“​​하나님의 징계에 나타난 사랑”

“징계는 다 받는 것이거늘 너희에게 없으면 사생자요 친아들이 아니니라 또 우리 육신의 아버지가 우리를 징계하여도 공경하였거든 하물며 모든 영의 아버지께 더욱 복종하며 살려 하지 않겠느냐 그들은 잠시 자기의 뜻대로 우리를 징계하였거니와 오직 하나님은 우리의 유익을 위하여 그의 거룩하심에 참여하게 하시느니라” (히브리서 12:8-10)

서론 Intro

오래된 이야기다 미국에 한 청년이 큰 은혜를 받고 신학교에서 졸업을해 큰 은혜를 받고 아프리카로 선교를 가게 되었다. 준비를 하는 와중에 교통사고가 나 다리를 잃게 되었다. 그는 너무 큰 실망을 얻은채 탄식하며 하나님께 기도 하였다. 하나님, 내가 아프리카 오지에 가서 복음 을 증거하려 하는데 어째서 교통사고를 당해 다리를 잃게 하셨습니까? 거기에 하나님은 아무 말씀 않으시고 여전히 그에게 뜨거운 마음을 허락하셔서 결국 다리를 잃은 자리에 고무로된 의족을 달고 아프리카로 가게 된다. 가서 복음을 전하는데 또 무슨 일인지 복음을 전하는 와중에 식인종에게 잡히게 되었다. 이 백인 선교사를 잡은 추장은 아주 기뻐하며 백인 고기를 먹게 되었다 기뻐하며 잔치를 열었다고 한다. 그러면서 모든 종족에게 오늘은 백인 고기를 먹게 되었다 다 같이 즐기자 했다고 한다. 그 때에 그 선교사가 이런 말을 했다고 한다. 나는 백인은 맞지만 맛있는 고기는 아니다, 그러니 너희가 먹어봤자 실망하게 될것이다. 그렇게 말한뒤 자기 몸에 붙어있던 고무 의족을 떼어내어 그들에게 먹으라고 던졌다고 한다. 그것을 받은 식인종들이 잘라서 먹기 시작하는데 맛이 너무 없는거다. 그래서 다 먹다 말고 뱉어내게 되었다. 그러자 추장이 가만 생각해 보더니 아, 이것은 사람이 아닌 신이다 라고 결론 내렸다고 한다. 그렇게 추장을 비롯한 모든 식인종들이 그 선교사 앞에 절을 하기 시작했다. 마침내 그 선교사는 복음을 전해 그 종족이 다 회개를 하고 복음을 받게 되었다는 이야기이다. 그는 고통으로 다리를 잃게 되었지만 결국은 그것 때문에 살게 되고 생명의 축복의 열매를 맺게 되었다는 놀라운 이야기이다.

1. 하나님이 주시는 징계 Discipline from God

1) 아들에게만 주시는 징계 Disciples given only to sons

롬 Romans 3:9-10

오늘 8절에 아주 중요한 말씀 하고 계신다, “징계는 다 받는것이거늘 너희에게 없으면 사생자요 친아들이 아니니라". 징계라는 것은 신자라면 누구든 모두 받는것 이라는 말씀이다. 마치 어린아이가 태어나면 예방주사를 맞히는것과 같다. 예방 주사도 한두종류가 아니라 여러 종류가 있다. 아이는 계속 울지만 그것을 맞어야만 앞으로 위험한 병에 걸리지 않으니 부모들이 억지로라도 맞게 하는것이다. 이 세상에 사는 한 누구든지 이렇게 예방 주사를 맞아야만이 건강하게 살수 있는것이다. 로마서 3:9-10에 중대한 말씀 하고 있다. “유대인이나 헬라인이나 다 죄 아래에 있다고 우리가 이미 선언하였느니라”. 여기서 유대인이나 헬라인이나 하는 말은 믿는 사람이나 믿지 않는 사람이나 이 말이다. 누구든지 다 죄 아래에 있고 의인은 없나니 단 한명도 이 지구상에 없다는 말이다. 그러므로 하나님께서는 누구에게나 다 징계를 행하신다는것이다. 어린 아이들이 얼마나 주사 맞으면 아파하나. 아이가 아파 울어도 부모는 끝까지 주사를 맞게 한다. 내 자식이니까. 하나님도 마찬가지이시다. 우리를 너무 사랑 하시기에 징계도 주신다. 징계 통해 우리가 잘 성장하게 하신다. 그런데 여기서 우리가 잡을것이 있다. 8절 말씀에 “너희에게 징계가 없으면 사생자요 친아들이 아니니라" 라고 나와있다. 여러분, 사생자, 친아들이 아닌 사람들은 징계를 받지 않고 징벌을 받는것이다. 징계와 징벌은 완전히 다르다. 징벌은 심판을 의미한다.

2) 사생자에게는 징벌 Retribution for the illegitimate

친아들이 아닌 사생자의 특징은 무엇인가 이거다. 성경에서는 분명하게 기록하고 있다. 시편 14:1에 보면 “어리석은 자는 그이 마음에 이르기를 하나님이 없다 하는도다.” 하나님이 없다 하면서 부정하는 자들이 사생자 인것이다. 이런 사람들은 어떤 인생을 사는지 로마서 1:32에 나온다. “그들이 이같은 일을 행하는 자는 사형에 해당한다고 하나님께서 정하심을 알고도 자기들만 행할 뿐만 아니라 또한 그런 일을 행하는 자들을 옳다 하느니라". 성경에 그런일을 하면 당신은 멸망한다, 영원한 죽음에 이를것이다 하고 이야기 했음에도 불구하고 말도 안되는 소리 하지 말아라 하고 대적하는 사람들이다. 이런 사람들은 어떠한 처벌을 받게되나, 로마서 1:24 이다. 그러므로 하나님께서 그들을 마음의 정욕대로 더러움에 내버려 두었다 라고 되어있다. 말씀을 통해, 여러가지 통해 깨닫지 못하니 하나님이 그냥 내버려 두고 네 맘대로 살아라 하시는것이다. 그게 어떠한 결과를 불러 일으키나. 시편 73:12에 이상한 말씀이 나타난다, “볼지어다, 이들은 악인들이라도 항상 평안하고 재물은 더욱 불어나는도다". 하나님을 대적하고 말씀도 부정하고 영적으로 나쁜짓을 계속 하는데도 불구하고 더 편안하고 돈과 재물이 우리 믿는 사람들보다 더 들어온다는 말이다. 우리 믿는 사람들을 조롱 하기도 한다. 믿는 사람들을 거지 취급하고 조롱도 한다. 그런데 시편 73:19 말씀 보면 그들이 어찌하여 갑자기 황폐되었는가 놀랄정도로 그들은 전멸했다 라고 나와있다. 굉장히 잘 되고 어마어마한 부자가 되어 떵떵 거리며 살았던 그 사람이 순식간에 망해 이 땅에 흔적도 없이 사라지게 되는것이다. 이것을 보고 징벌 이라고 한다. 징벌을 받은 사람의 삶이 이런식으로 가는것이다. 징계와는 완전히 차이가 나는것이다.

2. 하나님의 자식 사랑 God's love for His children

1) 육신의 아버지와 영의 아버지 The physical father and the spiritual Father

오늘 9절 말씀 보게 되면 “또 우리 육신의 아버지가 우리를 징계하였거니와 오직 하나님은 우리의 유익을 위하여 그의 거룩하심에 참여하게 하시느니라". 여기서 육신의 아버지와 영의 아버지가 나온다. 세상 모든 육신 아버지의 자식을 키우는 목표가 뭔가? 그 목표는 창세기 3, 6,11 장을 위해 생명 걸고 그것을 성취하게 하는것이다. 네가 최고가 되고 하나님 처럼 되어서 성공해라, 네 육신을 위해 살아서 성공해라 이거다. 하나님 없이 이렇게 살다가 결국에는 재앙을 만나게 되고 징벌의 자리에 들어가게 되는것이다. 자기 아들들에게 성공을 위해 집중 교육과 훈련까지 해가면서 그런 사람들로 양육 해나가는것을 볼수있다. 그런데 우리 영의 아버지는 어떻나. 영의 아버지의 목표는 10절에 나온다, “그들은 잠시 자기 뜻대로 우리를 징계하였거니와 오직 하나님은 우리의 유익을 위하여 그의 거룩하심에 참여하게 하시느니라". 다시 말하면 우리 창세기 3, 6,11 장에서 해방 시키시기 위해서 징계를 통해 이루어 나가시는것이다. 이것 때문에, 이 문제를 해결하시기 위해 하나님께서는 예수 그리스도를 이 땅에 보내신것이다. 왜 보내셨나. 베드로전서 2:24, “친히 나무에 달려 그 몸으로 우리 죄를 담당하셨으니 이는 우리로 죄에 대하여 죽고 의에 대하여 살게하려 하심이라" 다시 말하면 죄인된 우리를 의인으로 만드시기 위해 그리 하신거다. 이것때문에 예수님께서 십자가에 매달리셨다. 뿐만 아니라 로마서 8:15에, “너희는 무서워 하는 종의 영을 받지 아니하고 양자의 영을 받았으므로 우리가 아바 아버지라 부르짖느니라” 하고 말씀하고 있다. 다시 말씀드리면 사단의 종노릇 하는 우리가 이제는 해방 받아 거룩한 하나님의 자녀가 되게 하기 위해 이러한 일을 하고 계신다는 말이다. 얼마나 감사한가. 벧전 2:9에 계속해서 나온다, “그러나 너희 는 택하신 족속이요 왕같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유된 백성” 이라고 하고 있다. 우리를 생명을 살리는 왕같은 제사장으로, 거룩한 백성으로 만들기 위해 이렇게 하신다는 말이다. 그래서 우리를 최고의 존귀한 존재로 만드시기 위해 징계를 통해 성장시켜 나가시는것이다. 우리가 이것을 가만 생각해보면 하나님의 사랑이 얼마나 풍성한지 꼭 붙잡아야한다.

2) 영원한 사랑 Eternal love

눅 Luke 15:18-19, 24

풍성한 사랑 뿐만 아니라 영원하신 사랑의 하나님 되신다. 누가복음 15:18장에 탕자 이야기를 잘 아실것이다. 둘째 아들이 아버지의 재산중에 자기가 가질 분깃을 가지고 나가서 허랑방탕하기 있는 재산을 다 써버린뒤 거지가 되어 아버지 앞에 다시 나타난 이야기다. 나가서 있는 재산 다 날려버려 돼지가 먹는것을 훔쳐먹을 정도로 망했다. 그것은 무엇을 의미하나, 아버지를 떠난 자의 영적인 모습을 나타낸다. 그런데 눅15의 탕자의 이야기의 핵심은 바로 둘째 아들이 마침내 거기서 갖게된 생각이다. 다 망해서 아무것도 없었다. 그 때에 둘째 아들이 이야기 한것, 눅14:18-19 가 중요하다, “내가 일어나 아버지께 가서 이르기를 아버지 내가 하늘과 아버지께 죄를 지었사오니 지금부터는 아버지 아들이라 일컬음을 감당치 못하겠나이다, 나를 품꾼의 하나로서 보소서”. 중요한것은 바로, 둘째 탕자 아들이 자신의 죄를 깨닫고 아버지께 가기로 결단 한것이 성경이 이야기 하는 가장 중요한 포인트다. 내가 죄를 짓고 아버지 앞에 못난 모습을 보였지만 그래도 깨닫고 아버지 앞으로 가면 되는것이다. 그 믿음을 말하는것이 탕자의 이야기이다. 아들을 보시라, 자기의 죄를 먼저 발견했다. 말할수 없는 그 징계 가운데 말도 할수 없이 고통스러웠지만 그래도 내가 갈곳은 오직 아버지께로 밖에 없다 이것을 깨달은것이다. 이것이 중요한것이다. 그래서 눅 15:24에 그를 아버지가 아들로 다시 받아드리는 모습이다. 내 아들이 죽었다가 다시 살아났으며 내가 잃었다가 다시 얻었노라 하니 그들이 즐거워했다 라고 나와있다. 아들이 돌아온것만으로 너무 반갑고 기뻐하는것이다. 아버지 떠난 아들을 뭐라고 했나, 내 아들이 죽었다가 다시 살아났다고 한다. 하나님 떠난자는 죽은 상태이고 돌아오는 자는 살아난다 이것이다. “잃었다가 다시 내가 얻었도다.” 하나님의 자녀에 대한 영원한 사랑을 나타낸다. 이것을 꼭 잡으시기를 바란다. 살아가다 하나님을 실망 시키는 일이 있을수가 있다. “하나님은 나를 미워하실거야..” 절대로 그런 하나님이 아니다. “주님, 죄인된 제가 다시 주께 돌아갑니다, 저를 받아주소서” 하고 나아갈때 주님께서는 반드시 받아주신다. 하나님의 사랑이 얼마나 풍성하고 놀라운지 다시한번 붙잡고 누리시기를 바란다. 어떠한 실수를 하셨어도 상관이 없다, 그냥 툴툴 털고 주님, 죄송하게 되었습니다 하고 나아가면 되는것이다. 그러면 금가락지도 껴주시고, 신도 새로 신켜주시고 새옷도 입혀주시고, 모든것 다 회복 시키시는것이다. 이 풍성하신 하나님 아버지의 사랑을 누리시는 여러분 되시기를 바란다.

3. 하나님의 놀라운 은혜 God's amazing love

1) 믿음의 비밀 The mystery of faith

삿 Judges 11:1, 3, 6, 11, 29

그런데 성경 보게 되면 이것으로 끝나지 않는것을 볼수가 있다. 성경에 놀라운 아버지의 은혜를 발견할수가 있다. 사사기 11:1 보면 “길르앗 사람 입다는 큰 용사였으나 기생이 길르앗에게서 낳은 아들이라” 기생이 길르앗에게 낳은 아들 이 말은 그가 사생자 였다는 말이다. 그러니까 태어나서 부터 하나님 앞에 버림받은자 였다는것이다. Chosen people 이 아니었다. 유대인이 드리는 예배에도 참석할수도 없고, 총회에도 참석할수 없는 신분을 가지고 태어난 사람이 입다 였다는것이다. 3절 말씀 보면 그는 신분 때문에 하도 핍박을 받으니 형제들을 피해 돕 땅, 우상숭배하는 아람땅으로 갔다는것이 나온다. 이방에 살고있는 우상숭배자들과 똑같은 신분이니 거기에 살게 된거다. 이방 그런데 이상한 일이 생긴다. 6절 말씀에 장로들이 이 땅에 와서 암몬 자손이 쳐들어 와서 우리와 싸우려 하니 네가 우리의 장관이 되라 라고 이야기 하는 부분이 나타난다. 그 말을을 들은 입다가 11절 말씀에 이상한 이야기를 한다 마지막 부분에 보면, “이에 입다가 미스바에서 자기의 말을 다 여호와 앞에 아뢰니라". 자기보고 와서 장관이 되고 사사가 되라 라고 말하면 그래, 내가 가서 할게 하고 큰 소리 치며 자랑 해야 할것인데 대신 하나님 앞에 무릎 꿇고 기도한것이다. 이것은 놀라운 사실이다. 하나님 앞에 완전히 버림 받은 자 이고 우상 땅에서 우상숭배 할수밖에 없는 환경에 있던 사람이다. 그런 사람이 문제가 생기니까 거기서 무릎 딱 꿇고 기도 한거다. 버림 받은 사람도 기도 하면 됩니까, 지금 이 이야기 인것이다. 그런데 11:29 말씀에 보게 되면, “이에 여호와의 영이 입다에게 임하시니", 하나님이 그를 받아 들였다는것을 나타낸다. 이것을 오늘 징계와 징벌 차원에서 보면 징벌과 저주 가운데서 완전히 해방된 신분으로 바뀌었다는 말이다. 그는 징벌, 사생자 상태에서도 하나님께 기도 하고 있었다는것이다. 하나님께서는 그를 버리지 않으시고 은혜를 부으셔서 사사로 삼으신다. 8절 말씀 다시 보시기를 바란다, “징계는 다 받는것이거늘 너희에게 없으면 사생자요 친 아들이 아니니라.” 사생자는 은혜니 뭐니 하나님이 돌아보지도 않는 버림받은 존재이다. 그런데 그런 사람도 와서 그런 신분에도 불구하고 하나님 앞에 기도하니 그가 사생자된 신분에서 바뀌어 이스라엘의 최고 지도자 사사가 되는 축복을 받았다는것이다. 여러분, 로마서 10:13 말씀 보게 되면, “누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자는 구원을 받으리라” 라고 되어있다. 누구든지 어떤 일이든지 어떤 죄인이든지, 버림 받은 자라고 할지라도 주님 앞에 부르짖으면 주님께서는 다 받아주시고 해결해 주시고 용서해 주신다. 얼마나 풍성하신 하나님이신가. 얼마나 놀라우신 하나님의 은혜인가. 바로 이 하나님이 우리의 하나님 이시다. 바로 이 분이 우리를 구원하신 아버지 되심을 믿는다. 이 축복 받으시라. 아무 걱정할 필요가 없다, 이런분이 우리의 아버지 이시다.

2) 변화시키는 믿음 Faith that changes us

우리에게 주신 약속(창1:26, 빌2:6, 9) Promise given to us (Genesis 1:26, Philippians 2:6, 9)

우리 속에서 역사(창1:27, 요20:22, 히4:12) God's work in us (Genesis 1:27, John 20:22, Hebrews 4:12)

우리를 살리는 방법(요1:1, 행1:14, 시103:20-22) The method to save us (John 1:1, John 1:14, Psalm 103:20-22)

여기서 붙잡을것은 변화시키는 믿음이다. 입다가 잡은 믿음, 언약잡은 우리가 잡을 믿음을 다시한번 점검 해봐야한다. 우리에게 주신 약속 반드시 잡아야 한다. 누구든지 주의 이름을 부르면 구원을 받는다는 이 언약의 말씀 잡고 우리는 기도해야 한다. 창 1:26 보게 되면, “우리가 우리의 형상을 따라 사람을 만들자” 하고 말씀하신다. 우리를 만드시고 이 땅에 있게 하신 분은 성삼위 하나님 이시다. 이 성삼위 하나님께서 지금도 구원의 사역을 이루시고 있다. 눈에 보이지 않게 역사하고 계신거다. 우리가 잡아야할 믿음은 바로 우리 속에 역사하시는 성삼위 하나님 이시다. 우리는 하나님의 은혜 가운데 잃었던 하나님의 형상을 찾게 되었고 하나님의 보화를 소유할수 있게 되었다. 그것이 끝이 아니라 성령을 보내셔서 우리 안에 살수 있게 하셨다. 뿐만 아니라 말씀을 허락하셔서 그 말씀 통해 우리를 살리는 축복을 허락 하셨다. 하나님은 우리를 인도하시는데 모든것을 완벽히 준비하고 인도하고 계신다. 우리가 힘을 얻고 승리하는 방법이 바로 뭐냐 이것이다. 요 1:1 태초에 말씀이 계시니라, 이 말씀은 하나님과 함께 계셨으니 이 말씀은 하나님 이시니라” 이 말씀을 붙잡는것이다. 말씀을 붙잡았다는 것은 말씀되신 하나님을 잡았다는 말이다. 입다가 살았던것도 말씀을 붙잡았기 때문에 산것이다. 믿음의 영웅 그 누구든 말씀을 잡았기 때문에 그런 영웅이 된것이다. 그렇다면 이 말씀 잡고 어떻게 해야하나, 히브리서 4:12, 기도에 전혀 힘쓰는 우리가 되어야겠다. 이때 능력을 주시고 하나님께서 역사하시기 시작한다. 우리가 주님 앞에 기도할때 마다 시편 103:20-22 나타나는 보좌의 놀라운 능력의 역사. 말씀을 이루고 행하고 하나님 뜻이 이루어지게 하는 역사가 나타난다. 정말 얼마나 감사한지 모른다. 이번에 징계 라는 말씀 통해서 얼마나 큰 은혜 받고 있는지 모른다. 이 징계라는 것을 통해 하나님의 사랑이 쏱아지는것을 볼수가 있다. 예수를 믿는데 왜 이렇게 안되어지고 힘드냐 이거다. 여기에 대한 비밀이 이 안에 다 들어있는것이다. 이 축복 정말 누리시는 여러분 되시라.

결론

사 Isaiah 55:8-9

말씀 맺겠다. 사 55:8 말씀 꼭 잡으시기를 바란다, “내 생각은 너희 생각과 다르며 내 길은 너희 길과 다름이니라. 여호와의 말씀 이니라. 이는 하늘이 땅보다 높음 같이 내 길은 너희 길보다 높으며 내 생각은 너희 생각보다 높음 이니라.” 여러분들은 이미 복음 안에 있기에 이 의미 다 알것이다. 우리 생각, 인간의 생각, 아무리 해도 결국에는 세상 보화에 관심이 있게 되어있다. 하나님의 생각은 하늘 보화를 찾아라 이 말씀이다. 우리의 길은 아무리 열심히 가도 결국에는 멸망의 길 이다. 하나님께서 예비하신 길, 하나님의 길은 생명의 길 이요 존귀하게 거룩하게 되는 길인것을 우리가 꼭 붙잡아야겠다. 이 축복받는 여러분 되시기를 축원한다.

“8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.”

Introduction

It was a story told from a long time ago. There was a church member who received a lot of grace from a sermon and decided he wanted to become a missionary in Africa. When he finished all of his preparations for his mission trip to Africa, he got into a car accident and ended up injuring his legs. After the car accident, he became so disappointed that he prayed to God. He prayed to God, “God I wanted to become a missionary in Africa but I lost my legs in a car accident.” God didn’t give him any answer after that prayer and he still had a passionate heart for Africa so he still prepared for his trip to Africa and went there. When he was in Africa, while he was preaching the gospel, he ended up getting captured by cannibals. The chief of the cannibals was very excited because they were able to eat a caucasian person and “white” meat but the missionary said this, “I may be a Caucasian person but I am not good meat so you will be disappointed.” He took his prosthetic legs and told them to eat his legs, so the cannibals started eating his prosthetic legs but it was so gross that they spit it out. The chief thought about this and thought that this missionary was not a man but he was a god. So all of the cannibals all started worshiping this missionary but at that time, the missionary started preaching the gospel to the chief and the whole village. After that, the entire village repented before God and became saved. Because of his prosthetic legs, the whole village in Africa became saved and great works arose. There is an important message in today’s Biblical passage.

1. Discipline from God

1) Disciples given only to sons

Verse 8 - When a young child is born, they are vaccinated with protective vaccines. The infant may cry but those vaccines are very important for their health and is needed. As long as you live in this world, you need vaccines in order to be protected against harmful diseases.

Romans 3:9-10 “What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. 10 As it is written: 'There is none righteous, no, not one.' ” - The Jews and Greeks are referring to anyone who believes or not, all of them are under sin and everyone is a sinner in this world. But, it is said that God disciplines all people of this world. An infant may cry when they get vaccinated but they must be vaccinated against harmful diseases. But you still vaccinate them because that child is your child. This is the same thing with God. God disciplines us so that we can live the life that He desires before Him. We must understand something here.

2) Retribution for the illegitimate

Verse 8 - An illegitimate child is someone without parents. According to the people back in the days, these children were not being disciplined but facing retribution. Retribution is referring to judgment before God.

The characteristics of an illegitimate child are described precisely in the Bible in Psalm 14:1 “The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.” - An illegitimate child is one who declares that there is no God and lives a life against God.

The life that they live is a life as seen in Romans 1:32, 24 “Who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves.” - If you live a life against God, you will live a life of death but they continue to live this life and live a life of uncleanness. What kind of judgment and retribution will they face?

It is written in Romans 1:24 - Through the word of God, if you cannot realize and understand, then God said that He will forsake and cast you away. Then, what kind of results would come from this?

It is said in Psalm 73:12, 19 “Behold, these are the ungodly, Who are always at ease; They increase in riches. 19 How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors!” - Even though they continue to do wicked and unclean things, they think that they are at peace and build their riches in this world. That is why many nonbelievers look down on Christians and think that they can be wealthy without God.

But in the end what happens? It is written in Psalms 73:19 - In an instant, they will face destruction in the end and they will vanish from this world in vain. This is what we mean by retribution judgment. This is the life of those who face retribution from God.

2. God's Love for His Children

1) The physical father and the spiritual Father

Verses 9, 10 - Think about this, our human fathers, what are their goals for their children? All human fathers’ goals are to live to fulfill Genesis 3, 6, and 11 for their children. They encourage their children to be the best and to live for their worldly desires, and to become successful. They live a life without God, then they will face retribution and judgment before God. All human fathers are staking their lives to help their children live a life without God and in Genesis 3, 6, and 11. Then, what about our spiritual father?

The goal of our spiritual father is seen in verse 10. God disciplines and chastens us so that we can be freed from Genesis 3, 6, and 11. In order to solve our fundamental problems, God sent us Jesus Christ to Earth. Why did God send us Jesus Christ?

It is written in 1 Peter 2:24 “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” - In other words, to bring us out of sin into righteousness, God sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross.

Not only that but in

Romans 8:15 “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, 'Abba, Father.' ” - We who were living as children of Satan, we have been freed and in order to make us righteous once again, Jesus Christ came and fulfilled His work on the cross. We should be thankful.

1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” - In order to make us righteous, God has created us to become royal priests.

2) Eternal love

Verse 10 - in order to partake in His holiness, God chastens and disciplines us. If we think about this, we can see once again the greatness of God’s love for us. God who is made of eternal love loves us.

We know the story of the prodigal son in the Bible. The prodigal son wasted all of his father’s money and came back as a beggar. When he was out in the world, he used up all of his father’s money and started living like a pig. What does this mean? This was showing the life of those who are living a life separated from God. The core of this story, we need to hold onto the thought process of the second son, the prodigal son, of the father. The prodigal son lost everything but he said something important in Luke 15:18-19, 24 “I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants. 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.” - The important thing is that the second son, the prodigal son, realized his sin against his father and made a resolution to return to his father. We may sin against God and have done something wicked against God, but God is in a place where He will always forgive us. This was the faith of the prodigal son. Look at this prodigal son. He realized his sin against his father. He was facing so much difficulty because of his sin against his father but even despite his sin, he realized that he needed his father and the only place he could only turn to was his father. This is important.

Luke 15:24 - The father does accept his son back again. When his son returned, the father was so happy. The father said that his dead son had returned. The life that we used to live in death, we have returned back to life when we are in Christ. What does this mean?

3. God's Amazing Love

1) The mystery of faith

This is the eternal love of God. We must hold onto this. We may disappoint God in our lives and we think that God hates us but God is not that kind of God. If we confess to God as a sinner and ask God to forgive us, God will accept us with open arms. God is a God with eternal and abundant love. No matter what mistake we make before God, shake yourself off and return back to God. If we do this, then God will clothe us, give you new shoes and a new robe. May we enjoy God who is full of abundant love. If you look in the Bible, it doesn’t end here. We can see God’s great grace.

Judges 11:1, 3, 6, 11, 29 “Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, but he was the son of a harlot; and Gilead begot Jephthah. 3 Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and dwelt in the land of Tob; and worthless men banded together with Jephthah and went out raiding with him. 6 Then they said to Jephthah, 'Come and be our commander, that we may fight against the people of Ammon.' 11 Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and commander over them; and Jephthah spoke all his words before the Lord in Mizpah. 29 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh, and passed through Mizpah of Gilead; and from Mizpah of Gilead he advanced toward the people of Ammon.” - Jephthah was a son of a harlot, an illegitimate child. He was born as a child who was seen forsaken by God. He was born in a status and into a family who couldn’t participate in worship services.

Because of his status as a harlot son as seen in Judges 11:3, 6, 11 - He was persecuted by his family so he ran away into a land that wasn’t even acknowledged by the Jews. But something strange happened. The elders of Gilead came before Jephthah and asked him to become the head and commander of their army.

Judges 11:11 - When he heard what the elders said to him, he didn’t boast and allowed this ego to rise but he got on his knees and prayed before God. This is astounding. He was someone who was seen forsaken by God and lived a life in idolatry but despite his background and upbringing, he knelt before God and prayed. Does this mean that those who are forsaken, can they not pray before God?

Judges 11:29 - God accepted Jephthah. When we look at the chastening and discipling of God, we can see that through God’s retribution, we can still become a child of God. How is this possible? Someone who was retributed before God, Jephthah came before God and prayed. God did not forsake him but poured down His grace upon Jephthah.

Look at verse 8 once again. If you are an illegitimate child, you may not consider God at all but if you pray before God, then you can be in place of great blessings and God’s great grace.

Romans 10:13 - Whoever you are and whatever sin you have committed before God, if you call out to God, then God will accept all things and forgive you. How abundant and wonderful is our God? This God is our God. This God is our God who saved us and is our Father. Receive great blessings. There is nothing to worry about, this is because God is our Father.

2) Faith that changes us

We need to examine our faith once again. Hold onto God’s promise for us. Hold onto God’s promise that you will be saved if you call on God’s name.

Promise given to us (Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' ”, Philippians 2:6, 9 “Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name.”) - God who created us and brought us into this world was the triune God. The Triune God, even now, is working in our lives. Even if we can’t see it, the Triune God is at work. What we must hold onto is that the Triune God is working in our lives even now.

God's work in us (Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”, John 20:22 “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.' ”, Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”) - Through God’s grace, we have been restored of God’s image. We have received the blessing of God’s throne. Not only that but God bestowed the Holy Spirit onto us so that we can live a victorious life in this world. Through God’s word, He continued to give us the blessing to save us. When God guides us, He guides us perfectly.

The method to save us (John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”, John 1:14 “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.”, Psalm 103:20-22 “Bless the Lord, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. 21 Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure. 22 Bless the Lord, all His works, In all places of His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!”) - The way to be victorious in this world is by holding onto John 1:1. Holding onto God’s word is holding onto God. Jephthah was victorious because he held onto God’s word. If that is so, we must enter into prayer earnestly, then God will give us power and strength, Hebrews 4:12. When we pray before God, then God will give the great power of God’s throne moving our lives as seen in Psalms 103:20-22. The blessing of God’s throne will be upon us. This is what we must be thankful for. As I meditated on God’s chastening through the word of God, I received a lot of grace. Through God’s chastening, we can experience God’s great grace and His great plans. We believe in God earnestly but why do problems keep coming to us? Why are things still difficult? The mystery is all contained here.

Conclusion

Isaiah 55:8-9 “ 'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,' says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” - We are already in the gospel so we know what this means. Our thoughts and human thoughts, no matter what we do, we have no choice but to live according to the ways of this world. But God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts and are higher than earth. If we live our lives for ourselves and the world, then it is the path towards destruction in the end. But God tells us that His way is a way to true life and way to righteousness. We must hold onto this. May you receive this blessing in the name of Jesus Christ.
