river’s bank to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a serpent you shall take in your hand. 16 And you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness”; but indeed, until now you would not hear! 17 Thus says the Lord: “By this you shall know that I am the Lord. Behold, I will strike the waters which are in the river with the rod that is in my hand, and they shall be turned to blood. 18 And the fish that are in the river shall die, the river shall stink, and the Egyptians will loathe to drink the water of the river.” ’ ” 19 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in buckets of wood and pitchers of stone.’ ” 20 And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the Lord commanded. So he lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants. And all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. 21 The fish that were in the river died, the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink the water of the river. So there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. 22 Then the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments; and Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the Lord had said. 23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house. Neither was his heart moved by this. 24 So all the Egyptians dug all around the river for water to drink, because they could not drink the water of the river. 25 And seven days passed after the Lord had struck the river.

Introduction

Starting today, we will speak about the 10 plagues that occurred in Egypt. Last week, we spoke about how God changed the rod into a serpent and Aaron’s rod consumed all of the magicians’ serpents. This happened before the 10 plagues. This was a miracle that God allowed. The Pharaoh who saw the rod of Aaron consumed all of the magicians’ serpents was to foreshadow that Pharaoh will fall and be destroyed in the end. We can see the start of God’s judgement on Pharaoh and Egypt. What is most important is that we must see the judgment that came upon Egypt. If we don’t see the background of Egypt first, then we may see all of this as just mere events. The 10 plagues that occurred in Egypt was God’s judgment that came upon the 10 idols in Egypt. We can see God placed His judgment on Egypt and its idols for a reason, there were deep reasons behind all of this. The nation’s religion and even people who believed in God, placed a great meaning behind God’s judgment in Egypt. 

1. God's Providence

(1) Egyptian Mythology

Because of Egypt’s ideology, they declared that the book of Genesis was all mythology as well. We need to see the main aspects of Egyptian mythology. In Egyptian mythology, everything began with the ocean god, Nun. There was also the Sun god, Atum and it had three cycles of this Sun god. The three cycles were Ra, Atum, and Re-Atum. Also, they claimed that the Sun god was the beginning and the end. And Atum had two sons, Shu and Tefnut. Shu was the god of the air and Tefnut was the goddess of moisture. There was Geb, the earth god and Nut, the sky goddess. And, Geb and Nut had children, and their children were Osiris and Isis. Osiris was the god of the underworld and Isis was his sister, the goddess of fertility. Isis was also the wife of Osiris and Seth was the brother of Osiris. Seth was the god of the desert and Seth grew jealous of his brother, Osiris. So Seth invited Osiris to a party and said to everyone at the party that whoever can enter this chest, coffin will win a prize. So Osiris entered into the coffin but the moment he entered, Seth locked the coffin and threw it into the Nile River. Isis found that Osiris was thrown into the river and she tried her best to find her husband once again. She ends up finding the coffin and brings it back to Egypt. Seth heard that Isis found the coffin and was bringing it back to Egypt so Seth stabbed Osiris and cut up his body, and spread his body all over Egypt. But Isis gathered all of the body parts of Osiris and made a mummy out of Osiris. But once Osiris became a mummy, he resurrected and came back to life. Isis and Osiris gave birth and they had a son named Horus. Osiris later became the king of the underworld. Later on, Horus wanted to avenge his father so he fought a battle with Seth and Horus won the battle. Egyptians truly believed that Osiris resurrected and had great power. As we all know, the pharaoh had great power in Egypt. They believed that Ra, the Sun god, gave Pharaoh great power so Egyptians saw Pharaoh as god. The problem was that pharaoh believed that he was god as well. Pharaoh thought that they were meditators between god and man. Egyptians thought that pharaoh were gods in human flesh. Even pharaoh also believed that they were living gods among men. 

Verse 14 - This was the reason why pharaoh refused to let Israelites go and why his heart was hardened. Pharaoh believed that he was the son of the Sun god, Ra, and was offended that the Israelites were challenging him who was a god. Just like in Genesis 3, pharaohs truly believed that they were like god. What is the eye of Horus? It is the famous eye in Egyptian mythology. When people show the eye of Horus, they are showing their allegiance to the New Age movement. We also see the eye of Horus on the dollar bills. They say that the eye of Horus sees all things and is watching everyone. We who hear this, we think all of this is nonsense but there are people who truly believe in this. 

(2) God's Command

Verses 15-16 - This was the first plague and disaster that came upon Egypt. It speaks about morning time and God was telling Moses to go in the morning. Why in the morning? That day and time was the time when the pharaoh was going to give sacrifice to his gods. In Egypt, they worshiped about 80 idols. Also, they worshiped various Nile River gods. The Egyptians believed that the Nile River was the tears and blood of Osiris. God told Moses to go to pharaoh in the morning because God knew that they were going to go worship their gods. They worshiped many gods but God was proclaiming that He was the One and Only God of Hebrews. Hebrews means people who crossed the river. This means that when Abraham crossed the river, Abraham's descendants were the Hebrews. We know that God gave Abraham many blessings and covenants. God was proclaiming that He was the God of the covenant before pharaoh. Pharaoh worshiped different gods, he worshiped them so that he could calm the fury and wrath of his gods. But God the Hebrews and the God of the covenant, God was the God of Salvation. People who go to shamans, they visit shamans to appease evil spirits and shamans perform worship services to appease evil spirits. God was trying to tell them that true happiness comes from worshiping God alone. True happiness does not come from food and water from the Nile River but it comes from God alone. 

2. The First Plague

(1)  Judgment of the Nile

Verses 17-21 - God commands Moses to strike the waters with his rod and the river will turn into blood. The fact that the Nile River will turn into blood doesn’t just mean that the river will turn red color but it really turned into blood. And, all living things inside the river will perish and it will be full of rottenness in the river. If blood rots, then it will smell. This means that the gods of the Nile River that the Egyptian god, God will completely abolish all of the gods of the Nile River. God was showing that all of their Egyptian gods were all powerless and nothing. It wasn’t just like the Nile River that turned into blood but all of the water sources in Egypt all turned into blood. This shows that wherever there is water in Egypt, they were all contaminated with the false gods of Egypt. This shows that idolatry was completely seized in Egypt. God was showing His great power and who He really was. And, God was also showing the great influence of gods in Egypt. Back in the days, Korea also worshiped gods where they believed came from the water in the well and they would place bowls of this well water all over their house, and worship it. God was saying that all of this will happen and it happened exactly as He prophesied it will. After God told Moses and Aaron what will happen, it happened exactly as God told Moses and Aaron as it will. This means that the word of God will be fulfilled no matter what. There is no need to repeat God’s words because it will happen exactly as it was spoken. That is why when God gives you His word and you believe in it, then it will be fulfilled no matter what. This is the mystery of how you will receive answers. 

(2) The Nature of the Devil

Verse 22 - Pharaoh bought his magicians before Moses and Aaron, and they were able to perform the same miracles that they performed as well. But there was a problem with this. The Nile River and all of the water in Egypt turned into blood but what water will the magicians use to turn into blood? The conclusion within this, in order to give sacrifice to his Egyptian gods, he placed water there and water for him to drink. The Bible doesn’t exactly say this happened but there was water next to pharaoh and his magicians that was still water. Why didn’t God allow that water to turn into blood? This was allowed by God for a reason. How did the magicians turn this water into blood? But if you look in the Bible, the magicians turned water into blood. I believe that Satan possesses the power to copy miracles and to show the misleading power of God. As you know there are shamans in this world and shamans are able to perform miracles such as walking and jumping on top of swords. When I see and hear about these “miracles”, I realize that Satan works in various ways. 

Verse 23 - This is astounding. Those who are bound by Satan, this is your nature. What is the nature of Satan? 

It is seen in John 10:10, 8:44 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” - What is the nature of Satan? Satan’s goal is to destroy your family and make your family fall into destruction. So an entire nation was no problem for Satan. As long as you are okay, that is fine. That is Satan’s ideology that Satan makes man have. Satan makes man focus on only themselves and become self-centered. 

3. God's Grace

(1) God's Mercy

Verse 24 - They had no water to drink so they dug the ground to find water to drink. Why did God allow this? God changed the Nile River to blood but God allowed people to find water as long as they dug the ground. This shows God’s mercy and grace. This was God giving them a chance to experience His grace and mercy. 

Verse 25 - There was a time span on how long God’s judgment lasted and how long the Nile River stayed as blood. If the Nile River changed into blood permanently then all people would perish so God only allowed this to last for seven days. So for seven days, the Egyptians couldn’t do anything about the Nile River being contaminated with blood and God was showing how powerless the Egyptians were. Without God, you cannot do anything. This was what God was trying to show the Egyptians. Even in the midst of His judgment, God poured His mercy and grace, and waited patiently for them. 

(2) Healing of Satanic culture

The Tower of the Throne (Covenant): Genesis 3:15*, 12:1-3*, Exodus 3:18* - In order to break down the culture of Satan is to raise up the bartizan of the heavenly throne. We must hold onto God’s covenant. God’s covenant all started with Genesis 3:15. We become a source of blessings, Genesis 12:1-3. We have a new beginning with the covenant of Exodus 3:18. 

The Watchman's Way (Christ): John 19:30*, Isaiah 7:14*, Acts 1:18* - If we hold onto Jesus Christ, everything is finished. The moment we hold onto Christ, everything is finished, Isaiah 7:14.

300% Concentration: Me, the Church, and the Field - We need a new start. In our fields, church, and occupation, we need to have 300%. We need to have healing in our fields. This is what we must do as evangelists. 

Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the Lord had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ ”

Exodus 3:18 “Then they will heed your voice; and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ ” 

John 19:30 “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, 'It is finished!' And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”

Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

Acts 1:18 “Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.” -

Conclusion

Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” - Lay everything down before God and entrust all things to Him. Then, God will give you rest and answer all of your problems. May you receive answers in the name of Jesus Christ.
