“모세의 할례받지 못한 입술”

모세가 이와 같이 이스라엘 자손에게 전하나 그들이 마음의 상함과 가혹한 노역으로 말미암아 모세의 말을 듣지 아니하였더라 10 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되 11 들어가서 애굽 왕 바로에게 말하여 이스라엘 자손을 그 땅에서 내보내게 하라 12 모세가 여호와 앞에 아뢰어 이르되 이스라엘 자손도 내 말을 듣지 아니하였거든 바로가 어찌 들으리이까 나는 입이 둔한 자니이다 13 여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하사 그들로 이스라엘 자손과 애굽 왕 바로에게 명령을 전하고 이스라엘 자손을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내게 하시니라 14 그들의 조상을 따라 집의 어른은 이러하니라 이스라엘의 장자 르우벤의 아들은 하녹과 발루와 헤스론과 갈미니 이들은 르우벤의 족장이요 15 시므온의 아들들은 여무엘과 야민과 오핫과 야긴과 소할과 가나안 여인의 아들 사울이니 이들은 시므온의 가족이요 16 레위의 아들들의 이름은 그들의 족보대로 이러하니 게르손과 고핫과 므라리요 레위의 나이는 백삼십칠 세였으며 17 게르손의 아들들은 그들의 가족대로 립니와 시므이요 18 고핫의 아들들은 아므람과 이스할과 헤브론과 웃시엘이요 고핫의 나이는 백삼십삼 세였으며 19 므라리의 아들들은 마흘리와 무시니 이들은 그들의 족보대로 레위의 족장이요 20 아므람은 그들의 아버지의 누이 요게벳을 아내로 맞이하였고 그는 아론과 모세를 낳았으며 아므람의 나이는 백삼십칠 세였으며 21 이스할의 아들들은 고라와 네벡과 시그리요 22 웃시엘의 아들들은 미사엘과 엘사반과 시드리요 23 아론은 암미나답의 딸 나손의 누이 엘리세바를 아내로 맞이하였고 그는 나답과 아비후와 엘르아살과 이다말을 낳았으며 24 고라의 아들들은 앗실과 엘가나와 아비아삽이니 이들은 고라 사람의 족장이요 25 아론의 아들 엘르아살은 부디엘의 딸 중에서 아내를 맞이하였고 그는 비느하스를 낳았으니 이들은 레위 사람의 조상을 따라 가족의 어른들이라 26 이스라엘 자손을 그들의 군대대로 애굽 땅에서 인도하라 하신 여호와의 명령을 받은 자는 이 아론과 모세요 27 애굽 왕 바로에게 이스라엘 자손을 애굽에서 내보내라 말한 사람도 이 모세와 아론이었더라 28 여호와께서 애굽 땅에서 모세에게 말씀하시던 날에 29 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되 나는 여호와라 내가 네게 이르는 바를 너는 애굽 왕 바로에게 다 말하라 30 모세가 여호와 앞에서 아뢰되 나는 입이 둔한 자이오니 바로가 어찌 나의 말을 들으리이까 (출6:9-30)

서론

천로역정에 나오는 이야기다. “크리스찬” 이 인간의 마음을 상징하는 큰 방에 가게 되었다. 그 방에는 죄를 나타내는 먼지가 잔뜩 덮여있었다. 그는 복을 상징하는 큰 빗자루로 먼지를 쓸어내리려고 했다. 먼지를 쓸어내리는데 오히려 먼지가 더 일어났다. 이 내용은 우리에게 중요한 부분을 말한다. 문제가 생겼을때 그것을 드러내면서 수습 하려고 할때 나타나는 문제를 말하고있다. 문제가 일어났을때 우리가 어떻게 대처를 해야 하느냐 이야기 한다. 먼지를 쓸기 전에 물을 먼저 뿌려야 하는것이다. 다시 말해 생명의 물, 말씀의 물 가지고 성령의 능력 통해 해결할때 완벽하게 문제가 완벽하게 제거 될 수 있다. 이것이 바로 쓰임 받을 자가 반드시 붙잡아야 할 메시지다. 

1. 이스라엘의 영적상태 Israel's spiritual state

(1) 백성들의 거절 The people's rejection

출 Exodus 6:9

오늘 말씀 통해 아주 중요한 메시지 주고 계신다. 9절에, “모세가 이와 같이 이스라엘 자손에게 전하나 그들이 마음의 상함과 가혹한 노역으로 말미암아 모세의 말을 듣지 아니하였더라” 라고 말씀 하고 있다. 이 모세가 하나님께 어찌하여, 어찌하여 기도 했을때 하나님께서는 “내가 여호와니라” 하며 말씀을 주셨다. 모세는 그런 하나님 말씀을 듣고 힘을 얻었다. 그래서 백성들에게 찾아가 하나님의 말씀을 전달 한 것이다. 그런데 뜻밖에 “그들이 마음의 상함과 가혹한 노역으로 말미암아 모세의 말을 듣지 아니하였더라” 말씀을 전하나 듣지 않는것이다. 여기서 나오는 단어를 보게 되면 이스라엘 백성들이 어떤 상태였는지 우리가 알 수 있다. 마음의 상함 이라는것에 쓰인 히브리어는 루아크 인데 여기에는 영혼 이라는 뜻이 있다. “상함” 은 코첼 이라는 단어를 사용했는데, 이는 토막내어 자르는 것을 뜻한다. 그러니까 이스라엘의 마음 상태는 영혼이 토막난 소망이 없는 상태였다는 것 이다. 이 전 상황을 다시 말씀드리면 처음에 모세와 아론이 가서 이스라엘 백성들에게 하나님의 말씀을 전한다. 하나님이 너희를 해방 시키리라 약속 하셨다, 이 말을 들을때 모세는 전하면서도 희망을 가졌다. 그리고 하나님이 정말 살아계심을 지팡이 기적으로 눈으로 확인했다. 하나님께서 모세 통해 확신 주셨으니 문제가 금방 해결 되겠구나 하고 생각했다. 그렇게 이스라엘 백성들을 대표로 모세와 아론이 바로 앞에 나가서 이야기 했다. 이 이야기를 하면 바로가 감동 받아, 아 하나님이 그렇게 말씀하셨나, 알겠다 하며 일이 잘 풀릴줄 알았는데 정반대였다. 여호와가 누구냐 하며 화를 내고 그들을 완전히 내쳤다. 마음의 상함 뿐만 아니라 가혹한 노역으로 인해 그렇게 되었다 했다. 모세가 갔더니 오히려 그것이 화가 되어 더 고된 노역이 떨어진것이다. 이제는 생명의 위협까지 느끼는 상황이다. 그런 상황에 와서 모세가 여호와 하나님이 너희를 지키실것이다 하니 마음에 도저히 닿지 않는것이다. 하나님이 살아계시다면 어떻게 이렇게 되냐, 우리가 전보다 상황이 더 악화되지 않았느냐 하는것이다. 어려움 당하는 이스라엘은 육신적인 기준으로 바라볼수 밖에 없는것이다. 영적인 눈이 전혀 뜨이지 않은 상태임을 알수 있다. 우리가 이 부분을 분명히 잡아야한다. 이세상에는 세상 나라, 하나님 나라, 사탄 나라가 있다. 이 세상에는 이 세 나라가 같이 역사한다. 그래서 우리가 잘 알듯이 현실이 있고 사실이 있고 진실이 있다. 더 중요한것은 그 사건 뒤에 숨어있는 영적사실을 보는것이다. 여기서 이 사건 놓고 무엇을 점검 해보아야 하는가. 지금 나는 과연 영적인 눈 뜨고 세상을 바라보고 있는가 점검 해보아야한다. 분명히 지금도 사탄이 살아서 역사 하고 있다는 사실을 의식 하고 있으신가. 하나님이 항상 이로부터 우리를 지키시고 보호 하신다는 사실 알고 계시나. 우리는 죽으면 천국 가든지 지옥 가든지 할 것이다. 그것을 생각 하고 계시는가. 불신자 중에 천국이든 지옥이든 그런거 없다 하며 전혀 생각 없이 사는 사람 많다. 내 삶에 분명히 하나님의 역사와 사탄의 역사 또한 있다는 사실 인지해야한다. 천국의 백성으로 사는가 지옥에 가는가 둘중 하나이다. 항상 이것을 생각하며 영적인 눈 뜨고 사는것이 중요하다. 

(2) 여호와의 명령 The Lord's command

출 Exodus 6:10-11

10절에 이스라엘 백성이 모세의 말씀을 거부하니 하나님이, “여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되”. 지난주 말씀에 여호와 하나님은 언약의 하나님 이라 배웠다. 하나님의 언약은 우리의 능력과 불신앙 여부와 상관없이 성취된다. 11절, “들어가서 애굽 왕 바로에게 말하여 이스라엘 자손을 그 땅에서 내보내게 하라” 여기서 “들어가서” 는 “침투” 하라는 뜻으로 해석된다. 두려워 말고 망설여 말고 나아가라 하는 말이다. 이것은 우리에게 중요한 의미를 준다. 흑암세력 대면하고 어려움에 처했을때 우리가 가져야 할 자세를 말한다. 벧전 5:7-8, “너희 염려를 다 주께 맡겨 버리라 이는 저가 너희를 권고하심이니라 8근신하라 깨어라 너희 대적 마귀가 우는 사자 같이 두루 다니며 삼킬 자를 찾나니” 어려운 일을 만났을때에 어떻게 하냐 이 말이다. 너희 염려를 다 주께 맡기라 하신다. 맡기시기를 바란다. 왜 그런가. “그가 너희를 돌보심이라”. 여호와 하나님, 그리스도께서 여러분들을 돌보시고 계시기때문이다. 그렇기에 우리는 담대히 침투해 공격해 들어가야 하는 것 이다. 그리고 하나님께서는 바로에게 전할 말씀을 명령하신다. 이스라엘 자손을 그 땅에서 내보내게 하라 명령 하신것이다. 무슨 말씀인가. 너는 가서 두려워 하고 무서워 하지 말고 단지 나 하나님의 말씀만 선포하라 이것이다. 이 말씀 보게 되면 다른 중요한 의미를 찾아볼수 있다. 바로에게 지금 가서 전하라 하실때는 절기를 지킬수 있게, 예배 드릴수 있게 보내달라 하라고 하신것을 볼수있다. 그런데 이번에는 이스라엘 백성을 내보내게 하라 라고 말하라는 것이다. 내 민족, 백성을 해방시켜라 하는 명령을 가서 전해라 하는 말씀이다. 지금 이 말씀 전했다가는 모세가 큰 어려움에 빠질수가 있는 상황이다. 그런데 하나님은 모세에게 너는 가서 담대히 이 말씀 전하라 이 말이다. 모세가 순종해서 하나님 말씀 전하면 모세에게 여호와의 능력이 나타나게 되는것이다. 우리가 하나님 말씀 붙잡고 승리하게 되면 우리에게 우리 능력이 아닌 여호와의 능력이 임할 줄을 믿는다. 순종 하게 될때 불가능이 가능으로 바뀐다. 이것이 중요한 영적사실임을 붙잡으시라. 분명히 우리 주님께서는 부활 하시고 살아계신다. 성섬위 하나님이 능력으로 역사 하고 계신다는 사실 붙잡으시라. 말씀 믿고 순종하고 따르는 순간에 불가능의 일이 가능으로 바뀐다. 

2. 하나님이 쓰시는 증인 Witnesses whom God uses

(1) 모세의 고백 Moses' confession

출 Exodus 6:12

고전 1 Corinthians 1:27

이 이야기를 들었을때 모세가 한 이야기가 12절에 나온다, “모세가 여호와 앞에 아뢰어 이르되 이스라엘 자손도 내 말을 듣지 아니하였거든 바로가 어찌 들으리이까 나는 입이 둔한 자니이다”. 지금 하나님께서 명령 하시니 모세가 당황해서 지금 상황을 하나님에게 설명 하는것이다. 아니, 이스라엘 자손도 내 말을 듣지 않았는데 바로가 왜 듣겠습니까 하며 이야기 하는것이다. 그런데 이 말씀 가운데 아주 중요한 단어를 우리가 주목해야겠다. 이스라엘 백성이 하나님 말을 듣지 않았는데 라고 하지 않았고 나의 말을 듣지 않았다 라고 표현했다. 정확한 하나님 말씀을 전하지 않고 나의 말을 통해 설득 하려고 했던것이다. 하나님 말씀을 사용해서 내 지식을 더해서 그들을 설득 하려 했다는 말이다. 결국은 자기의 설득이 실패 한것을 깨달은것이다. 여기서 우리가 설득과 선포에 대해 분명히 구분해야겠다. 여러분들이 하나님 말씀 받고 남에게 전할때 이 말씀을 가지고 설득하고 계시는가 아니면 그 말씀을 선포 하고 계시는가. 지성을 통해 깨닫게 하는것과 성령이 역사하는것은 완전히 다른 이야기이다. 여러분이 포럼을 할때 하나님 말씀으로 받으시는가 아니면 그냥 받은 내용을 나누시는가. “나는 입이 둔한 자 입니다”, 설득에 실패 했다는 뜻이다. 여기서 입이 둔한 자 라는 말은 원어를 보면 “할례받지 못한 입술” 이라는 말을 사용했다. 거듭나지 못한 입술을 가지고 있습니다 하는 말이다. 성령과는 관계없는 무능한 입술을 가지고 있습니다 하는 말이다. 할례받은 입술이라 고백하며 모세는 크게 깨닫는것이다. 나는 내 능력으로 할수 없다 하는것을 깨달은것이다. 백성도 설득 못하는데 어떻게 바로를 설득합니까, 다시말해 내 힘으로, 내 능력으로는 절대 할수 없습니다 하며 자기 자신을 포기하는것이다. 아주 중요한 내용이다. 하나님께서는 나의 무능을 고백할때 그때부터 일하기 시작하신다. 하나님, 나는 도저히 능력이 없고 어떻게 할수 없습니다, 고백할때 하나님께서 긍휼을 베푸시고 능력을 주신다. 사도바울은 그래서 고전 1:27 에 이렇게 이야기했다, “그러나 하나님께서 세상의 미련한 것들을 택하사 지혜 있는 자들을 부끄럽게 하려 하시고 세상의 약한 것들을 택하사 강한 것들을 부끄럽게 하려 하시며”. 우리가 하나님 축복받고 은혜받고 긍휼속에 있기 위해서는 “절대불가능 한 나” 를 발견하는것이다. 내가 좀 괜찮은 사람이지, 하는 생각 버리고 나는 하나님 없이 절대 무능한 사람이지, 구제불능이지 이런 상태를 발견 해야 하는것이다. 

(2) 하나님의 종 모세 Moses, God's servant

출 Exodus 6:13

사 Isaiah 43:10

13절 말씀 보면, “여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하사 그들로 이스라엘 자손과 애굽 왕 바로에게 명령을 전하고 이스라엘 자손을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내게 하시니라”. 나는 할수 없습니다 하는 고백을 들으시며 하나님은 모세와 아론을 사용 하셨다. 이스라엘 백성들의 인도자가 바로 여호와 하나님 되심을 나타내는것이다. 여기서 중요한것 잡아야겠다. 왜 하나님은 모세와 아론 계속 사용하시는지 알아야겠다. 하나님이 직접 바로에게 너 내 백성들 풀어놓지 않으면 저주 받을거야 하지 않았다. 아브라함때는 하나님이 직접 왕에게 말했다. 아비말렉에게 직접 너를 죽이겠다 말씀 하신적도 있다. 그런데 왜 하나님은 자꾸만 모세와 아론 통해 일을 하시려고 하는것인가. 왜 하나님이 여러분 불러서 계속해서 사용하려 하시는가. 사 43:10, “나 여호와가 말하노라 너희는 나의 증인, 나의 종으로 택함을 입었나니 이는 너희가 나를 알고 믿으며 내가 그인 줄 깨닫게 하려 함이라” 하나님께서 부르신 이유, 나의 종으로, 증인으로 택하신것이다. 우리를 영세전에 구원하신 이유는 증인으로 세우기 위해 그의 종으로 삼으신것이다. 그 이유가, “나를 알고 믿으며 내가 그인 줄 깨닫게 하기 위해”. 아, 하나님, 당신이 여호와십니다. 나를 구원하신 주 입니다 – 이 고백과 믿음 주시기 위해서다. 하나님이 여러분을 얼마나 귀하게 보시는지 알아야겠다. 

3. 영원한 작품 The eternal masterpiece

(1) 모세가 기록한 가문 The genealogy that Moses recorded

출 Exodus 6:14-16, 20, 창 Genesis 35:22, 34:25, 고전 1 Corinthians 1:28-29

여기서 모세의 놀라운 특징이 있다. 모세는 여러 문제를 대면 하면서도 탓을 바로에게 돌리지도 백성들을 책망 하지도 않았다. 대신 모세는 나는 할례받지 못한 입을 가지고 있다 한것이다. 문제를 상대방이 아닌 자신에게서 찾았다. 하나님께서 끝까지 모세를 사용하신 이유다. 하나님은 이미 이스라엘이 못되먹은거 바로가 못되먹은 것 잘 알고있다. 그런데도 모세를 계속 쓰시는 이유가 뭔가. 그럼에도 불구하고 오직 하나님만 의지 하고 맡기려 하는 중심을 보셨기 때문이다. 하나님이 기뻐 하시며 모세와 아론에게 계속 말씀 하시는것이다. 하나님의 능력의 증인으로 사용 하시는것이다. 말씀을 전하는 종으로 사용 하시는것이다. 그런데 이 내용 가운데 중요한 부분이 14절에 나온다, 여기에 모세에 가문에 대해 나온다 “그들의 조상을 따라 집의 어른은 이러하니라 이스라엘의 장자 르우벤의 아들은 하녹과 발루와 헤스론과 갈미니 이들은 르우벤의 족장이요”. 이것을 보면 르우벤의 가문에 대해 말하는것을 알수있다. 15절은 둘째아들 시므온과 셋째아들 레위족속에 대해 말한다. 여기 보면 가문을 말하면서 세족속만 이야기 한다. 그 세 족속을 말하면서 “그들의 조상을 따라 집의 어른은 이러하니라” 다시말해 이스라엘 세 족속의 최고 어른들 셋을 말하는것이다. 성경에 따르면 이 셋은 전부 문제아였다. 창 35:22 에 르우벤은 근친상간으로 장자의 축복을 잃었다. 둘째아들 시몬과 셋째 레위는 세겜성의 남자들을 도륙했다. 그래서 저주 받은 사람들이었다. 그러면 모세가 기록중에 왜 이런 가문에 대한 이야기 했냐 이 말이다. 열두족속 가운데 제일 어른되는 첫째 둘째 셋째 족속을 왜 기록 했나. 모세는 이것을 기록하면서 우리 조상들도 자랑할만 한 것이 하나 없는 족속들이다 말하는것이다. 12족속 이스라엘도 전부 거룩한 사람들이 아닌 사실 보잘것 없는 사람들 인것을 나타내는것이다. 그러면 여기서 우리에게 주시는 교훈이 뭔가. 우리도 똑같은 존재이다 라는 말이다. 그들이나 우리나 똑같은 죄 가운데 빠진 존재라는 말이다. 우리가 은혜를 받아서 하나님 자녀 신분으로 앉아있지 무슨 특별한 가문에 태어나서 특별한 일을해서 대단한게 아니라는 말이다. 20절에 또 놀라운 일 말한다, “아므람은 그들의 아버지의 누이 요게벳을 아내로 맞이하였고 그는 아론과 모세를 낳았으며 아므람의 나이는 백삼십칠 세였으며”. 아므람은 자기 아버지의 누이, 그 사람을 자기 아내로 삼은 사람이다. 아마 율법 전에는 큰 죄는 아니었던것같다. 그런데 왜 모세가 이것을 기록했나. 나도 부끄러운 가문을 가지고 있습니다 하는것이다. 모세나 아론도 부끄러운 가문에서 태어난 존재다 알리는것이다. 이렇듯 모세는 자기 모든문제 하나님 앞에, 백성과 후손들 앞에 다 드러냈다. 모세가 특별히 대단한 존재로 구별된 존재로 귀한 가문에 태어났다? 그런게 아니라는 말이다. 고전 1:28-29 말씀 붙잡으시라, “하나님께서 세상의 천한 것들과 멸시 받는 것들과 없는 것들을 택하사 있는 것들을 폐하려 하시나니 29 이는 아무 육체도 하나님 앞에서 자랑하지 못하게 하려 하심이라”. 하나님께서 바라시는것이 무엇인가. 이 땅에서 아무 육체도 하나님 앞에 자랑하지 않게 하려 하시는것이다. 오직 은혜로만 구원받은것이 우리이고 우리 가문이다. 모든것은 하나님의 주권적 은혜로 부여받은것이다. 하나님께서 우리에게 원하시는것이 무엇인가 붙잡아야한다. 누구를 업신여길 필요도 없고 그렇게 하는것을 하나님께서 기뻐하지 않으신다. 하나님께서는 모든것을 내려 놓은 자를 사랑하고 축복 하신다. 

(2) 영원한 언약 The eternal covenant

마 Matthew 28:20, 막 Mark 16:20, 행 Acts 1:8

그러면 우리는 무엇을 잡아야겠나. 단지 영원한 언약을 잡아야겠다. 그때에 작품이 나오게 된다. 모세통해 그리스도 언약속에 가나안 땅 들어갔다면 이제는 우리에게 세가지 언약 주셨다. 반드시 성취될 말씀이다. 마28:20, “내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라.” 모든 족속에게 가서 제자 삼는것, 이것을 첫번째 언약으로 잡아야겠다. 두번째, 막 16:20, “제자들이 나가 두루 전파할새 주께서 함께 역사하사 그 따르는 표적으로 말씀을 확실히 증언하시니라.” 18절 말씀 보면 믿는 자 들에게는 표적이 따른다 했다. 병든자 치료하면 낫게 된다 했다. 확실한 치유 일어나는 것을 붙잡으라 이 말이다. 여러분이 기도할때 육신적 영적 치유가 나타나게 될 줄을 믿는다. 이 언약 여러분은 확실히 잡으시라. 세번째, 행 1:8, “오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라 하시니라.” 성령의 능력 받고 나의 증인이 되어라 하는 말씀이다. 이 언약 잡고 우리는 어떻게 해야하나. 이 세가지 놓고 기도 하시라. 매일 24 기도 하실때 이 세가지를 놓고 기도하시라. 첫번째 마28:20 잡고 복잡하게 말고 간단히 기도하시라, “하나님 나 전도 하고 싶습니다” 진심으로 기도하시라. 성경적 전도 방법이 체험되게 해주세요. 이게 언약 잡고 기도하는것이다. 두번째 막 16:20, “주님, 저도 이 언약 잡고 기도할때 치유 되는 체험 하기를 원합니다” 24 기도 하시라. 세번째 행 1:8, 성령의 능력 위해 기도하시라, “오순절 성령충만의 역사가 내 안에 역사하기 원합니다. 성령께서 내 생각과 모든것 사로잡아 주시옵소서. 능력으로 살게 해 주소서” 이 세가지 잡고 기도 하는게 언약 잡은것이다. 계속 강조하지 않나, 재림을 기다리며 잡을 세가지 언약이다. 이것을 누릴때 영원한 작품이 나올줄 믿는다. 

결론 Conclusion

롬 Romans 16:27

말씀 맺겠다. 롬 16:27, “지혜로우신 하나님께 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 영광이 세세무궁하도록 있을지어다 아멘” 모든 열매마다, 되어지는 것 마다 하나님께 영광 돌리시라. 아침에 눈 딱 뜨고 먼저 하나님께 영광 돌리시고 시작 하시라. 저녁 하루 마무리 하며 영광 돌리면서 주무시라. 승리하는 여러분 되시기를 주의 이름으로 축원한다.

9 So Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel; but they did not heed Moses, because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage. 10 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 11 “Go in, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the children of Israel go out of his land.” 12 And Moses spoke before the Lord, saying, “The children of Israel have not heeded me. How then shall Pharaoh heed me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?” 13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, and gave them a command for the children of Israel and for Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt. The Family of Moses and Aaron 14 These are the heads of their fathers’ houses: The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. These are the families of Reuben. 15 And the sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These are the families of Simeon. 16 These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were one hundred and thirty-seven. 17 The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimi according to their families. 18 And the sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were one hundred and thirty-three. 19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of Levi according to their generations. 20 Now Amram took for himself Jochebed, his father’s sister, as wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses. And the years of the life of Amram were one hundred and thirty-seven. 21 The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri. 22 And the sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Zithri. 23 Aaron took to himself Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Nahshon, as wife; and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 24 And the sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These are the families of the Korahites. 25 Eleazar, Aaron’s son, took for himself one of the daughters of Putiel as wife; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites according to their families. 26 These are the same Aaron and Moses to whom the Lord said, “Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.” 27 These are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt. These are the same Moses and Aaron. Aaron Is Moses’ Spokesman 28 And it came to pass, on the day the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 that the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “I am the Lord. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you.” 30 But Moses said before the Lord, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh heed me?”

Introduction

This is a story from the pilgrim’s progress and Christian enters a large room that symbolizes the human heart. In that room, there was dust that was made full of human sins so with a dust pan and broom, this person was trying to brush all of the dust out but the dust kept getting bigger and bigger. This shows an important symbolism here. When a problem arises, when you try to judge it for yourself, this is the situation that you will face. When you face a problem, how will you try to solve it? You need to hold onto the method through today’s sermon. You need to use water so that you can clean the dust clean and without making more mess. In other words, with the word of life and with the word of God, when you try to solve problems with the help of God and God’s word then you can solve that problem well. This is the word of God that people of God must hold onto. God has given us an important message here. 

1. Israel's Spiritual State

(1) The people's rejection

Verse 9 - Moses kept praying to God and asking God what to do, God replied to Moses that “He is the Lord God.” Moses held onto God’s word and received strength from that. So Moses went to the people and relayed God’s word to them. But the people of Israel did not heed Moses’ words. When you look at the vocabulary used here, you can see the state of the Israelites here. In their heart, it was full of anguish and this meant that their spirit was full of anguish. It also said that their heart was cruel which means that it was cut into pieces. The Israelites were in a state where their spiritual state was cut in pieces and broken. The Israelites had no hope left and were broken. When I tell you this situation to you, Moses heard God’s word and relayed the words to the Israelites that God will free them. And, Moses even showed miracles to the Israelites such as the rod turning into a serpent and water turning into blood. The Israelites were able to gain great reassurance through Moses by the miracles that were shown to them. So these representatives of the Israelites went before Pharaoh to talk to him and they were expecting Pharaoh to let them go easily but Pharaoh got angry with them instead and demanded to know who this “God of Israel” was. Also, their hearts ended up becoming filled with anguish and cruel bondage. Pharaoh became more angry with the Israelites and the Israelites ended up getting more suffering as a result. To this point, their lives became at stake. None of God’s words ended up piercing through the hearts of the Israelites when Moses approached and proclaimed the words of God to the Israelites. The Israelites rejected God’s word and proclaimed that God did not help them but made their lives worse and gave them more suffering instead. Their state was in a place where their spiritual eyes were not open at all. There is a physical world, world of God, and a world of Satan. This world that we live in these three worlds coexist. That is why there is reality, fact, and truth. Among them, we must see the spiritual truth and facts. From these biblical scriptures, we must reexamine something here. Are we looking at the world with our spiritual eyes? Satan is absolutely alive and working. And, God is alive and watching over us constantly. Do you believe in this? In a short time, we will go to heaven or hell. Are you aware of this? Nonbelievers think that heaven and hell are not real, and they live their lives not aware of this at all. What is absolute is that Satan and God exist, and they are alive and working right now. When we die, there are two destinations, heaven or hell. We must always be aware of this and live in this world understanding and knowing this. 

(2) The Lord's command

When God saw the Israelites rejecting His word, He spoke in verses 10-11 - The Lord of the covenant does not care if you obey or believe in His covenant or not because His covenant will be fulfilled no matter what in the end. 

Verse 11 - From here, God commanded Moses to go in and tell Pharaoh. This has an important meaning here. When we face difficulties, what kind of posture and attitude do we have? 

1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” - When you face difficulties, what do you do? Entrust all your worries and problems to God. Entrust them to God. Why is that? Because God cares for you. The Lord God and Jesus Christ cares for you. Because of that, we must boldly approach our problems and difficulties. God commands Moses to go before Pharaoh boldly and to command to Pharaoh to let God’s people go. This means that God was telling Moses to not be afraid but boldly proclaim to Pharaoh to let God’s people go. The second time, God commands Pharaoh to let His people go out of the land of Egypt. This time might make Moses’ life in danger. But God commanded Moses to boldly proclaim this to pharaoh. Why is that? When Moses obeys God’s command then Moses will be able to show the power of God. When we hold onto God’s word and obey it, then God’s power will be revealed through us. When we obey God then the impossible will turn into the possible. This is the important spiritual truth and fact. What is absolute is that Jesus Christ has resurrected and He is alive. The Triune God is alive and working right now. When we hold onto God’s word and obey His word, then the impossible will turn into the possible. 

2. Witnesses whom God Uses

(1) Moses' confession

When Moses heard this, he responded in verse 6:12 - God gave a command to Moses but Moses was explaining his situation to God. Moses was saying that even the Israelites are not listening to him so why would Pharaoh listen to him? We must see something important here. Moses was saying that the Israelites did not listen to his words, not the words of God. Moses was not relaying God’s word but he was trying to persuade the Israelites with his own words. As a result, his method failed. From here, we must see the difference between persuasion and proclamation. When you receive God’s word and relay it, are you trying to persuade people with God’s word or do you try to relay God’s word? Do you try to use your own wisdom to relay God’s word or do you use the guidance of the Holy Spirit to proclaim God’s word? When you have forum, do you relay the grace that you received from God or are you just relaying your own knowledge? Moses said that he had uncircumcised lips which means that he failed to persuade the Israelites. When you look at the vocabulary used, the uncircumcised lips, means that Moses was saying that he possesses incompetent lips. He has a great realization here that he cannot do it with his own strength and ability. He cannot persuade the people of God so he definitely cannot persuade Pharaoh. In other words, he realized that he could not do it with his own power, strength, and ability to convince the Israelites or pharaoh. This is important. When does God start using us? When we proclaim our powerlessness to God then that is when God will start using us. When you confess to God that you are powerless and confess that only God can give you power then that is when God will start using you. 

This is why Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:27 “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.” - What must we do to receive God’s blessings and power, we must discover where we are at? We must not try to discover how great we are but we must first realize and acknowledge that we are powerless and we are nothing before God. 

(2) Moses, God's servant

Verse 13 - The moment Moses proclaimed and confessed that he couldn’t do it, that was when God ended up using Moses and Aaron. What was God trying to show them? That He was their Lord God. Why did God want to keep using Moses and Aaron? God could’ve directly approached Pharaoh and told him that if he doesn’t let His people go then God will kill him. If you remember, God did approach a pharaoh in his dream who tried to take Abraham’s wife that if he doesn’t give Sarah back to Abraham then he will die. So, why is it that God was persistent on using Aaron and Moses? Why does God want to use you? 

Isaiah 43:10 “ ‘You are My witnesses,’ says the Lord, ‘And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.’ ” - The reason why God called you is because you are chosen by God and you are God’s witness. God wants to raise you up as His witness. God called you to be His witness. The reason why was so that we can know and believe in God. We can see the great grace of God’s salvation and see that God is the Lord God. In order to give us this faith, God has given us great blessings. You don’t realize how blessed you are and how precious you are to God. We see a great characteristic of Moses here. As Moses kept meeting with the pharaoh, he didn’t try to give any responsibility or blame to the pharaoh. Also, Moses didn’t try to blame the Israelites and never complained about them. What did Moses confess to God? He confessed to God about his uncircumcised lips and showed the problem in himself. He discovered himself and saw how weak he was. In the problem, Moses saw how powerless he was. God knew how cruel and disobedient the Israelites and the pharaoh were in this situation but the reason why God kept using Moses was so that Moses could keep relying on God. God was pleased with this so that is why God kept using Moses and Aaron. God was using them as His witnesses and servants. 

3. The Eternal Masterpiece

(1) The genealogy that Moses recorded

Verses 14-16, 20 - It speaks about the family line of Reuben. There was a second son, Simeon and a third son, Levi. You see three generations of family lines here. It speaks about the three heads of the 12 tribes of Israel. If you look in the Bible, if you look at these three people, they had many problems. The first son, Reuben lost blessings due to incest. The second son, Simeon and third son, Levi, killed people and stole people’s goods. These people were cursed by God but why were their names mentioned? Moses recorded this to show that his family line also had problems. The Israelites were saying that they were chosen people of God but Moses was showing that the Israelites also had problems. We are all the same under the eyes of God. Moses was showing that we have all fallen into sin. We received God’s grace and because of God’s grace, we are able to receive God’s salvation. 

Verse 20 - Amram took his father’s sister, Jochebed, as his wife. A long time ago, this was not a crime. Why did Moses record this? Moses was showing that his family background had nothing to boast about and he grew up with a problematic family as well. He was revealing his shameful family background with everyone. Moses was showing that he was not special and showed his flaws and shame. 

1 Corinthians 1:28-29 “And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence.” - God was saying that there is no one who can boast about anything before Him. The fact that we have received salvation, this is the only thing we should boast about. Everything was given to us by God’s grace alone. What God wants from us, we must find that and hold onto it. We must hold onto that if we boast about who we are, God will not be pleased. God is looking for those who discard all things and show how powerless you are before Him. 

(2) The eternal covenant

Through Moses, the Israelites were able to enter Canaan then what is the eternal covenant that we must hold onto? 

This is the word of God that will absolutely be fulfilled. Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” - Making disciples of all nations, this is our first covenant. 

Our second covenant is Mark 16:20 “And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.” - The people of God performed miracles of healing diseases. True healing will take place. When you pray, physical and spiritual healing will take place. Hold onto this covenant. 

The third covenant is Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” - Receive the power of the Holy Spirit and be God’s witness. With these three covenants, hold onto them and pray. When you pray 24 hours, pray with these things. Pray simply. 

How do we pray with Matthew 28:20? Pray to God that you want to evangelize. Sincerely pray this. Pray that you want to experience the power of Biblical evangelism. This is how you hold onto God’s covenant. 

Mark 16:20 - I want to receive healing and want to heal in the name of Jesus Christ. Pray about this 24 hours. Hold onto this covenant. 

Acts 1:8 - Pray for the power of the Holy Spirit. Pray for the same power of the Holy Spirit that came upon Mark’s Upper Room. May the Holy Spirit take hold of my spirit, soul, and body. Pray for this covenant. This is the eternal covenant. We must hold onto these three covenants before the second coming of Jesus Christ. When we hold onto this, then the eternal masterpiece will come upon us. 

Conclusion

Romans 16:27 “To God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.” - God alone is wise and give glory to God. The moment you open your eyes in the morning, give glory to God. Before you close your eyes to sleep, give glory to God. Be victorious.
