더 좋은 언약되신 그리스도(히7:22-25)

서론

지난 1부 메세지에서 간증이 저에게 느낌이 컸다. 류목사님의 친척 가운데에서 항상 싸움을 하는 가정이 있었다고 한다. 누가 있어도 붙었다 하면 싸웠다고 한다. 그것을 보면서 느꼈다고 한다. 틀림없이 이것은 무언가 뒤집어 씌였구나 했다고 한다. 왜냐하면 그 사람들이 신앙생활은 그저 그렇게 했다. 교회도 다니다 안다니다 했다. 그런데 이상하게도 그 집은 후대까지 결국은 다 망하는 것을 보았다고 했다. 저는 그것을 보면서 집안에서 싸움을 하는 것도 그냥 이루어지는 것이 아니라 뭔가 역사하는 힘이 있구나 하는 것을 생각해보았다. 부부 간에도 서로 사랑해야할텐데 만나기만하면 싸우는 사람들이 있다. 형제 간에도 만나기만 하면 싸우는 형제가 있다. 부모와 자식 간에도 말만 하면 싸우는 사람들이 있다. 이것은 분명히 흑암의 역사이다. 무당들의 특징이 있다. 굉장히 율법적이다. 잘했다 잘못했다는 분명히해서 남 잘못을 얼마나 잘 찾아내는지 모른다. 흑암이 역사하면 상대방을 공격할 때도 아주 상처주는 얘기만 골라서 한다. 그것은 제정신으로 하는 것이 아니라 뭔가 이상한 영이 도와주기 때문에 나오는 것이다. 가정을 파괴 시키고 사람 관계를 파괴시키려는 흑암의 역사이다. 그런 사람들은 사는 것이 항상 불평 원망이 가득하다. 그러니까 항상 걸리기만 하면 싸우는 것이다. 성경 보게되면 세가지 사람의 종류가 나온다. 첫째는 이스라엘 백성들이 광야에 있을 때 처럼 남을 원망, 불평하고 사람들을 선동해서 원망, 불평하게 만드는 주도자들이 있다. 열 정탐꾼 처럼 선동을 해서 온 백성이 통곡을 하게 만든다. 두번째는 부정적인 말을 듣고 영향을 쉽게 받는 사람들이다. 광야에 있는 백성들은 가나안땅 가보지도 않고 얘기만 듣고 그냥 통곡을 했다. 그 사람들은 실제 가보지도 않고 얘기만 듣고 불평하다가 결국은 다 죽게 된다. 세번째는 언약잡은 사람들이다. 말씀을 선택하고 믿음으로 나가는 사람들이다. 결국 여호수아와 갈렙 두 사람이 말씀을 붙잡은 믿음을 통해서 가나안 땅에 들어가게 된다. 이 두 사람이 결국은 이스라엘을 살리고 후대를 살리는 엄청난 일을 하게 된다. 그냥 듣지 말고 나는 이 중에 어디에 속하고 있는지 점검해보시기 바란다. 여러분들은 언약잡은 사람에 해당될 줄로 믿는다. 하나님께서 언약을 주신 것은 내 자신이 살고 사람을 살리라고 주셨다.

1. 하나님의 절대언약

1) 좋은 언약

히 7:22 이와 같이 예수는 더 좋은 언약의 보증이 되셨느니라

언약의 보증이 되었다고 말씀하신다. 언약 가운데는 종적 언약과 횡적 언약이 있다. 이 종적 언약은 하나님께서 일방적으로 주시는 은혜를 나타낸다. 횡적 언약은 네가 지키면 축복을 주고 네가 지키지 않으면 벌을 내리겠다 하는 언약을 나타낸다. 여기서 좋은 언약의 보증이라는 것은 종적 언약, 하나님께서 은혜로 주신 언약이다. 아담과 하와가 타락을 한 다음에 하나님께서는 그들이 희생제사를 드릴 수 있도록 축복해주셨다. 희생 제사를 어떻게 드리느냐에 따라서 축복 받느냐 못받느냐 하는 것이 가인과 아벨에게서 나타난다. 노아와 아브라함도 희생 제사를 드려서 축복을 받았다. 그렇다면 희생제사의 축복의 내용이 무엇인가. 유월절을 통해 희생제사의 구체적인 축복의 내용이 나온다. 유월절날 어린 양의 피를 내서 문지방에 발랐다. 피를 바른 자에게는 엄청난 기적의 역사가 나타났다. 죽음에서 구원받는 축복이 있었다. 또 희생제사를 드린 사건을 통해서 바로가 완전히 항복했다. 희생제사를 드린 이스라엘 백성들이 가는 길에 홍해가 갈라지는 역사가 나타났다. 희생제사에는 이런 세가지 축복이 나타난다. 이것은 예배의 축복과 마찬가지이다. 예배를 드리는 순간에 생명의 힘을 얻게 되고 흑암이 무너지고 홍해가 갈라지고 하나님을 만나는 길이 열린다. 하나님께서는 이스라엘 백성들을 광야로 끌어내서 더 좋은 언약을 주신다. 희생제사의 축복을 위해 제사장을 특별히 세운다. 제사장이 전문적으로 희생제사를 드림으로서 개인과 국가가 이 세가지 축복을 받을 수 있도록 역할을 했다. 구약의 모든 역사는 이 세가지 축복을 제사장을 통해서 받게되는 역사를 기록한 것이다. 그런데 오늘 말씀보니까 예수는 더 좋은 언약의 보증이 되셨다고 한다. 더 좋은 언약의 보증이 무엇인가. 이 언약이라는 단어는 유언이라는 의미가 있다. 이것은 예수님을 통해서 하나님의 자녀가 되는 상속자의 축복을 누리게되는 것을 나타낸다. 예수 그리스도를 통해서 상속자의 축복이 나타나는 것이다.

롬 8:17 자녀이면 또한 상속자 곧 하나님의 상속자요 그리스도와 함께 한 상속자니--

예수 그리스도를 통해서 하나님의 상속자가 되는 축복을 받게되는 것이다. 어마어마한 축복이다. 일반적으로 재벌의 상속자만 되어도 엄청난 축복이라고 생각한다. 이 세상의 왕의 상속자만 해도 어마어마한 신분과 권세를 누리게된다. 그런데 하나님의 상속자가 되었다는 것이다. 그냥 하나님의 상속자가 아니라 그리스도와 함께한 상속자라고 나온다. 주님께서 이것을 보증하셨다는 것이다. 어마어마한 축복의 보증이 그리스도라는 것이다.

2) 더 좋은 언약

히 7:23 제사장 된 그들의 수효가 많은 것은 죽음으로 말미암아 항상 있지 못함이로되

이 세상 제사장들을 영원히 살 수 없고 계속 죽음을 가졌다. 아론부터 성전이 무너질 때, AD 70년대까지 83명의 제사장들이 있었다. 제사장이 계속 죽어갔다는 것이다. 죄를 해결하는 제사장이 계속 죽어갔다는 것은 온전한 구원을 이루지 못했다는 것이다. 제사장이 온전한 구원을 이루지 못하니까 상속자의 영광을 누릴 수 없는 것이다.

히 7:24 예수는 영원히 계시므로 그 제사장 직분도 갈리지 아니하느니라

예수님으로 말미암아 영원한 상속자의 축복을 누릴 수 있게 되었다는 것이다. 그러면 예수님께서 받으신 상속자의 축복이 무엇인가.

엡 1:20-22 그의 능력이 그리스도 안에서 역사하사 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살리시고 하늘에서 자기의 오른편에 앉히사

예수님이 영원한 제사장이 되시기 위해서 하나님께서 그를 살리신 것이다. 십자가를 통해서 모든 것을 완성 시키신 예수님을 하나님께서 살리신 것이다. 그리고 그에게 상속자의 축복을 주셨다. 하늘에서 자기의 오른편에 앉히셨다. 하나님 아버지께서 아들을 하나님 보좌 우편에 앉히셨다. 상속자로 임명하신 것이다.

엡 1:21 모든 통치와 권세와 능력과 주권과 이 세상뿐 아니라 오는 세상에 일컫는 모든 이름 위에 뛰어나게 하시고

하나님 아버지께서 가지셨던 모든 통치와 권세와 능력과 주권을 아들에게 완전히 넘겨주신 것이다. 그 뿐 아니라 오는 세상에 일컫는 모든 이름 위에 뛰어난 이름을 주셨다. 예수 이름만 부르게되면 모든 것이 항복하고 떠나가는 엄청난 이름을 주셨다.

엡 1:22 또 만물을 그의 발 아래에 복종하게 하시고 그를 만물 위에 교회의 머리로 삼으셨느니라

모든 만물이 그리스도 앞에, 그 이름 앞에 복종하게 만들었다. 바로 우리 예수님은 하나님의 상속자로서 모든 것을 다 바친 것이다. 그래서 예수님께서 말씀하시기를 나는 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 가졌다고 하셨다. 그런데 중요한 말씀은 그를 만물 위에 교회의 머리로 세우셨다. 바로 우리의 머리가 되셨다는 것이다. 우리의 보스로 삼으셨다는 것이다. 하나님께서 주신 모든 상속자의 권세가 우리가 함께 누리는 권세가 되었다는 것이다. 이 축복, 모든 권세 능력 힘이 우리가 누릴 수 있는 축복이 되었다는 것이다. 이 축복의 보증이 바로 주님의 십자가를 통해서 나타난다. 우리에게 그렇게 권세를 주시는 이유가 있다. 하나님의 절대목표를 위해서이다.

2. 하나님의 절대목표

1) 항상 계신 대제사장

히 7:25 그러므로 자기를 힘입어 하나님께 나아가는 자들을 온전히 구원하실 수 있으니 이는 그가 항상 살아 계셔서 그들을 위하여 간구하심이라

예수님께 나아가는 모든 자들을 구원에 이루게하시기 위해서 축복을 주셨다는 것이다. 여기서 시제가 현재형으로 되어있다. 영원 속에서 항상 현재라는 뜻이다. 예수님의 구원은 시제가 없는 것이다.

히 13:8 예수 그리스도는 어제나 오늘이나 영원토록 동일하시니라

구약에서 있었던 모든 사람들도 그리스도를 통해서 구원을 받는 것이다. 구약에는 그리스도가 없지 않는가? 바로 제사장이 그리스도의 대리자로서 역할을 했던 것이다. 또 희생제사를 드렸다. 바로 그것은 십자가의 대속의 피를 상징한다. 그것을 믿고 나아가는 자는 모두가 구원받았다. 그래서 말씀하신다. 이는 그가 항상 살아 계셔서 그들을 위하여 간구하심이라. 구약시대에 모형을 보고 구원받았든지 지금 우리가 믿고 받았든지 모든 자들이 다 구원받는 것을 나타낸다. 그들을 위하여 간구하신다고 나온다. 우리에게 온전한 상속자의 축복을 받을 수 있도록 우리를 위하여 간구하고 계신다. 이 축복을 이미 우리가 받은 줄로 믿는다. 우리가 받은 축복은 어마어마하다. 어떤 문제가 생기고 위기가 있다 하더라도 하나님 앞에 기도하게 되면 하나님께서 해결해주신다. 나의 보스 되시며 나의 머리가 되시는 주님께서 우리가 간구할 때 어떤 문제도 해결해주신다. 우리가 분명히 잡을 것은 그리스도께서 이 땅에서 그리스도의 일을 행하시고 끝난 것이 아니라 지금도 영원 속에서 그리스도의 직분을 행하고 계시다.

2) 영원 속의 그리스도

롬 8:34 누가 정죄하리요 죽으실 뿐 아니라 다시 살아나신 이는 그리스도 예수시니 그는 하나님 우편에 계신 자요 우리를 위하여 간구하시는 자시니라

보좌 우편에서 우리를 위해서 지금도 기도하고 계시다. 우리의 연약하고 쓰러지고 넘어지는 순간마다 주님께서는 우리를 위해서 간구하고 계시다. 바로 지금도 그리스도의 역할을 감당하고 계시다. 영원하신 그리스도이다. 계 1:13-16에는 왕된 그리스도를 설명하고 있다.

계 1:13 촛대 사이에 인자 같은 이가 발에 끌리는 옷을 입고 가슴에 금띠를 띠고

우리는 예수님을 볼 수 없지만 영적인 눈을 뜨고 예수님의 모습을 기록한 이 말씀을 보시기 바란다. 지금도 하나님 보좌우편에서 발에 끌리는 옷을 입으시고 가슴에 금띠를 띠고 계시다.

계 1:14 그의 머리와 털의 희기가 흰 양털 같고 눈 같으며 그의 눈은 불꽃 같고

머리가 하얀, 순수한, 조금도 티가 없는 모습을 갖고 계시다. 죄와 흠은 도저히 발견할 수 없는 거룩하신 모습이다. 눈을 불꽃 같은 눈을 갖고 계시다. 우리의 심령과 골수까지 쳐다보시는 불꽃 같은 눈을 갖고 계시다.

계 1:15 그의 발은 풀무불에 단련한 빛난 주석 같고 그의 음성은 많은 물 소리와 같으며

흑암과 죄에 대해서는 도저히 용서하지 않으시고 밟고 무너뜨리시는 권세를 가지신 분이다. 음성은 많은 물소리와 같다. 상상할 수 없는 어마어마한 하나님의 음성이다. 물소리가 조용할 때는 사랑의 물소리를 들을 수 있다. 그러나 엄청난 폭포수 같은, 바다의 파도 소리를 듣게 되면 심판의 물소리를 들을 수 있는 것이다.

계 1:16 그의 오른손에 일곱 별이 있고 그의 입에서 좌우에 날선 검이 나오고 그 얼굴은 해가 힘있게 비치는 것 같더라

그 어마어마한 감히 우리가 쳐다볼 수도 없는 주님께서 오른손에 일곱 별을 쥐고 계시다. 주의 종을 붙들고 계시는 것이다. 붙들고 입에서 좌우에 날선 검이 나온다고 했다. 주의 종을 통해 하나님의 말씀을 선포하시는 것이다. 혼과 관절과 골수와 영을 찔러 쪼개는 말씀을 주시는 것이다. 그 얼굴은 해가 힘있게 비치는 것 같더라. 얼굴을 통해서 생명의 빛을 비치는 것이다. 흑암이 완전히 무너진다. 왕 되신 주님께서 지금도 우리와 함께 계시는 것이다. 행 9:4-6에는 사도바울에게 나타났던 예수님이 나온다.

행 9:4-6 땅에 엎드러져 들으매 소리가 있어 이르시되 사울아 사울아 네가 어찌하여 나를 박해하느냐 하시거늘. 5 대답하되 주여 누구시니이까 이르시되 나는 네가 박해하는 예수라. 6 너는 일어나 시내로 들어가라 네가 행할 것을 네게 이를 자가 있느니라 하시니

사도바울은 한 번도 본 적이 없는 예수를 믿는 사람들을 잡으러 다녔다. 그런데 이 사울에게 나타나서 네가 어째서 나를 박해하느냐고 물으셨다. 누구십니까 물었다. 나는 네가 박해하는 예수라, 그 동안 네가 행동하는 것을 다 보았다, 네 마음과 계획까지도 다 알고있다 하셨다. 일어나서 시내로 가라고 하셨다. 내가 네가 해야할 일을 이를 사람을 붙여주겠다고 하셨다. 하나님께서는 사도바울 같은 죄인도 부르셔서 쓰시기 위해서 인도하셨다. 하나님은 지금도 우리를 인도하고 계신다. 왜 그런가. 세계복음화 하기 위해서. 사도바울처럼 쓰시기 위해서 부르신 줄로 믿는다. 여기서 확실히 붙잡아야할 것이 하나님의 절대계획이다.

3. 하나님의 절대계획

1) 세계복음화는 하나님의 계획

세계복음화는 하나님의 계획인 것을 꼭 붙잡으시기 바란다.

사 60:1 일어나라 빛을 발하라 이는 네 빛이 이르렀고 여호와의 영광이 네 위에 임하였음이니라

1부 예배에서 이야기했다. 세계복음화 속에 있는 자는 반드시 운명이 바뀐다고 했다. 요셉이 언약을 잡았을 때 그 인생이 바뀌었다. 엘리사도 농부하다가 언약을 잡으니까 유능한 엘리사가 되었다. 사도바울이 언약을 잡게 되니까 세상을 살리는 사람이 되었다. 세계복음화의 언약을 잡는 사람들은 하나님께서 운명을 바꾸어가신다. 그러나 이것을 놓치는 순간 이스라엘 백성들처럼 유랑민족이 되고 포로가 되는 비극을 맞이한다. 내가 세계복음화의 언약을 잡느냐 안잡느냐가 이렇게 차이가 난다. 이 언약을 붙잡은 사람은 하나님께서 크게 쓰신다. 다니엘 처럼 세 왕을 섬기는 축복을 받는다. 여러분들의 인생의 목표가 무엇인가. 여러분들의 소원이 무엇인가. 내가 세계복음화의 대열 속에 있다고 생각하시는가. 우리가 그 언약을 잡는 순간에 하나님께서 내 운명을 바꾸실 것이다. 그냥 생각하는 것이 아니라 정말로 잡고 어떻게 해야할 것인가 기도하는 삶이 되어야할 줄로 믿는다.

2) 출애굽은 필수 계획

출애굽은 하나님의 필수 계획이다. 하나님의 계획은 누구도 막지 못한다. 왜냐하면 하나님의 구원은 필수 계획이니까. 출애굽은 그 누구도 막을 수가 없었다. 바로가 막으려고 했지만 막지 못했다. 홍해가 가로막지 못했다. 여리고가 막지 못했다. 출애굽의 길을 그 누구도 막을 자가 없었다. 바로 이것이 하나님의 절대 계획 속에 있는 것이다. 또 하나 중요한 것은 광야를 통과하는 것도 하나님의 필수 계획이다. 광야에서 주신 것이 세절기와 언약궤와 성막이다. 이 세가지가 굉장히 중요한데 이것은 바로 하나님께서 인간에게 주신 횡적 언약을 나타낸다. 하나님께서 일방적으로 주신 것도 중요하지만 횡적 언약이 굉장히 중요하다. 이 언약 가운데 네가 지키면 축복해주고 지키지 않으면 심판하겠다는 것이다. 이스라엘 백성들이 성막을 지으면서 횡적 언약을 체결했음에도 불구하고 이스라엘 백성들은 그것을 지키지않고 원망 불평에 빠졌다. 이것을 지키지 않은 이스라엘 백성들에게 하나님께서 진노하시는 모습이 민 14:27에 나온다.

민 14:27 나를 원망하는 이 악한 회중에게 내가 어느 때까지 참으랴 이스라엘 자손이 나를 향하여 원망하는 바 그 원망하는 말을 내가 들었노라

그래서 그 말한대로 그대로 하나님께서 심판을 내려서 한 명도 가나안 땅에 들어가지 못하게 하셨다. 가나안 땅 들어가는 것이 하나님의 필수 계획인데 이것을 반대하면서 원망 불평하니까 하나님께서는 심판을 내리신 것이다. 그러나 민 14:24 말씀을 보면 여호수아와 갈렙은 달랐다.

민 14:24 그러나 내 종 갈렙은 그 마음이 그들과 달라서 나를 온전히 따랐은즉 그가 갔던 땅으로 내가 그를 인도하여 들이리니 그의 자손이 그 땅을 차지하리라

하나님의 필수 계획만 잡았는데 어마어마한 축복까지 주시는 것이다. 그 뿐 아니라 그 후손에게까지 축복을 내려주셨다. 하나님께서는 여호수아와 갈렙을 통해 이스라엘 백성들을 가나안 땅으로 인도하게 만드신다. 그동안 죽지 않았던 렘넌트들이 바로 이들을 따라서 가나안 땅에 들어가게 된다. 엄청난 축복의 역사가 나타났다. 이 차이가 너무나 간단하다. 하나님의 필수 계획 속에 내가 있느냐 없느냐의 차이인데 결과는 어마어마하다.

3) 가나안 입국은 절대계획

가나안 입국은 하나님의 절대계획이었다. 왜 가나안에 입국하려고 자꾸만 그랬는가. 출 19:6에 나타난다.

출 19:6 너희가 내게 대하여 제사장 나라가 되며 거룩한 백성이 되리라 너는 이 말을 이스라엘 자손에게 전할지니라

이스라엘 백성들을 택해서 가나안 땅에 인도한 이유는 전 세계를 살리기위한 제사장 나라를 세우기 위함이라는 것이다. 가나안 땅에 데리고간 것은 세계복음화의 목적을 갖고 하신 것이다. 우리가 정확한 복음만 잡게되면 반드시 응답이 온다. 언약만 분명히 잡고 언약 속에 있게되면 반드시 변화가 있게된다. 이 언약은 사느냐 죽느냐 모든 결정이 여기서 난다. 우리가 이 한 해를 보면서 결단하는 시간되길 바란다. 저는 이 말씀을 보면서 일제시대 당시에 1938년 때의 이야기가 생각났다. 그 때 경상남도 진주에서 경남 노회에서 중요한 결정을 하게된다. 그 때 노회장이 최상임 목사였다. 일본 사람들이 한국 사람들을 전부다 일본 신사에 숭배하라고 강요했었다. 이것은 근본적으로 잘못된 것이다, 하나님께서 우상숭배하지 말라고 하셨는데 이것은 우상숭배니까 우리는 안하겠다 하고 노회에서 결정을 했다. 평양에서는 주기철 목사님이 그것 때문에 붙잡혀서 고생하시다가 순교를 당했다. 남쪽에서는 노회에서 결정해서 노회 목사님들이 복종하지 않았다. 이분들이 감옥소에 들어가서 많은 고생을 하셨다. 그런데 하나님께서 이들을 다 살려주셨다. 이 경남노회의 결정을 통해서 하나님께서 경상남도를 축복하셨다. 6.25때 북한군이 쳐들어왔다. 그래서 순식간에 서울이 함락되면서 전 지역이 점령을 당했다. 그런데 경남 노회가 있는 경상남도 지역은 북한 사람들이 들어오질 못했다. 이상하게 북한 사람들이 공격해도 무기도 없는 사람들한테 패하는 일이 일어났다. 한동안 전쟁을 통해서 조금만 내려오면 점령하는데 들어오지 못하고 거기서 계속 전쟁을 했다. 그 사이에 부산에 피난왔던 모든 목사님들이 모여서 기도하기 시작했다. 유엔군이 16개 나라가 들어와서 전쟁을 도와주었다. 세상 사람들은 참 이상하게 그렇게 되었다고 하지만 영적인 눈으로 보면 하나님께서 나라를 지키셨다. 우상숭배하지 않겠다는 하나님의 언약을 지키겠다는 믿음 하나를 지켰더니 하나님께서는 그들을 통해서 대한민국이 살아나게하셨다. 한 명의 결정, 한 노회의 결정을 통해서 온 나라 사람들이 축복받고 지금까지 살게되었다. 제가 왜 이 이야기를 합니까. 여러분들 한 명이 가정에서 믿음을 지키게되면 가정이 다 살게된다. 지역이 살게될 줄로 믿는다. 중요한 것은 내가 지금 무엇을 잡고 있느냐이다. 이 언약잡고 응답받는 여러분 되시기 바란다.

결론

행 20:24 내가 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음을 증언하는 일을 마치려 함에는

이 언약 잡으시기 바란다. 큰 응답의 역사가 있을 줄로 믿는다.

“22 by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant. 23 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. 24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

Introduction

During the 1st message of the headquarters (HQ) message, there was a testimony that I remembered. Within this one pastor’s relatives, there was this one family that was always fighting. Whoever was there, they would pick a fight with anyone. When I looked at this, I realized that there is an underlying problem here within this family. The reason was because their walk of faith wasn’t in a good state and they weren’t consistently going to church. Strangely enough, this family and their household were completely destroyed. When I looked at this time, when there is a fighting within a household, there is a reason behind it. There are spiritual problems and darkness within that household. A couple, husband and wife, should love each other but whenever they meet, they are always fighting. There are always a family where parents and children talk to each other, a fight always breaks out. Without a doubt, this is the working of the forces of darkness. There is a commonality among shamans. Shamans are very legalistic and they are able to find ways to prove that they are not wrong. When darkness works, people attack other people to bring them down, create scars, and criticize them so easily. You are not able to do this with a sane mind but you need to be controlled or influenced by something dark and great in order to complete these acts. The truth is that the forces of darkness works to break apart families and interpersonal relationships. The people who are controlled by darkness are always complaining, grumbling, and always fighting. There are three types of people in the Bible. The first type of people were the people in the wilderness who were always complaining, grumbling, and stirring up the atmosphere to make people complain and grumble with them. They would make people around them complain and grumble as well. The second type of people are people who get influenced and swayed easily. Even though they have never been to the land of Canaan before, they would just believe what the people tell them. They have never been to the land of Canaan before but they would already start complaining and grumbling and listen to other people instead. The third type of people are people who go out with the word of God and faith. Out of the 12 spies, 2 of them had faith to enter into the land of Canaan. With their faith, they were able to save the Israelites and their future generations. You shouldn’t just simply listen to this but you need to examine where you are standing among the three types of individuals. I truly believe that you are the person who is inside the covenant. The reason why God gave us the covenant was to save ourselves and people around us.

1. God's Absolute Covenant

1) The good covenant

Verse 22 “…A better covenant.” - There are two types of covenants, vertical covenant or horizontal covenant. There is a covenant that God has given to us, that is called a vertical covenant. A horizontal covenant is where if we keep God’s covenant, then God will bless us but if we don’t keep His covenant, then God will bring judgment upon us. The good covenant is the covenant that God has given to us by His grace. After Adam and Eve fell into sin, God blessed them and allowed them to perform the blood sacrifice. Whether you perform the blood sacrifice or not will determine who will be blessed or not. Noah and Abraham were both blessed because they gave blood sacrifices. If that is so, what is the content of the blessings of the blood sacrifice? The content is seen through the Passover.

During the Passover, when they put the blood of the lamb onto their doorpost and those who did, a great miracle arose. Those who put the blood of the lamb, they were saved from death. Through this event, a work arose to free them from Pharaoh. Also, the great miracle of the Red Sea splitting arose. These three great blessings came upon them. This is the same with the blessing of worship. When we give worship, then we receive strength, able to be moved from death to life, and all darkness is broken. When God brought the Israelites through the Red Sea, God prepared a great blessing to them. In order for them to understand the meaning of the blood sacrifice, God raised up priests. The priests would perform blood sacrifices to play an important role of a middle man to provide blessings among people and the nation. All of the works of the Old Testament, it was recorded for all the blessings were given through the priests.

When we looked at today’s sermon, Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant. What guarantees of a better covenant? The word “covenant” means eternal. What does this mean? This means that through Jesus, we have become eternal children of God and heirs of God. Through Jesus, we received the blessings of being an heir.

Romans 8:17 (“And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”) - With Jesus, we received the blessing of being an heir. This is a tremendous blessing. People say that when you become a wealthy heir, people say this is a great blessing and even within a kingdom of a country, we know that tremendous riches and goods are given to those heirs but we have been appointed as heirs of God. We have been appointed not only as heirs of God but we have been appointed as heirs with Jesus. Jesus guaranteed this. We have been guaranteed of this great blessing.

2) The better covenant

Verses 23 - The priests of this world could not live eternally and faced death eventually. From the priest, Aaron and until the temple collapsed, there were about 83 priests and all of the priests eventually faced death. The priests who would perform blood sacrifices to help cleanse the sins of mankind but they eventually faced death. They didn’t know the origin of sin so they couldn’t find the way to completely forgive the sins of mankind forever.

Verse 24 - Because God lives eternally, our blessing of being an heir of God is eternal. What is the blessing of the heir that Jesus received?

The blessing is shown in Ephesians 1:20-22 (“Which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church.”) - Jesus is the eternal Priest who rose up and has the power to overcome death. Through the cross, God saved Jesus and raised Him from the dead. God then gave Him the blessing to become heir. God seated Jesus on the right side of the throne of God. God had Jesus the Son of God to sit on the right side of the throne of God. God appointed Jesus as His heir. This comes with the authority and power of dominion over all things. God has given all authority and power to Jesus. Not only that but when the name of Jesus is proclaimed, it is a name that is above all things. All things are to bow down before the name of Jesus. Jesus is the heir of God and has received all things. Jesus said to us that all authority and power of heaven and Earth has been given to Him. What is important is that Jesus was appointed to be head over all things of the church. Jesus has become the head of the church, which means He is our boss. He has all authority and power which means that we can also enjoy the same authority and power. All of the authority, power, and dominion has been given to us as well. We are able to enjoy them as well. All of this was able to take place because of the event of the cross. There is a reason why God has given us authority and power. It was part of God’s absolute goal.

2. God's Absolute Goal

1) The high priest who is always with us

Verse 25 - God blessed us so that He could give us salvation. If you look in this scripture, it is speaking in present tense. Which means that the salvation of God is applicable to us even now. In other words, the salvation of Jesus has no time frame and limitation.

Hebrews 13:8 (“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”) - All of the people who were saved in the Old Testament, they were saved through Jesus Christ. But Jesus Christ was not born in the Old Testament but the priests in the Old Testament were portraying the work of Christ. They also gave blood sacrifices and this represented the sacrifice that Jesus Christ would fulfill on the cross and His blood that would atone for our stones. Anyone who completed the blood sacrifices were saved. That is why it is written that Jesus Christ is still alive and interceding for His people in the Bible. All people who believed in Jesus have been saved and will be saved.

Jesus is interceding for us so that we can receive salvation through Him. No matter what problems come, if we pray then God will absolutely answer us. Jesus who is our boss and our head, when we go before Him, He will solve all things. What we must hold onto is the fact that Jesus did not just complete this and stop everything but Jesus is continuing to intercede for us even now.

2) Christ in eternity

Romans 8:34 (“Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”) - He is continuing to intercede and pray for us. Even when we may feel lacking or weak, Jesus is continuing to intercede for us. Jesus is continuing to fulfill the work of Christ even now.

Revelation 1:13-16 (“And in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; 15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; 16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.”) - We may not be able to see Jesus right now but we must think about Jesus who spoke in this scripture. Right now, Jesus is sitting at the right side of the throne of God, is clothed with garment, and girded about the chest with a golden band. And, His head and hair are white as wool and snow. There is no sin that appears on Him and He is righteous. His eyes are like a flame of fire and He watches us with those eyes that are flaming with fire. His feet are like fine brass and with those feet, Jesus has the authority to crush the forces of darkness. His voice is as of the sound of the waters. These may seem unimaginable and unfathomable to us. His voice is so pure and calming like water but during a storm, the water crashes against each other and this is the voice that He speaks in when He passes on judgment.

Revelation 1:16 - In His right hand, He had seven stars. What this means is that the Almighty God, who we cannot even dare to look into His eyes, He is holding onto the seven churches. This means that He is holding onto His people. What does He do while He is holding onto His people? With His mouth, He is proclaiming the word of God. With the sword, He is proclaiming His word. His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. He is shining the light of hope. The work of completely breaking down the forces of darkness takes place. Jesus Christ who is the True King is watching over us. The work of breaking down darkness is taking place. Jesus Christ is our True King and is with us even now.

Acts 9:4-6 (“Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?' 5 And he said, 'Who are You, Lord?' Then the Lord said, 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.' 6 So he, trembling and astonished, said, 'Lord, what do You want me to do?' Then the Lord said to him, 'Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.' ”) - Paul went around persecuting and killing Christians but Jesus appeared before him asking him what he was doing. Paul asked who Jesus was and Jesus told him that He was the Christ that Paul was persecuting. Jesus was saying that He saw everything that Paul did. At that very moment, Jesus commanded Paul to go into the city and to do the mission that Jesus prepared for him to do. Jesus bought a sinner to do His work. God is guiding us even now. Why is that? For the sake of world evangelism. In order to use us like Paul, God has called you. From here, there is something that we must hold onto. We must hold onto God’s absolute plan. We must hold onto the fact that God’s plan for world evangelism is His absolute plan.

3. God's Absolute Plan

1) World evangelization is God's plan

Isaiah 60:1 (“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”) - This was given to us during the HQ 1st message, if you are within God’s plan of world evangelism then your fate will change. When Joseph held onto the covenant of world evangelism, his life and fate changed. When Elisha held onto the covenant even when he was a farmer, his life completely changed. Paul held onto the covenant and his life also completely changed. Those who held onto the covenant of world evangelism, their lives and fates were completely changed by God. The moment you lose hold of this, you will become like the Israelites, wandering around like captives and slaves. What determines your life is whether you are holding onto the covenant of world evangelism or not. Those who hold onto this covenant, God will absolutely use them greatly. Like Daniel, you will receive the blessing to lead three kings. What is your lifelong goal? What is your desire and wish? Do you think that through you, world evangelism will happen? The moment you hold onto the covenant, God will change your fate and destiny. Don’t just think about this with lightheartedness but truly hold onto it and think about what you must do.

2) Exodus was the inevitable plan

The Exodus was part of God’s inevitable plan. What does this mean? No one can block God’s plan. Why is that? God’s salvation is essential. No one was able to block God’s plan in the Old Testament. Pharaoh wasn’t able to block God’s plan. The Red Sea wasn’t able to block God’s plan. The Wall of Jericho couldn’t either. No one could. This is what it means to be inside of God’s inevitable plan.

Entering into the land of wilderness was part of God’s plan. The three feasts took place in the wilderness and the three feasts were so important. The three feasts represented God’s horizontal covenant. Of course, God gave His covenant to His people directly, which is the vertical covenant but He also gave the horizontal covenant as well. The horizontal covenant is that if you keep the covenant, you will be blessed but if you don’t hold onto God's covenant, then God’s judgment will come upon you. Even though the Israelites kept the Passover and horizontal covenant but they weren’t able to keep it till the end and ended up falling into complaining and grumbling.

We can see God’s judgment coming upon the Israelites who failed to hold onto God’s covenant in Numbers 14:27 (“How long will this wicked community grumble against me? I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites.") - God’s judgment came upon them and no one was able to enter into the land of Canaan. The land of Canaan was part of God’s plan but instead they were complaining and grumbling and God’s judgment came upon them.

Numbers 14:24 (“But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.”) - But, Joshua and Caleb were different. Tremendous blessings came to them when they just held onto the covenant. Not only that but tremendous blessings were given to their children and future descendants. God guided Joshua and Caleb to lead the Israelites to enter into the land of Canaan. The Israelite remnants who didn’t die in the wilderness, they were able to enter into the land of Canaan. This is a tremendous blessing. This is the significant difference. Are you within God’s absolute plan or not? You may say that you have no interest in this and God is judging us too strictly but the land of Canaan was part of God’s absolute plan. Why did God tell them to go to the land of Canaan?

3) Entrance into Canaan was the absolute plan

Exodus 19:6 (“And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”) - The reason why God chose the Israelites to enter into the land of Canaan was to do world evangelism and save all nations. The reason why God sent them to the land of Canaan was to do world evangelism. If we just hold onto the sure covenant then absolute blessings will come to you. When we stay inside the covenant, then changes will occur. The covenant determines if we live or die.

With the new year coming up, we need to come to a resolution. When I looked at today’s sermon, I thought about the time when Japan colonized Korea, which was between 1910-1945. During that time, an important decision arose in a region of Korea of Gyeongsangnam-do within the Korean presbyterian synod. The leader of the synod was Pastor San-min Chae. The Japanese ordered the Koreans to bow down and worship the shrines. And, this was fundamentally wrong because God said for us not to worship idols so the synod decided to make a decision to not worship the shrines. Because of that decision, Pastor Chae was captured, tortured, and eventually martyred. The other pastors of other denominations weren’t able to decide on what to do and they saw people being imprisoned but God saved the pastors of Korea in the end. God blessed the region of Gyeongsangnam-do because of the decision that they made. During the Korean War, North Korea invaded South Korea but in Gyeongsangnam-do, the North Korean army wasn't able to enter it. Strangely enough, they weren’t able to invade and enter into this region. The war continued but they still couldn’t enter into Gyeongsangnam-do. At that time, the pastors gathered in Busan and they all started praying together. The United Nations (UN) eventually came together and helped bring a ceasefire to the war. People may say that this was a random act or a mere coincidence but we know that this was the work of God when we open our spiritual eyes. Because of their faith that refused to worship idols, God remembered their faith and blessed them tremendously. With one person’s resolution and decision, the entire region and nation can be saved. Why am I telling you this? When one person in the family keeps their faith, then even through their faith may be lacking and weak, they will be able to save their entire family and household. Your region will be saved. What is important is that we must hold onto this right now. May you hold onto the covenant and receive answers.

Conclusion

Hold onto Acts 20:24 (“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”) - Hold onto this covenant then great answers will come to you.
