Paul and Governor Festus (Acts 26:24-25)

Scripture: “ 24 Now as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, 'Paul, you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!' 25 But he said, 'I am not mad, most noble Festus, but speak the words of truth and reason.' ”

<Introduction>

When I was young, there was a poem that I loved reading. It goes like this, “Should this life sometime deceive you, Don't be sad or mad at it! On a gloomy day, submit: Trust - fair day will come, why grieve you? Heart lives in the future, so What if gloom pervade the present? All is fleeting, all will go; What is gone will then be pleasant.” I am sure you have heard this poem. This poem was written by a famous poet in Russia named Alexander Pushkin. There was an event that this poet experienced. This poet met a beggar in a Moscow square in Russia and this beggar was only wearing rags in the cold weather. Whenever he heard the footsteps of people, he would run to them and ask them for money because it was so cold. During that time, Pushkin looked at this beggar and said, “I am also poor. There is no money that I can give you but I can give you few poems so if you hold onto them, then good things will come to you.” After a few days, Pushkin returned to the beggar and this beggar noticed Pushkin by his voice. The beggar replied that God blessed him and allowed him to meet some great people. The beggar continued to confess that after he shared the poems that Pushkin gave to him, people started leaving him a lot of money. Pushkin smiled when he heard this. The beggar asked Pushkin what the content of the poems were and he replied, “It wasn’t nothing much but it said, ‘Winter is here but spring is not far away.’ ” This poem was nothing much but people who saw this poem, left the beggar money. When people read this poem in front of the beggar, they thought to themselves, “This beggar may be really poor and lacking but he has not lost hold of hope so I want to help this beggar out.” They saw hope in the beggar so they wanted to help this beggar. During that time, it was a very difficult time in Russia. But when everyone was having a hard time, they saw hope in the beggar and gained hope for themselves through that. They saw that this pitiful beggar had hope so they must also have hope. I am sure when they read the words of the poem that the beggar had, the people gained hope to live better. When I read this, I saw that words can give great encouragement to people. But there was something that was unfortunate in this. I thought to myself, what would’ve happened if this beggar gained a new life in Christ then this beggar could’ve lived a new life, a new start. The greatest hope of all hope is the fact that we have become children of God. In today’s scripture, we see that Paul was sharing the gospel to King Agrippa and governor Festus.

1. Festus' Spiritual State

1) Festus' spiritual ignorance

Verse 24 - All Paul did was sharing what he experienced. But governor Festus who heard Paul’s testimony, he was so shocked. He was shocked because he thought Paul had gone crazy. The reason was because Paul was proclaiming that Jesus Christ who died had resurrected and came before Paul. But, Paul was not ashamed of his words and proclaimed this testimony boldly. Paul was testifying that he met Jesus Christ on his way to Damascus and he stated that he was not by himself when this happened but other people were accompanying him. Not only that but Paul stated that this resurrected Jesus Christ also spoke to him. But for governor Festus, he could not believe in this at all and just saw Paul to be crazy. This sounded like complete nonsense for non-believers. But Festus came to a conclusion that Paul gone crazy because his high intelligence got a hold of him. In order words because Paul studied too much, governor Festus thought he turned crazy and insane.

We need to see the reaction that people have when they read the Bible. How do nonbelievers read the Bible? They see Jesus Christ as a good person because Jesus tells people to love their neighbors according to the Bible. And, the Bible also says, “But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.” When they read this, they think Jesus Christ is such a great person. Also, they see Christians as good people because Christians participate in a lot of charitable events but there is something that nonbelievers cannot accept.

There are content that only Christians and believers can understand in the Bible. It is that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came down to Earth in human flesh. How could God come down to earth in human flesh? This God died on the cross. For nonbelievers, they cannot understand and accept this. This is because when Jesus Christ died on the cross, He did not just die for the sins of the people during His time but for all people. Not only that the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ has resurrected after His death. This all this complete nonsense for nonbelievers. This was what governor Festus was stating as well. When we tell nonbelievers that Jesus Christ resurrected, they ask since He is alive, where is Jesus and that they want to meet Him. And, not only that but Jesus has ascended to heaven but they ask us how they can meet this Jesus. The nonbelievers cannot understand the spiritual world at all. Also, the second coming of Jesus Christ, the nonbelievers cannot comprehend this at all. We as believers tell people that if you accept Christ into your heart then you are saved and become a child of God. They question if they can really be saved or become a child of God by just merely accepting Christ into their hearts. Then, they question that if anyone accepts Christ into their hearts, will they are saved? They say this complete nonsense.

2) Reactions about Scripture

But there is something that even some believers cannot understand in the Bible. Only those who understand and believe in the spiritual world can understand the Bible. The fact that the Triune God is still at work even now. The fact that the Triune God is even now, fulfilling His Word. The fact that the Triune Jesus Christ is working even now to break down the three fundamental problems of mankind. There are some believers who cannot understand this. Also, the fact that even though we are so lacking and weak, the Holy Spirit is with us and working to make the impossible to possible. They cannot understand the tremendous spiritual mysteries that are given to those who are people of God’s covenant. They cannot understand how God works and answers accordingly to those who hold His covenant.

Romans 16:20 (“And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”) - Nonbelievers cannot understand this at all. People are spiritual suffering and even Christians, they are also spiritually suffering. There are so many people who are suffering mentally and suffering from stress. 99% of this world are addicted to something and this is the mental suffering that mankind are facing. What people don’t understand is the work of Satan behind this. But that is why it said in this scripture, “And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.” If we understand the spiritual mystery within this verse then our problems can be solved. The problem is that people go to church but they cannot receive healing. That is why we must receive and relay the correct gospel in our lives.

2. The Correct Gospel

1) Spiritual healing

Verse 25 - Paul was saying that he was not speaking nonsense but the truth is that, he did see Jesus Christ and Jesus spoke to him. The same response that Paul received is also happening to many Christians even now. Even now, Jesus our Lord is watching us and knows all of our hearts. When we pray, God answers and works. This is the works that are taking place right now and we proclaim the truth behind all of these works of God, and the God who works in our lives. But, there is something important here.

Acts 3:6, 16:18 (“Then Peter said, 'Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.' 16:18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, 'I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.' And he came out that very hour.”) - Peter and John were about to enter the temple and on their way, they healed a crippled man. The crippled man was asking for money but instead of giving this man money, Peter shared the answer of Christ and healed this crippled man. What we must understand is that physical healing is not the way to receive all blessings. Like I mentioned in the introduction, Pushkin wrote this poem to this beggar and the beggar ended up receiving lot of money for that. But did Pushkin truly give true healing to this beggar? What is more important than money is that this beggar needed true blessing and the blessing of true spiritual healing within his life. But many people are living their lives losing hold of this.

We need to look again at the command that Jesus gave to Paul on the road to Damascus. The command was written in Acts 26:18 (“To open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.”) - Jesus was telling Paul what would happen when Paul shares the gospel to people. People will turn from darkness to light. They will be taken from the hands of Satan to God and receive forgiveness of their sins. This is the real blessing that Paul was proclaiming. This is the way to receive true healing. Jesus did not say that you will receive money but Jesus was proclaiming that you will receive fundamental healing. That is why when we receive healing in the gospel, that is true healing that we need. When we look at governor Festus, he looked like someone who was living a very good life and succeeded but the Bible tells us that he was a nonbeliever who didn’t believe in God. Spiritually speaking, he was controlled by Satan. That is why when Paul shared the gospel to him, he called Paul crazy. No matter how successful governor Festus was, he still needed spiritual healing.

2) Gospel-based healing

Then, how can we receive spiritual healing? the Bible tells us how.

John 1:12 (“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”) - All we have to do is accept Jesus Christ. This is the gospel. All we have to do is take the gospel and believe. What is the gospel? It is John 14:6 (“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”) - This is what Jesus Christ said. The only way to meet our Father, God again was through Jesus Christ alone. Then, how is Jesus Christ the way to meet God? It is through 1 John 3:8 (“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”) - Because of our sins, we cannot meet God. Satan made mankind fall into all kinds of sin, addiction, and constant problems. This is the work of Satan. But the reason why Jesus Christ came was to destroy the work of Satan.

Not only that but in 1 Peter 3:18 (“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.”) - Jesus Christ was sent to guide us to God. The reason why Jesus Christ died on the cross was to solve our sins and fundamental problems. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He confessed of John 19:30, that He finished it all. He finished all of our problems on the cross once and for all. All we have to do is believe, then we can become children of God. The moment you believe in this, then complete change will come to your life. Truly receive blessings. Before that, you used to live a life shaking in fear before Satan but now, we are living a life where Satan has no choice but to shake in fear in front of us. If that is so, we must possess the blessing of faith. Having faith is the most important thing.

3. The Blessings of Faith

1) The faith of Abraham

The prime example of faith is seen through Abraham in the Bible. Abraham heard that his nephew, Lot was captured. When Abraham heard this, he was so shocked and went with his 318 men to save Lot. But it didn’t make sense for 318 men to win against an army but this was possible because God was with Abraham and in the end, Abraham was able to save Lot. When Abraham became afraid in front of the army of men, God who saw Abraham’s fearful heart came to him and gave him the Word of God. The Word was Genesis 15:1-2 (“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, 'Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.' 2 But Abram said, 'Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?'”). God is our shield against all things. He is our reward. When God said that He was Abraham’s reward, Abraham asked God what reward He was speaking about. Then, God continued in Genesis 22:16-17 (“And said: 'By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— 17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.' ”) - The moment Abraham heard the Word of God, he believed. It said that Abraham believed in the Word of God as seen in Genesis 15:6, 18 (“And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. 18 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: 'To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates.' ”) - Abraham’s wife, Sarah was over the age of 95 and was 99 years of age, an age where she could not have any children. But, it said that Abraham believed. He believed because he knew that if God was able to help him in front of the army of men then God will allow Sarah to bear a son.

But, what is true is that when you believe, God rewards you. Genesis 22:16-17 - When we believe in God’s Word, then God will give us tremendous blessings and reward. The moment you believe, then God said that He will reward you. As you know, Abraham’s greatest blessing and reward was written in Genesis 22:16-17. This was when God commanded for Abraham to sacrifice his one and only son, Isaac but Abraham did not hesitate and obeyed God’s Word. Why was that? It was because God promised Abraham that He will make Abraham’s descendants as numerous as stars in the sky. Abraham believed that even if he killed Isaac then God will resurrect him back to life again and also make his descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. With this faith, Abraham placed Isaac to sacrifice him but, when Abraham was about kill Isaac, God stopped Abraham. Seeing Abraham’s faith, God blessed Abraham with the covenant of Genesis 22:16-17. Abraham had absolute faith. God was so happy with Abraham’s faith that God told Abraham to look up to the sky, and He will make Abraham’s descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. Not only that but God said that He will make his descendants as numerous as the sand near the seashore. Also, God promised Abraham through his lineage, the Messiah will be born. God promised through Abraham’s lineage, Jesus Christ will come and crush the head of the serpent. When we live the walk of faith, then God will bless us with His rewards. If we keep our faith even in times of impossibility, God will even carry that out to make it possible.

That is why it is written in Hebrews 11:6 (“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”).

2) Paul's faith

The last example is of Paul’s faith. When God called Paul, Ananias was used to relay God’s Word to Paul. Acts 9:15, 20 (“But the Lord said to him, 'Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.' 20 Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God.”) - God told Ananias that Paul will be the one who will share the gospel to all people and the Gentiles. Through Ananias, Paul received God’s Word. Paul did not see those words as as Ananias’s words but as God’s Word. That is why it said that after he received God’s Word, he immediately went to the synagogues and shared the gospel. This showed that Paul had absolute faith and also why Paul had no choice but to give his full obedience towards God. That is why Paul received tremendous blessings. All of the miracles that Paul performed, those were the same miracles Jesus performed when He was on earth.

Acts 14:10 (“Said with a loud voice, 'Stand up straight on your feet!' And he leaped and walked.”) - The works of healing a crippled man and the crippled man rising up to walk.

Acts 20:10 (“But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, 'Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.' ”) - The moment when Paul raised a dead man back to life.

Acts 16:18 (“And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, 'I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.' And he came out that very hour.”) - In here, we can see Paul healing a demon possessed person.

Acts 19:12 (“So that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.”) - People were being healed by just touching a handkerchief or apron of Paul’s.

Amazing works were taking place. When we go out with faith in Christ Jesus then God will reward us with great blessings. Do you have problems? Don’t worry at all. Just believe and have faith. If you have faith, then God will become your shield. Not only that but if we have faith, we will be rewarded. Truly receive blessings. It is a blessing to be a child of God. These are the blessings given to those who have the covenant as a child of God.

<Conclusion>

Hold onto Colossians 1:23 (“If indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.”) - May you stand strong in faith. May you have hope in the gospel. If you don’t shake and falter then tremendous blessings will come to you. A problem is not a problem for us. God has prepared great blessings and reward for you. Throughout this week, may you receive blessings to solve problems that you were not able to solve until now.

모든 것은 일순간에 지나간다

지나간 것은 다시 그리워지는 것이다

이 시는 러시아의 유명한 작가 알렉산드로 푸쉬킨이 쓴 시이다. 그 사람이 겪었던 이야기가 있다. 그 사람이 모스크바 광장에서 거지 소경을 발견했다. 한겨울에 얇은 누더기를 걸치고 앉아있었다. 이 광장 구석에 웅크려 벌벌 떨다가 사람들의 발소리가 나면 가서 이야기했다. 한 푼 주십시요 내가 얼어 죽겠습니다 하고 동전을 구했다. 푸쉬킨이 한참동안 거지를 바라봤다. 그리고 이야기했다. 나도 역시 가난한 사람입니다. 당신에게 줄 돈이 내게 없습니다. 그러나 대신에 내가 글자를 몇 개 써서 줄 테니까 이것을 몸에 붙이고 있으면 좋은 일이 생길겁니다 했다. 몇 일 후에 푸쉬킨이 친구들과 함께 모스크바 광장으로 가게 되었다. 그 소경이 있던 자리를 지나가게 되었다. 소경 거지는 푸쉬킨의 목소리를 듣고 알아보았다. 선생님 목소리를 들으니까 몇 일 전에 저에게 글씨를 준 그 분인 것 같습니다. 하나님께서 나를 도와주셔서 이렇게 좋은 분을 만나게 해주셨습니다. 내가 그 종이를 몸에 붙이고 있었더니 그 날부터 깡통에 많은 돈이 들어왔습니다. 감사하면서 푸쉬킨에게 이야기했다. 푸쉬킨은 그 이야기를 듣고 미소를 지었다. 그 거지 소경이 다시 물었다. 선생님 근데 그 날 나에게 써준 내용이 뭡니까 하고 물었다. 그러니까 푸쉬킨이 말했다. 별거 아닙니다. 그 내용은 겨울이 왔으니 봄도 멀지 않을 것이라는 짧은 글이었습니다. 겨울이 왔으니 봄이 멀지 않았다는 글을 붙이고 있더니 많은 사람이 동전을 넣어줬던 것이다. 많은 사람들은 이 거지를 보면서 생각했다. 지금은 비록 이렇게 비참한 삶을 살고 있지만 이 사람은 희망을 잃지 않은 사람이다 하고 도와줘야겠다 생각하며 동전을 넣은 것이다. 희망을 갖고 있는 사람은 도와줄 필요가 있다 해서 도와줬다는 것이다. 그 당시에 러시아는 경제적으로 어려운 지경에 있었다. 그렇게 힘든 사람이 거지가 들고있는 팻말을 보면서 아 저거지 나도 희망이 있지 하는 것을 발견하게 되는 것이다. 저 비참한 거지도 희망을 갖고 있는데 내가 희망을 갖지 않을 이유가 무엇이냐 하면서 갔다는 것이다. 많은 사람들이 그 거지가 들은 팻말을 보고 다시 한 번 힘을 얻어서 살아야겠다는 마음을 먹었다. 저는 이것을 읽으면서 글씨 하나 쓴 것이 많은 사람에게 소망을 주는구나 했다. 저에게는 안타까운 마음이 하나 들었다. 만일 이 거지 소경에게 정말로 생명을 주었다면 어떻게 되었을까. 그렇다면 이 사람은 완전히 변화되고 새로운 삶을 살 수 있었을텐데. 소망 가운데 가장 큰 소망은 하나님의 자녀가 되는 것이다.

1. 베스도의 영적 상태

1) 베스도의 영적 무지

오늘 본문 말씀을 보게되면 사도바울이 베스도와 아그립바 왕 앞에서 복음을 전한 것이 나온다. 사도바울은 실질적으로 자기가 겪었던 일을 말했다. 그것을 듣고 있던 베스도는 어마어마한 충격을 받았다. 미친놈이라 생각해서 설교를 중단시켰다. 사형선고를 받고 죽었던 사람이 살아났다는건 말이 안되는 이야기라는 말이다. 그런데 사도바울은 조금도 부끄러워하지 않고 담대하게 이야기하고 있다. 내가 다메섹 가는 도중에 그를 만났다는 것이다. 내 일행도 나와 같이 있었다는 것이다. 그리고 예수님과 대화도 했다는 것이다. 이것은 꿈이 아니라 실질적으로 일어난 일이라는 것이다. 베스도는 그것을 받아들일 수 없었다. 그래서 바울아 네가 미쳤도다 하고 외친다. 네가 그것을 나보고 믿으란 말이냐 하는 것이다. 불신자들에게는 상상도 할 수 없는 얘기를 사도바울이 하고 있는 것이다. 그 베스도는 결론을 내렸다. 네게 많은 학문을 배우더니 학문이 너를 미치게 했구나. 네가 공부를 너무 많이해서 미쳤구나 하는 얘기다. 우리가 성경에 나오는 사람들을 반응을 볼 필요가 있다. 불신자들은 성경을 어떤 관점으로 읽고 있는가.

2) 성경에 대한 반응

성경을 보면서 예수님은 좋은 분이야. 원수를 사랑하라고 했잖아. 주님은 좋은 사람이야. 오른뺨을 때리면 왼뺨도 내놓라고 하지 않았느냐. 얼마나 좋으신 분이냐. 기독교는 사랑을 베푸니까 좋은 종교야 한다. 그런데 불신자들이 도저희 받아들일 수 없는 내용이 있다. 신자들만 이해되는 내용이 성경에 나타난다. 그것은 바로 예수님은 바로 하나님의 아들이셨다는 것이다. 어떻게 하나님이 사람으로 올 수 있는가. 그 분이 십자가에서 우리 죄를 위해서 대신 못박혀 죽으셨다. 불신자들은 이것을 믿을 수 없는 것이다. 그 사람이 죽었다고 왜 내가 살게되느냐 하면서 이해할 수 없는 것이다. 더군다나 예수님께서 죽으셨다가 부활하셨다는 것이다. 말도 안되는 소리 하지 말라고 한다. 베스도 총독과 같은 얘기를 한다. 불신자들에게 예수님이 부활하셨다고 하면 지금 어디 계신데 한 번 만나보자고 한다. 예수님께서 승천하셨다 하면 말이 안된다고 한다. 영적인 세계를 도저히 이해하지 못하는 것이다. 더군다나 예수님께서 재림하실 것이라고 한다. 이것은 불신자들에게 상상도 못할 일이다. 네가 만일 예수님을 영접하면 이 순간에 하나님 자녀가 된다고 하면 그게 정말이냐 한다. 예수님 영접하면 하나님 자녀가 되는건 말이 안된다고 한다. 그러면 하나님 자녀 안될 사람 어딨냐 한다. 그들 생각으로는 받아들일 수 없는 것이다. 바로 이것을 믿는 자들이 신자이다. 그런데 성경을 보면 이것을 믿는 신자들도 모르는 것이 있다. 영적 비밀을 아는 사람들만 이해하는 내용이 또 성경에 들어있다. 성삼위 하나님께서 지금도 역사하신다는 사실이다. 성부 하나님께서 지금도 말씀을 이루고 계신다. 예수 그리스도 성자 하나님께서 지금도 우리의 세가지 저주를 해결하고 계신다. 우리는 힘도 없고 능력도 없지만 성령께서 역사하셔서 우리에게 불가능한 일도 도와주고 계신다. 더군다나 중요한 것은 언약잡은 자에게 주시는 하나님의 놀라운 비밀과 신비를 모른다. 언약잡은 자에게는 되어지는 응답과 하나님께서 역사, 인도하심이 있는 것을 모르는 것이다.

롬 16:20 평강의 하나님께서 속히 사탄을 너희 발 아래에서 상하게 하시리라 우리 주 예수의 은혜가 너희에게 있을지어다

이것은 불신자들이 도저히 이해하지 못하는 것이다. 많은 사람들이 영적인 고통을 당한다. 예수 믿는 사람도 하나님 아는 사람도 영적인 고통을 당한다. 정신적으로 스트레스 받는 사람이 얼마나 많은지 모른다. 또 중독에 빠져서 고통받는 사람이 많다. 그 모든 것 뒤에서 역사하는 사단이라는 존재가 있다. 성경을 분명히 보게되면 평강의 하나님께서 속히 사단을 발 아래 무릎꿇게 할 것이라고 한다. 영적 비밀을 알게되면 문제가 해결되는 것이다. 성경에 비밀이 있다는 자체를 사람들이 모르고있다. 교회를 다니면서도 누리지 못하는 사람들이 많다. 그러므로 우리가 올바른 복음을 전하고 받아야겠다는 사실이다.

2. 올바른 복음

1) 영적 치유

행26:25 바울이 이르되 베스도 각하여 내가 미친 것이 아니요 참되고 온전한 말을 하나이다

지금 내가 이야기한 것은 꿈 얘기가 아니라 실질적으로 예수님을 만났고 말씀 하셨고 나를 인도하고 계십니다 하는 말이다. 지금도 이루어지고 있는 사건이다. 사도바울 때만 있는 것이 아니라 지금도 있다. 지금도 주님께서 우리를 보고 계신다. 지금 우리 마음을 다 알고계신다. 지금도 기도하면 역사하신다. 여기서 중요한 것이 있다. 행 3장을 보게되면 베드로와 요한이 성전 미문에 앉은뱅이를 고친 사건이 나타난다. 동전을 달라고 손을 내미는 앉은뱅이를 보면서 내가 돈은 없지만 나사렛 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 일어나 걸아가라 하고 명령했다. 그 때 앉은뱅이가 일어났다. 여기서 잡아야할 것이 있다. 육신의 건강의 회복이 모든 축복이 아니라는 사실이다. 푸쉬킨에 대한 이야기를 했었다. 푸쉬킨이 종이 한 장을 써줘서 그것 때문에 거지가 많은 돈을 벌었다. 그렇다면 푸쉬킨은 그에게 참다운 행복을 주었는가. 그 사람은 돈보다 중요한 것이 영적인 치유의 축복을 받았어야 했다. 많은 사람들은 이것을 놓치고 살아간다. 예수님께서 사도바울을 만났을 때 처음에 하신 명령을 봐야겠다.

행 26:18 그 눈을 뜨게 하여 어둠에서 빛으로, 사탄의 권세에서 하나님께로 돌아오게 하고 죄 사함과 나를 믿어 거룩하게 된 무리 가운데서 기업을 얻게 하리라 하더이다

사도바울이 복음을 전하게되면 어떤 일이 생길 것이다 하는 것을 말한 것이다. 어둠에 있는 자들이 빛으로 나올 것이고 사탄의 권세에 붙잡혀 있는 자들이 하나님께로 돌아오고 인간의 근본적인 죄 문제가 해결될 것이라고 한다. 사도바울에게 주님께서 하신 말씀을 진짜 축복을 말씀하시는 것이다. 단순한 육신적인 축복을 말하는 것이 아니다. 단지 네가 돈을 받게될 것이라는 얘기가 아니다. 근본적으로 네가 가고 있는 근본 문제가 해결될 것이다 하시는 말이다. 그러므로 우리가 복음적인 치유를 해야 근본 치유가 일어난다는 것이다. 오늘 베스도를 보게되면 총독으로서 아주 건강하고 세상적으로 성공한 사람이다. 그러나 그 사람은 불신자이다. 그는 영적으로는 마귀의 지배를 받고있는 존재이다. 그러니까 복음을 들으면서도 사도바울을 보고 미쳤다고 하는 것이다. 베스도는 영적 치유를 받아야할 사람인 것이다. 그러면 영적 치유를 어떻게 받는가. 성경에 나와있다.

2) 복음적 치유

요 1:12 영접하는 자 곧 그 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주셨으니

영접만 하면 된다. 무엇을 믿고 영접하는가. 그것이 바로 복음이다. 복음을 듣고 믿기만 하면 된다. 그 복음이 무엇인가.

요 14:6 예수께서 이르시되 내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라

아버지를 만날 수 있는 유일한 길이 예수님이라는 것이다. 그러면 예수님이 어떻게 길이 되는가.

요일 3:8 죄를 짓는 자는 마귀에게 속하나니 마귀는 처음부터 범죄함이라 하나님의 아들이 나타나신 것은 마귀의 일을 멸하려 하심이라

우리가 죄 때문에 하나님 만나지 못하고 있다. 우리를 죄를 짓게 만들고 중독에 빠지게 만들고 어렵게 만드는 존재가 누구인가. 바로 마귀가 하는 일이 아니냐. 예수님께서 오신 이유는 그 마귀를 멸하기 위해서 오셨다는 사실이다.

벧전 3:18 그리스도께서도 단번에 죄를 위하여 죽으사 의인으로서 불의한 자를 대신하셨으니 이는 우리를 하나님 앞으로 인도하려 하심이라 육체로는 죽임을 당하시고 영으로는 살리심을 받으셨으니

우리를 하나님 앞에 인도하기 위해서 그랬다는 것이다. 예수님께서 십자가에서 피흘려 돌아가심으로 말미암아 우리의 모든 불의가 해결되었다는 것이다. 예수님께서 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가시고 요 19:30에 다 이루었다 하셨다. 너희 문제를 다 해결하셨다는 것이다. 믿기만 하면 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주신다고 하셨다. 이 사실을 믿는 순간에 여러분의 모든 것이 변한다. 정말 축복받는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 그 전에는 마귀에게 벌벌 떨던 존재였지면 이제는 마귀가 나에게 벌벌 떠는 존재가 된 것이다. 그러므로 우리가 믿음의 축복을 가져야한다. 믿는 것이 가장 중요하다.

3. 믿음의 축복

1) 아브라함의 믿음

아브라함의 믿음을 보겠다. 창 14장에 보면 자기 조카 롯이 포로로 잡혀갔다는 이야기를 들었다. 그 얘기를 듣고 아브라함이 자기 가병 318명을 데리고 4개국 연합군을 쳐들어간다. 사실 318명으로 그 연합군을 이긴다는 것은 말이 안되는 것이다. 이것은 하나님께서 도와주셨기 때문에 된 것이다. 자기 조카 롯도 데려오고 다 회복이 되었다. 아브라함에게는 두려움이 오기 시작했다. 저 연합군이 만일 나에게 쳐들어온다면 위험할텐데 하고 불안해지기 시작했다. 그 때 하나님께서 아브라함의 마음을 아시고 찾아오셔서 말씀하신다.

창 15:1 이 후에 여호와의 말씀이 환상 중에 아브람에게 임하여 이르시되 아브람아 두려워하지 말라 나는 네 방패요 너의 지극히 큰 상급이니라

방패라는 것은 내가 너를 막아주는 자라는 것이다. 하나님은 우리를 막아주시는 분이다. 그리고 우리의 상급이 되신다. 하나님께서 아브라함에게 너희 상급이 된다고 말씀하시니까 아브라함이 나에게 무슨 상급을 주시려냐고 물었다. 그러니까 하나님께서는 아브라함을 불러서 하늘의 별들을 보라고 했다. 네 자손이 저 별처럼 많게 될 것이다 하신다.

창 15:6 아브람이 여호와를 믿으니 여호와께서 이를 그의 의로 여기시고

자기 아내는 95세도 넘어서 99세가 다 되어서 도저희 자식을 낳을 수 없는 형편이다. 근데 아브라함이 그것을 믿었다. 318명으로 연합군을 이겼다면 하나님이 나를 도와주시면 할 수도 있을 것이다 하는 믿음이 든 것이다. 그런데 믿는 그 순간에 하나님께서는 그의 의로 여기셨다. 믿는 순간에는 반드시 상급이 있다.

창 15:18 그 날에 여호와께서 아브람과 더불어 언약을 세워 이르시되 내가 이 땅을 애굽 강에서부터 그 큰 강 유브라데까지 네 자손에게 주노니

믿을 때 어마어마한 후손과 영토까지도 허락해주셨다. 믿는 그 순간에 반드시 하나님이 상급이 있다. 아브라함이 받은 상급 중에 가장 큰 상급이 창 22장 상급이다. 하나님께서는 아브라함에게 네 자식을 바치라고 하셨다. 아브라함은 전혀 의심하지 않고 자기 아들 이삭을 모리아산으로 데리고 갔다. 왜 그랬는가. 아브라함에게는 확실한 믿음이 있었다. 하나님께서 네 자손을 하늘의 별처럼 많게 해주시겠다고 이미 말씀하셨다. 그렇다면 이삭을 내가 죽인다고 하더라도 하나님이 살려주시고 틀림없이 말씀을 이루실 것이라는 확신을 갖고있었다. 조금도 의심하지 않고 하나님께서 약속하셨으니까 살려주실 것이 다 하면서 모리아 산에서 재단 위에 올렸던 것이다. 그 때 하나님께서 사자를 보내셔서 아브라함을 말리신다. 그러면서 말씀하신 상급이 나타난다.

창 22:16-17 이르시되 여호와께서 이르시기를 내가 나를 가리켜 맹세하노니 네가 이같이 행하여 네 아들 네 독자도 아끼지 아니하였은즉. 내가 네게 큰 복을 주고 네 씨가 크게 번성하여 하늘의 별과 같고 바닷가의 모래와 같게 하리니 네 씨가 그 대적의 성문을 차지하리라

아브라함은 분명히 믿었다. 하나님께서는 분명히 후손을 하늘의 별처럼 해주신다 했으니까 죽여도 틀림없이 살리실 것이라는 사실을 믿었다. 이것이 너무 기쁘셔서 너 하늘의 별들을 보라 네 자손이 저렇게 많을 것이다 하셨다. 뿐만 아니라 바닷가의 모래처럼 네 후손이 많은 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 네 씨를 통해서 대적의 성문을 얻을 거시다. 네 후손으로 메시야 예수 그리스도가 날텐데 그 분이 사단의 머리를 박살내겠다는 것이다. 우리가 믿음의 생활을 하게되면 어마어마한 상급이 있다. 도저히 불가능한 상황에서도 믿게되면 그것을 이루어 나가시는 것이 하나님이다.

히 11:6 믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하지 못하나니 하나님께 나아가는 자는 반드시 그가 계신 것과 또한 그가 자기를 찾는 자들에게 상 주시는 이심을 믿어야 할지니라

마지막으로 바울의 믿음을 보겠다.

2) 바울의 믿음

하나님께서 사도바울을 부를 때 아나니아가 하나님이 하신 말씀을 바울에게 전한다.

행 9:15 주께서 이르시되 가라 이 사람은 내 이름을 이방인과 임금들과 이스라엘 자손들에게 전하기 위하여 택한 나의 그릇이라

하나님께서 아나니아를 통해서 바울에게 주신 말씀이었다. 사도바울은 아나니아가 하는 말로 맏지 않고 주님께서 직접주신 말씀으로 받아들였다. 그것을 믿고 받아들임을 통해서 즉시로 회당에서 예수가 하나님의 아들임을 전파했다.

행 9:20 즉시로 각 회당에서 예수가 하나님의 아들이심을 전파하니

사도바울은 확실한 믿음이 있었던 것이다. 확실하게 말씀에 순종했다. 사도바울에게 베푸신 하나님의 은혜와 축복은 어마어마하다. 이루 말할 수가 없다. 사도바울이 행한 모든 기적은 예수님께서 이 땅에 계실 때 이루었던 똑같은 기적들이다. 행 14장 보게되면 앉은 뱅이가 일어난 사건이 나온다. 행 20장을 보면 죽은 자를 살린다. 행 16:18 보게되면 귀신 들린 자를 치유한다. 행 19:10에는 손수건에 닿기만 해도 치유가 되는 역사가 일어난다. 어마어마한 역사가 나타났다. 주를 믿고 나가게 될 때 주님께서 주시는 방패와 상급은 어마어마하다. 여러분 문제 있으신가. 전혀 걱정하지 마시기 바란다. 믿기만 하시면 주님께서 여러분의 방패가 되실 것이다. 믿는 데에 대한 상급이 있을 줄로 믿는다. 정말 이 축복 누리시는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 하나님의 자녀에게는 어마어마한 축복이 있다. 언약의 축복을 가진 자에게 주시는 놀라운 축복의 역사가 나타날 줄로 믿는다.

결론

골 1:23 만일 너희가 믿음에 거하고 터 위에 굳게 서서 너희 들은 바 복음의 소망에서 흔들리지 아니하면 그리하리라 이 복음은 천하 만민에게 전파된 바요 나 바울은 이 복음의 일꾼이 되었노라

믿음에 굳게 서시기 바란다. 복음의 소망을 굳게 붙잡으시기 바란다. 흔들리지 아니하면 이 응답이 여러분의 응답이 될 줄로 믿는다. 어떤 문제도 문제될 것이 없다. 하나님께서 더 큰 상급과 축복으로 예비해놓으신 줄 믿는다. 이번 한 주간 여러분의 모든 문제가 해결되는 축복이 있기 바란다.
