“이스라엘의 무지와 모세의 시험”

“이스라엘 자손의 기록원들이 가서 바로에게 호소하여 이르되 왕은 어찌하여 당신의 종들에게 이같이 하시나이까 16 당신의 종들에게 짚을 주지 아니하고 그들이 우리에게 벽돌을 만들라 하나이다 당신의 종들이 매를 맞사오니 이는 당신의 백성의 죄니이다 17 바로가 이르되 너희가 게으르다 게으르다 그러므로 너희가 이르기를 우리가 가서 여호와께 제사를 드리자 하는도다 18 이제 가서 일하라 짚은 너희에게 주지 않을지라도 벽돌은 너희가 수량대로 바칠지니라 19 기록하는 일을 맡은 이스라엘 자손들이 너희가 매일 만드는 벽돌을 조금도 감하지 못하리라 함을 듣고 화가 몸에 미친 줄 알고 20 그들이 바로를 떠나 나올 때에 모세와 아론이 길에 서 있는 것을 보고 21 그들에게 이르되 너희가 우리를 바로의 눈과 그의 신하의 눈에 미운 것이 되게 하고 그들의 손에 칼을 주어 우리를 죽이게 하는도다 여호와는 너희를 살피시고 판단하시기를 원하노라 22 모세가 여호와께 돌아와서 아뢰되 주여 어찌하여 이 백성이 학대를 당하게 하셨나이까 어찌하여 나를 보내셨나이까 23 내가 바로에게 들어가서 주의 이름으로 말한 후로부터 그가 이 백성을 더 학대하며 주께서도 주의 백성을 구원하지 아니하시나이다” (출 5:15-23)

서론

제가 옛날에 들었던 이야기가 생각났다. 옛날에 거울이 아주 귀한 시절에 한 시골 농사꾼이 시장에 가서 거울 하나를 샀다고 한다. 그 거울이 하도 신기해서 몰래 감춰놓고 몰래 꺼내보고 거기다 대고 이야기도 하고 했다고 한다. 그의 부인이 보니 남편이 뭔가를 장 안에서 꺼내더니 보면서 히죽히죽 웃고 하니 너무 수상한 것이다. 그래서 남편이 하도 수상해서 보다가 숨겨놓은 거울을 찾았다. 그 거울을 보니 그 안에 왠 젊은 여자가 자기를 쳐다보는 것이다. 깜짝 놀란 부인이 자기 시어머니에게 가서 울며 이야기 했다. 어머니, 남편이 저 몰래 예쁜 여자를 숨겨놓고 날마다 이야기 하는것을 봤습니다. 그 이야기를 들은 시어머니가 그럼 나도 한번 보자 하며 거울을 보게 되었다. 거기에 왠 할머니 하나가 자기를 보고 있는것이다. 이런 바보 같은 놈, 뭐 하려고 할머니를 숨겨놓고 있나 생각했다고 한다. 이게 무슨 이야기인가. 무식하면 이런 모습으로 살수밖에 없다 이 말이다. 귀한 거울이 있어도 제 기능을 제대로 활용하지 못하고 누리지 못하는것이다. 오히려 그 거울 때문에 분란이 생기게 된것이다. 우리에게 주신 하나님의 놀라운 축복이 굉장히 많이 있다. 영적으로 누리지 못하게 되면 아무 소용이 없게 되고 오히려 그것 때문에도 문제가 생기게 된다. 

1. 이스라엘의 영적무지 Israel's Spiritual Ignorance

(1) 각인된 체질 Imprinted nature

출 Exodus 5:15-16, 창 Genesis 1:2-3

오늘 이스라엘 백성들을 보겠다. 15절, “이스라엘 자손의 패장들이 가서 바로에게 호소하여 가로되 왕은 어찌하여 종들에게 이같이 하시나이까” 여기 “이스라엘 자손의 기록원들” 이라고 되어있다. 이것은 애굽에서 이스라엘 백성들을 지배할때 60만이나 되는 사람을 통치 하기 위해 그 중에 똑똑하고 쓸만한 사람을 골라 감독으로 쓰임받은 사람들을 말한다. 애굽에서 손을 대지 않아도 자체적으로 돌아갈수 있게, 컨트롤 하는 제도를 만든것이다. 이스라엘 백성들이 문제를 일으키면 기록원들만 잡아서 혼내면 되는것이다. 그런데 14절 말씀 보게 되면 애굽에서 이스라엘 기록원들을 매우 때렸다고 기록되어있다. 짚을 주지 않고 벽돌을 만들어 내라고 하는데 제대로 만들어오지 않으니 그 감독들을 잡은것이다. 이러한 상황속에서 감독들은 너무나도 억울한것이다, 짚도 주지 않고 만들어 내라 하니 짚을 찾아 다니는데 시간을 다 쓰고 일을 제대로 해낼수가 없게 되어 바로 왕 앞에 가서 호소하는 모습이다. 이 사람들이 얼마나 힘들었는지를 15절 말씀에서 나타내고있다. 이스라엘 자손이, 감독원들이 바로에게 호소하여 이르되. 호소 한다는 말이 그냥 가서 이야기 한다는 말이 아니라 울부짖고 애원 한다는 말이다. 어찌하여 이렇습니까 하는것이다. 그러면서 16절 말씀에, “당신의 종들에게 짚을 주지 아니하고 그들이 우리에게 벽돌을 만들라 하나이다 당신의 종들이 매를 맞사오니 이는 당신의 백성의 죄니이다” 짚도 주지 않고 만들라고 하는것은 너무나 억울합니다, 울면서 호소 하는것이다. 16절에 “당신의 종들에게” 굉장히 중요한 부분이다. 또 마지막 부분에는 “당신의 백성의 죄니이다” 라고 한다. 이스라엘 백성들이 애굽에 가서 산지 400년 된것이다. 그동안 그들에게 각인된 것이 그들은 애굽의 종이며 백성이다 라는 생각이다. 다시 말해 이들이 이미 400년 동안 있으면서 노예근성에 붙잡혀 있고 노예체질로 바뀐것이다. 노예근성 이라는 것은 주체적으로 살지 않고 환경과 배경에 운명이라 맡기고 사는것이다. 현재 불신자들이 흑암과 사단에 붙잡혀 살아가는 모습을 그대로 이야기 하는것이다. 많은 사람들이 흑암에 잡혀 마귀 종노릇 하며 사는것이 당연한것 처럼 살아가는것이다. 이들은 문제가 생겼다 하면 하나님께 기도 해야 마땅한 것이다. 그런데 체질상 하나님께 기도가 되지 않고 바로에게 찾아가는것이다. 하나님은 이 사실을 잘 알고 계신것을 볼수 있다. 5:1에 하나님께서 모세를 통해 “내 백성을 보내라” 하고 바로 앞에 말하게 하신다. 백성들은, 우리는 바로의 종 입니다, 백성입니다 할때 하나님은 아니다, 너희는 내 백성이다 하시며 말씀을 통해 새로운 인식을 심으시는것을 알수있다. 창 1:2-3, “땅이 혼돈하고 공허하며 흑암이 깊음 위에 있고 하나님의 영은 수면 위에 운행하시니라 3 하나님이 이르시되 빛이 있으라 하시니 빛이 있었고” 참 중요한 말씀이다. 이 땅에서 내 환경과 배경이 혼돈하고 흑암에 있다 해도 하나님의 말씀이 있으면 산다 이 말이다.

(2) 바로의 거절 이유

출 Exodus 5:17-18, 신 Deuteronomy 5:15, 사 Isaiah 40:31

출애굽은 내 백성을 보내라, 하는데서 시작한다. 17절, “바로가 이르되 너희가 게으르다 게으르다 그러므로 너희가 이르기를 우리가 가서 여호와께 제사를 드리자 하는도다”. 바로가 백성들을 보고 게으르다 게으르다 하는것은 굉장히 화난 것을 볼수있다. 그 이유가 뭔가. 여호와께 제사를 드리려 하고 있지않냐 이 말이다. 그러면서 18절에, “이제 가서 일하라 짚은 너희에게 주지 않을지라도 벽돌은 너희가 수량대로 바칠지니라”. 괜히 제사 핑계를 대고 일을 하지 않으려고 하는것 아니냐, 쓸데없는 소리 말고 일을 하러 가라 이 말이다. 이것은 바로가 제사 드리러 가는것을 놀러가는것 마냥 생각하고 있음을 알수있다. 세상 사람들은 예수 믿는 사람들이 교회 가는 것을 보고 놀러가는것쯤 생각 하는것이다. 그래서 바로는 가지 마라 라고 하는것이다. 그런데 사실 흑암은 우리가 예배 할때 어떤 일과 축복이 있는지 알기 때문에 그것을 막는것이다. 신명기 5:15에 안식일을 지켜야 하는 이유가 나온다, “너는 기억하라 네가 애굽 땅에서 종이 되었더니 네 하나님 여호와가 강한 손과 편 팔로 거기서 너를 인도하여 내었나니 그러므로 네 하나님 여호와가 네게 명령하여 안식일을 지키라 하느니라.” 안식일을 지켜야 되는 이유가 바로 피제사 통해 새생명 얻는 날이기 때문이라는 말이다. 다시 말해 예배라는 것은 그리스도를 만나는 시간과 장소 라는 말이다. 그리스도를 만나는 날은 반대로 흑암이 무너지는 날 이라는 것이다. 그러니까 세상과 흑암이 반대 할 수 밖에 없는것이다. 바쁘게 만들고 핍박하면서 일 하게 하는것이다. 예배 드리면 더 큰 축복이 사 40:31에 나온다, “오직 여호와를 앙망하는 자는 새 힘을 얻으리니 독수리가 날개치며 올라감 같을 것이요 달음박질하여도 곤비하지 아니하겠고 걸어가도 피곤하지 아니하리로다”. 하나님께 영광 돌리는 순간에 우리가 새 힘을 얻는 것이다. 말씀과 기도 통해 성령충만 받고 능력을 받게 되는것이다. 세상사람들은 도저히 이것을 이해 할수가 없는것이다. 그리스도를 만나는 시간이자 성령충만을 받는 시간이 바로 예배 시간 인것이다. 그리스도를 말씀 통해 만나는 순간에 흑암이 무너지고 질병이 떠나간다. 

2. 모세의 시험 Moses' Test

(1) 모세의 위기 Moses' crisis

출 Exodus 5:19-21, 삿 Judges 21:25, 딤후 2 Timothy 4:10, 수 Joshua 24:15

그런데 19절 말씀 보면, 모세에게 위기가 생긴다, “기록하는 일을 맡은 이스라엘 자손들이 너희가 매일 만드는 벽돌을 조금도 감하지 못하리라 함을 듣고 화가 몸에 미친 줄 알고”. 바로의 목적은 어떻게 해서든 제사를 드리지 못하게 하는것이다. 그가 화난 모습을 이스라엘 백성들이 보고 불순종 했다가는 큰 화가 닥치겠구나 생각 하는것이다. 20절, “그들이 바로를 떠나 나올 때에 모세와 아론이 길에 서 있는 것을 보고”. 그들이 죽음을 면치 못하겠다 느끼는데 모세와 아론이 나오는것이아. 신학자들이 이야기 하기를 모세와 아론이 거기서 기다리고 있었을것이다 한다. 모세와 아론이 그들을 기다리고 있다는 것은 가서 이미 어떻게 자기들을 필요로 하지 않을까 기다리고 있었다는 것이다. 아론과 모세는 얼른 가서 바로 앞에서 지팡이 기적을 보여주고 하나님 살아계심을 보여주고 싶은 마음으로 가득 차 있다는 말이다. 그래서 언제 부를까 기다리고 있는데 전혀 예상과는 반대의 상황이 기다리고 있는것이다. 21절에, “그들에게 이르되 너희가 우리를 바로의 눈과 그의 신하의 눈에 미운 것이 되게 하고 그들의 손에 칼을 주어 우리를 죽이게 하는도다 여호와는 너희를 살피시고 판단하시기를 원하노라”. 손에 칼을 주어 우리를 죽이게 한다는 말은 더 큰 위험으로 우리를 몰아간다 하는 말이다. 이 소리를 들을때 모세가 얼마나 당황 했겠나. “여호와는 너희를 살피시고 판단하시기를 원하노라” 라고 하며 하나님의 이름을 들먹인 것이다. 이 말은 즉 너희들이 우리를 속였지? 하나님 이름 사용해서 우리를 속였구나 하는것이다. 모세가 항상 두려워 했던 것은 백성들이 그의 말을 듣지 믿지않고 대적하는 것 이었다. 이것을보고 모세의 첫번째 신앙의 위기 라고 한다. 우리가 하나님의 일 열심히 하겠다고 할때 오히려 어려운 위기를 당할때가 있다. 삿 21:25, “그 때에 이스라엘에 왕이 없으므로 사람이 각기 자기의 소견에 옳은 대로 행하였더라” 하나님의 일을 계속 할 것이냐 그만 둘 것이냐, 신앙생활 계속 할 것이냐 아니냐 이 기로에 놓일때도 있다. 그러면 그 결정은 자기 소견대로 하게 되는것이다. 보통 두가지 중 하나로 나누인다. 우리가 잘 아는 딤후 4:10 말씀 보면, “데마는 이 세상을 사랑하여 나를 버리고 데살로니가로 갔고”. 빌 1:24에 데마는 바울의 동역자라고 나와있다. 동역자였던 데마가 사도바울이 감옥에 갇힌 모습을 보고 이러면 안되겠구나 하고 데살로니가로 떠난것이다. 학자들 사이에 이것을 가지고 여러 논란이 있다. 데마가 세상을 사랑하여 갔다는 말은 하나님을 떠나 지옥으로 갔다는 이야기다 주장 하는 자들이있다. 알마니아 주장은 이렇게 이야기 한다, 아무리 동역자라해도 세상을 사랑해서 떠난것은 믿음을 떠났다는 주장이다. 그런데 예정론을 이야기 하는 칼빈주의자들은 다르게 말한다. 바울의 동역자 였다는 의미는 이미 천국에 그의 이름이 기록 되어있다는 것이다 라는 주장이다. 바울이 감옥소에서 순교 당할 위기에 처하니 데마는 순교의 두려움에 빠져 빠져나갈 생각을 한 것이다 해석하고 있다. 그러나 사도바울은 그것을 보고 세상을 사랑해서 네가 죽음을 두려워하여 떠났다고 나와있다. 어떤것이 맞는지는 천국에 가봐야 알것이다. 이런 위기는 많은 사람들에게 반드시 찾아온다. 여호수아서 24:15에 여호수아가 선택한것이 나온다, “너희가 섬길 자를 오늘 택하라 오직 나와 내 집은 여호와를 섬기겠노라 하니” 어떤 일이 생긴다 해도 나는 여호와를 섬기겠다 한 것이다. 중요한것은 주님께서 우리를 부르는 그 날 까지 주신 사명을 감당하는 것을 기뻐 하신다는 사실이다. 

(2) 사탄의 전략 Satan's strategy

출 Exodus 5:22-23, 출 Exodus 4:23

그러면 모세는 무엇을 선택했나. 22절에 나온다. “모세가 여호와께 돌아와서 아뢰되 주여 어찌하여 이 백성이 학대를 당하게 하셨나이까 어찌하여 나를 보내셨나이까” 이 위기 가운데 모세는 하나님 앞에 돌아와 답을 찾기를 간구한것이다. 어찌하여, 어찌하여 – 하면서 갈등하면서 하나님 앞에 간것이다. 왜 백성들을 학대받게 하십니까, 왜 나를 보내셨습니까 하는것이다. 모세가 이 모든것 속에도 하나님을 찾았다는 사실에서 우리가 답을 얻어야겠다. 그런데 그 전에 모세가 시험들은 이유를 먼저 보아야겠다. 출4:23에 하나님꼐서 이미 모세에게 답을 주셨다, 그것을 모세가 잊은것이다. 바로에게 말하라 하시며 출 4:23에 말씀을 주신다, “내가 네게 이르기를 내 아들을 보내 주어 나를 섬기게 하라 하여도 네가 보내 주기를 거절하니 내가 네 아들 네 장자를 죽이리라 하셨다 하라 하시니라” 하나님께서 이미 모세에게 바로가 언제까지 거절할 것 이라는 말씀도 주신것이다. 바로의 장자가 죽을때까지 거절할 것이다 라며 말씀을 주셨다. 이걸 보게 되면 우리가 말씀을 포럼하고 묵상하는것이 얼마나 귀한것인지 모른다. 모세가 하나님께서 주신 말씀을 놓치고 어찌하여 어찌하여 하는것이다. 말씀을 기억하고 묵상속에 있었다면 그 말씀의 성취를 체험하고 미리 확인하는 시간이 되었을것이다. 말씀 포럼 통해 말씀을 체험 하는 시간이 되는가, 아니면 그냥 지나가는 말씀이 되느냐 결정된다. 말씀을 제대로 체험 하는 여러분 되시기를 바란다. 

3. 중요한 체험 Important experiences

(1) 이스라엘에 빛 Light in Israel

출 Exodus 3:18

말씀 보면 이스라엘에 빛이 임한다. 출 3:18, “그들이 네 말을 들으리니 너는 그들의 장로들과 함께 애굽 왕에게 이르기를 히브리 사람의 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 임하셨은즉 우리가 우리 하나님 여호와께 제사를 드리려 하오니 사흘길쯤 광야로 가도록 허락하소서 하라.” 흑암에 잡혔던 이스라엘 백성들에게 말씀의 빛이 임했다. 사단, 재앙속에 잡혀있던 이스라엘 백성들을 건져내는 시작이 된것을 볼수있다. 

(2) 애굽에 비친 빛 Light shone in Egypt

출 Exodus 5:1

두번째는 애굽에 비추는 빛이다. 출애굽기 5:1 말씀이다, “그 후에 모세와 아론이 가서 바로에게 이르되 이스라엘 하나님 여호와의 말씀에 내 백성을 보내라 그들이 광야에서 내 앞에 절기를 지킬 것이니라 하셨나이다”. 출 5:1 의 말씀 하실때부터 애굽에 하나님의 능력의 빛이 임하기 시작했다. 열가지 재앙의 말씀이 임하면서 심판 하는것을 볼수있다. 말씀의 능력 통해 애굽의 모든 우상이 무너지는것을 볼수있다. 

(3) 하나님의 빛 God's light

출 Exodus 23:14

하나님께서 애굽에 비추시는 말씀의 빛 통해 흑암의 세력을 완전히 정복 하시는 내용이 담겨 있는것이 바로 이것이다. 출 23:14, 하나님의 빛이 임하는 시간이다, “너는 매년 세 번 내게 절기를 지킬지니라” 

성막을 통해 짓고 여기서 세절기를 지키라 이 말씀이다. 성막을 통해 예배를 통해 이 축복 누리라 하는것이다. 예배,절기 통해 그리스도 만나고 치유 되고 흑암이 무너지는것이다. 예배 통해 이 응답 받으시기를 바란다. 

결론 Conclusion

창 Genesis 15:14

말씀 맺겠다, 창15:14,  “그들이 섬기는 나라를 내가 징벌할지며 그 후에 네 자손이 큰 재물을 이끌고 나오리라”. 왜 이 말씀 드리나. 지금 보아온 모든 사건이 이 창세기 15:14에서부터 시작된것이다. 이 말씀을 선포 하시고 그 이후로 하나하나 현장에서 성취 되어 간 것이다. 말씀에는 모든 답이 다 있는것이다. 모든 능력 거기서 다 나오는것이다. 해결하는 키가 바로 말씀속에 있다 이 말이다. 사실적으로 체험하는 여러분 되시기를 주의 이름으로 축원한다.

15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried out to Pharaoh, saying, “Why are you dealing thus with your servants? 16 There is no straw given to your servants, and they say to us, ‘Make brick!’ And indeed your servants are beaten, but the fault is in your own people.” 17 But he said, “You are idle! Idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.’ 18 Therefore go now and work; for no straw shall be given you, yet you shall deliver the quota of bricks.” 19 And the officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble after it was said, “You shall not reduce any bricks from your daily quota.” 20 Then, as they came out from Pharaoh, they met Moses and Aaron who stood there to meet them. 21 And they said to them, “Let the Lord look on you and judge, because you have made us abhorrent in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.” Israel’s Deliverance Assured 22 So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people? Why is it You have sent me? 23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all.”

Introduction

I remember something I heard a long time ago. Long time ago, there was a farmer and he bought a mirror. The farmer would take the mirror and would look at it, and was fascinated by it and would smile at himself while looking at the mirror. But when the farmer’s wife saw the farmer look at the mirror, smile and talk to himself, the wife thought that was so strange. The wife thought this was so strange so she looked at the mirror when the farmer was gone and when she looked into the mirror, she saw a young woman inside the mirror. The wife was so shocked by this and fled to her mother-in-law crying. The wife told her mother-in-law that the farmer was hiding a young woman and smiling at her every night. The mother-in-law who saw this, the mother-in-law asked to see this mirror herself. When the mother-in-law saw the mirror, she saw an old woman in the mirror. The mother-in-law thought that the farmer and wife were so foolish because all she saw was an old lady and not a young woman. This story means that if you live an ignorant life then your life will be very difficult. This mirror was made so that you can enjoy it but if you don’t know the treasure that this mirror holds then you will live your life in pure ignorance. But people who live like that, they will take the mirror and complain about everything. God has given us so many great blessings and if we don’t enjoy any of these spiritual blessings, then our lives will be worthless. 

1. Israel's Spiritual Ignorance

(1) Imprinted nature

Verses 15-16 - They would pick and use the intelligent and strong Israelites to be officers among the slaves. The Egyptians would control these Israelites officers so that these officers would control the Israelites. When an Israelite slave would cause trouble, they would take the officer in charge and punish them. The verse said that the officers were taken and were beaten. Since the Israelites slaves were not making progress within their slave work, they would take the Israelite officers and punish them. The officers felt so much frustration because the slaves were not making any progress and they were getting punished on their behalf. Because they felt so much frustration, they approached the pharaoh to express their frustrations. The officers were not just expressing their frustrations with just words but they were crying out to pharaoh. They were having such a hard time that they were crying out to pharaoh. 

Verse 16 - They felt so much frustration and unfairness towards Pharaoh that they were crying out to him saying that all of this was unfair. The officers told pharaoh that the fault was not in them but in his own people. The Israelites were living in Egypt for 400 years and during those years, they were imprinted that they were slaves and people of pharaoh. In other words, for 400 years, they were imprinted with the nature of slaves. A nature of slaves is that they don’t live with their thoughts and actions but they are living with the fate and destiny of their circumstances as a slave. This is the same thing when a nonbeliever is enslaved by Satan. People are living as nonbelievers and living as slaves, and living in with the fate completely captured by darkness. When problems arise, we are supposed to come before God but they have the nature to pray. So instead of going to God, they were going to Pharaoh. But God knew of this very well. Last week we saw how God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let God’s people go. God proclaimed because His people that they were not the people of Pharaoh but people of God. God was trying to change the nature of the Israelites. 

Genesis 1:2-3 “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” - This is a very important message. Your circumstances and life might be in the midst of darkness and void but if you come before God, then God will shine His light within your life. Exodus began when God proclaimed to let His people go. 

(2) 바로의 거절 이유 

Verses 17-18 - What does it mean by idle? This means that the pharaoh was very furious and angry. Pharaoh was saying that they were wanting to go to the wildness to give worship to God because they were lazy. Pharaoh was saying that they didn’t want to go work so that is why they wanted to give sacrifice to God so pharaoh commanded the Israelites to get back to work. Pharaoh saw the Israelites going out to give blood sacrifice and was using this time as their free and break time. When people of this world see believers going to church, they see it as believers using worship and going to church as a waste of time and a time for us to have a break. But Satan always tries to block the people of God from giving worship to God. 

Deuteronomy 5:15 “And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.” - The reason why we must keep our Sabbath. The reason why we must keep Sabbath is so that we can give blood sacrifice to God. Through this blood sacrifice, we were able to gain new life and have fellowship with God. Meeting God and having fellowship with God on Sunday means that, that is the day where darkness is bound. That is why Satan tries to block you from going to church and giving worship to God. 

One of the greatest blessings through worship is seen in Isaiah 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” - The moment we give glory to God, then God will renew our strength. Through the word of God and prayer during the time of worship, we are able to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit and the power of God. Non-believers cannot understand this so they are always wondering why we are spending our time every Sunday at church. This is the most important time where we can receive God’s word, pray to God, and receive the filling of the Holy Spirit. When we are able to have fellowship to God, all darkness is bound and healing takes place. 

2. Moses' Test

(1) Moses' crisis

Verses 19-21 - Pharaoh told them that they can never leave and the Israelites officers were told this, they feared that if they disobeyed Pharaoh then Pharaoh would kill them. They felt the fear of death and then Aaron and Moses approached them. The theologians interpret that Aaron and Moses were waiting for them. Moses and Aaron were waiting because they were waiting on standby to see how God will work after the officers talked to pharaoh. Moses and Aaron needed to show God’s miracle before Pharaoh and they were waiting to do all of this before pharaoh. They were always waiting on standby but instead, a problem arose. 

Verse 21 - The officers realized that their lives were at stake because of Aaron and Moses. The officers were telling Aaron and Moses were lying to them and God was judging them instead of trying to free them. What Moses feared the most was becoming an enemy of the Israelites and the Israelites going against him. We can see this is the first crisis that Moses faced. When you are determined to do the work of God, you may face a problem. 

Judges 21:25 “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” - Will I continue to believe in God or not? You may have a lot of wondering. But that decision will be determined if you become deceived or not during that process. There are decisions you can make in those situations. 

2 Timothy 4:10 “For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica—Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.” - Demas was a fellow worker of Paul. A fellow worker of Demas saw Paul in prison and departed for Thessalonica. When theologians see this, they find a lot of conflicts. The fact that Demas went to Thessalonica, this means that Demas left his faith. Even if you are a fellow worker, if you leave your faith, then you will go to hell. This is what many theologians say. But many Calvinists say something different. They saw that Demas was still a fellow worker and he would still go to heaven. Paul was persecuted and sent to prison, and Demas became fearful and fled. We don’t know whose theory is right or wrong but when we go to heaven, I guess we will find the answer. The main point here is that one day, you will have to make a decision in your life like Demas. 

Another example was Joshua as seen in Joshua 24:15 “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” - No matter what happens, Joshua concludes to serve the Lord. What is important is that until the day the Lord calls us, we must hold onto God’s mission till the end. This will please the Lord. What decision did Moses make? 

(2) Satan's strategy

Verses 22-23 - During a time of crisis, Moses went back to God and sought for God. Crying out to God means that Moses was seeking after God. Asking God questions during this time means that Moses came before God and sought after God. The problem is that when Moses sought after God, God gave him an answer. But what is the reason why Moses fell into trial? 

Exodus 4:23 “So I say to you, let My son go that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to let him go, indeed I will kill your son, your firstborn.” - God already gave Moses an answer here but Moses forgot about this. God told Moses to tell Pharaoh that if he refuses to let God’s people go then God will kill all of the firstborn. God already gave Moses an answer here and told Moses until when Pharaoh will refuse. Pharaoh will refuse until his firstborn dies. That is why it is so important for us to hold onto and meditate on God’s word. Moses forgot about God’s word and was crying out to God. If Moses continued to meditate and remembered God’s word, then he would have not gone before God and complained. When you have forum and meditate on God’s word, then God’s word will become alive in your life but if you don’t, then God’s word will become useless in your life and you will forget about God’s word. You must experience the word of God. 

3. Important Experiences

(1) Light in Israel

Exodus 3:18 “Then they will heed your voice; and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ ” - The Israelites were in the midst of darkness but the light of God shone on them. This was the time when the Israelites became freed. 

(2) Light shone in Egypt

Exodus 5:1 “Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’ ’ ” - The moment God spoke these words and Moses and Aaron proclaimed God’s word, the light started shining on the Israelites and Egypt. We can see God’s judgment through His word through the 10 plagues. We can see all of the idols of Egypt being broken down. We can see darkness crumbling down in Egypt. 

(3) God's light

Exodus 23:14 “Three times you shall keep a feast to Me in the year.” - God commanded the Israelites to keep the feast and build a tabernacle. God was telling them tor restore worship and keep the three feasts. Worship is a time for us to meet God, break all darkness, and receive healing.  

Conclusion

Genesis 15:14 “And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.” - The reason why I am telling you is because it all started with this verse. After this word was proclaimed, we can see God’s fulfillment from that day on. All power comes from God’s word. The way to solve problems is through the word of God.
