“너를 위하여 새긴 우상을 만들지 말고 또 위로 하늘에 있는 것이나 아래로 땅에 있는 것이나 땅 아래 물 속에 있는 것의 어떤 형상도 만들지 말며 5 그것들에게 절하지 말며 그것들을 섬기지 말라 나 네 하나님 여호와는 질투하는 하나님인즉 나를 미워하는 자의 죄를 갚되 아버지로부터 아들에게로 삼사 대까지 이르게 하거니와 6 나를 사랑하고 내 계명을 지키는 자에게는 천 대까지 은혜를 베푸느니라” (출20:4-6)

서론

제가 이번에 한국에 갔을 때 택시를 두 번 탔는데 택시 운전사에게 복음을 전하게 되었다. 두 번 다 좋은 결과를 얻게 되었다. 두 분 다 불신자였다. 한 분은 지금도 교회를 다니고 있다고 한다. 복음을 전할 때 한 분은 불교 신자였는데 절에 가서 좋은 말씀을 들으면 마음이 편해진다고 했다. 그래서 제가 절에 가면 스님들이 좋은 말씀 많이 주시죠, 그런데 기독교가 불교나 다른 종교 와는 다른 점이 있다 설명했다. 모든 종교는 죽을 때 저승사자가 잡으러 온다고 말하는데, 교회만 이 부분이 다르다고 했다. 교인들이 죽을 때 천사가 온다고 설명해 주었다. 그래서 죽을 때 교인을 모시고 주님께 간다고 설명했다. 이에 본인도 그런 이야기를 들은 적 있다고 했다. 그리고 인간에게는 모두 영적인 죄가 있다는 것을 설명했다. 또 이어서 인간은 하나님을 주인으로 모시고 살거나, 자기 자신을 주인으로 모시고 산다고 설명했다. 결국 인간은 죽으면 자기 주인이 있는 곳으로 돌아간다고 설명해 주었다. 중요한 것은 예수님을 주인으로 모신 사람은 천사가 인도해서 천국으로 간다고 그분에게 알려 주었다. 예수님을 믿지 않는 사람들은 죽음의 사자가 와서 데려간다고 간단하게 설명했는데 말씀을 잘 받았다. 우리가 지금 어떻게 사느냐에 따라 천국에 가느냐, 지옥에 가느냐가 갈린다. 

1. 하나님의 치유메시지 God's Healing Message

(1) 우상을 만들지 말라 Do not make idols

출 Exodus 20:4, 32:1, 10, 요 John 4:24

오늘 말씀은 아주 대단히 중요한 말씀이다. 지난 시간 제1계명은 보이지 않는 우상을 섬기지 말라는 말씀이었다. 오늘 제2계명은 보이는 우상을 만들지도 말고 섬기지도 말라고 말씀하신다. 4절 말씀 보면, "너를 위하여 새긴 우상을 만들지 말고". 여기서 중요한 것은 "너" 가 누구인가 하는 것이다. "너" 라는 것은 믿는 자, 구원받은 이스라엘을 말한다. 그렇다면 구원받은 자가 우상을 만드는가? 질문할 수 있다. 지금 말씀에 분명히 "너희는 우상을 만들지 말라" 라고 하시는데, 이는 구원받은 자도 우상을 만들고 있다는 의미이다. 왜 하나님이 이런 말씀을 주셨을까? 중요한 것은 우리가 구원을 받아도 오염된 죄성이 우리 안에 있다는 사실이다. 구원받아 하나님 자녀가 되었음에도 옛날에 가지고 있던 나쁜 습관과 습성이 그대로 있는 것이다. 하나님께서는 구원받은 사람을 극진히 사랑하셔서 그것을 치유하고자 제2계명을 주신 것이다. 자기를 위하여 우상을 만들었다고 했다. 구원받은 사람도 믿음이 떨어지고 말씀 누리지 못하면 이렇듯 우상을 만든다. 출애굽기 32장 보면, 모세가 산에 올라갔을 때 이스라엘 백성들이 아론에게 우리도 신을 만들자고 제안한다. 출애굽기 32:1, "백성이 모세가 산에서 내려옴이 더딤을 보고 모여 백성이 아론에게 이르러 말하되 일어나라 우리를 위하여 우리를 인도할 신을 만들라 이 모세 곧 우리를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 낸 사람은 어찌 되었는지 알지 못함이니라. 여기서 중요한 점이 “우리를 위하여 우리를 인도 할 신” 이라는 부분이다. 애굽에서 가져온 금으로 금송아지를 만드려고 한다. 하나님을 금송아지로 만드는 것이다. 금송아지를 하나님으로 여기고 거기 절하겠다 그 말이다. 하나님은 이에 진노 하신다. 나를 금송아지 따위로 여기는가? 하는 말씀이다. 이렇듯 진노 하시는 말씀이 10절에 나온다. "그런즉 내가 하는 대로 두라 내가 그들에게 진노하여 그들을 진멸하고 너를 큰 나라가 되게 하리라". 내가 이 우상을 숭배한 모든 백성들을 다 죽이고 모세 너 하나로 새 백성을 만들겠다는 말씀이다. 여기서 중요한 것이 있다. 이 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님을 떠난 것은 아니었다. 분명 하나님을 믿고 있었다. 그런데 하나님을 송아지로 만들어 버린 것이다. 금송아지를 하나님으로 여기고 거기에 경배하고 절하기까지 한 것이다. 이것이 바로 우상숭배이다. 왜 하나님께서는 우상 숭배를 싫어하시는가? 요 4:20 말씀에서 하나님은 영이시라고 나온다. 영이신 하나님은 모양이 없다. 그렇기에 말씀과 성령으로 영적 예배를 드릴 때 하나님이 기뻐하시는 것이다. 보이는 하나님의 형상을 믿는 게 아니라 영적 예배의 주인이 되시는 하나님을 믿는 것이다. 롬 10:10에 영적예배 에 대한 참된 의미가 나온다,  "사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고 입으로 시인하여 구원에 이르느니라" 하나님을 믿을 때 마음으로 믿고 입으로 고백하는 것이다. 하나님은 이것을 기뻐하신다. 승리하시는 여러분 되시기를 바란다. 

(2) 우상을 섬기지 말라 Do not worship idols

왕상 1 Kings 14:9,

출 Exodus 20:4-5, 엡 Ephesians 2:2, 창 Genesis 1:28

또 4절에 우상의 형상화를 하지 말라고 하셨다. 천주교는 이 사실을 완전히 무시했다. 천주교 책자를 보면 이 제2계명이 완전히 빠져 있다. 그 사람들은 마리아상을 만들고 섬기고 예수상도 만들어서 섬긴다. 그리고 그 신자들이 그 앞에서 무릎을 꿇고 간절히 기도한다. 이것이 바로 우상숭배임을 천주교 신자들은 모르고 있다. 하나님은 영 되시지 쇳덩어리나 돌덩어리가 아니다. 돌로 아무리 잘 만들어낸들 그것이 하나님이 될 수가 없다. 왕상에 보면 북이스라엘을 세웠던 여로보암 왕이 신상을 만들어 섬긴다. 북이스라엘 사람들은 금송아지 신상을 섬기며 진실로 하나님을 섬기고 있다고 생각한 것이다. 이에 하나님께서 왕상 14:9에 말씀 하시는 내용이 나온다, "네 이전 사람들보다도 더 악을 행하고 가서 너를 위하여 다른 신을 만들며 우상을 부어 만들어 나를 노엽게 하고 나를 네 등 뒤에 버렸도다". 분명히 하나님으로 알고 믿는다 하며 그 앞에 절한 것인데 하나님께서는 다른 신을 만들어 우상으로 섬겼다고 진노하시는 것이다. 이런 것을 볼 때 천주교가 참 많이 걱정이 된다. 또 5절 말씀을 보면, "그것들에게 절하지 말며," 만들어 놓고 절하는 것이다. 믿는 사람들 중에도 조상에게 제사를 드리는 사람들이 아직 많다. 또 명상원에 찾아가기도 한다. 부처상 앞에서 명상하거나 기도하는 사람들도 있다. 에베소서에서 "전에는 우리도 다 그 가운데서 우리 육체의 욕심을 따라 지내며 육체와 마음이 원하는 것을 하여 다른 이들과 같이 본질상 진노의 자녀였더니" 라고 표현한다. 이것은 모두 속고 있는 것이다. 또 주님께서 5절에서 "그것들을 섬기지 말라" 하신다. 돌과 쇳덩어리로 우상을 형상화해서 섬기고 있는 모습이다. 하나님은 우리를 그렇게 창조하시지 않았다. 창세기 1:28에 "하나님이 그들에게 복을 주시며 그들에게 이르시되 생육하고 번성하여 땅에 충만하라, 땅을 정복하라, 바다의 고기와 공중의 새와 땅에 움직이는 모든 생물을 다스리라" 하셨다. 우리는 온 세상 만물 다스릴 통취권을 가졌는데 마귀에 속해져 거기에 절하는 모습이다. 우리가 참된 정체성을 찾아야 할 이유다. 그것이 하나님의 실체가 아니며 우상 숭배하는 행위임을 깨달아야 한다. 5절 말씀에 또 하나 붙잡을 것은 "네 하나님 여호와는 질투하는 하나님인즉" 이다. 출애굽기에도 하나님이 질투하는 하나님이라고 나온다. 여기서 질투라는 단어의 원어로 "카나" 라는 말이 사용되었다. 이는 세상 사람들의 질투와는 다르다, 오직 여호와 하나님이 하시는 구체적인 질투를 말한다. 그러면 이것은 어떠한 모양의 질투인가? 놀라운 사랑으로 우리를 뜨겁게 사랑하시기 때문에 우리를 해하는 우상을 섬기지도 사랑하시지도 말라고 말씀하시는 것이다. 신명기 4:24에 이 단어가 또 한번 나온다, "네 하나님 여호와는 소멸하는 불이시요 질투하는 하나님이시니라. " 여기서는 "엘카나" 라는 원어가 사용 되었다. 인간이 우상을 숭배할 때 하나님의 질투로 소멸하는 불의 놀라운 역사가 일어나는 것이다. 우리도 너무 화가 나면 얼굴이 불타는 것처럼 타오른다. 하나님이 바로 그럴 정도로 우리를 뜨겁게 사랑하신다. 마치 예를 들면 내 사랑하는 자녀가 다리 밑에 사는 거지에게 찾아가 그에게 복을 달라며 비는 꼴이다. 다리 밑에 있는 거지는 그나마 사람이라 낫지, 사람도 아닌 돌이나 쇳덩어리를 만들고서는 그에 절하는 모습을 하나님이 보면 진노할 수밖에 없는 것이다. 그런 모습을 보시고 너무나 안타까워 얼굴이 붉어지는 하나님을 설명하는 것이다. 질투의 하나님을 통해서 우리가 뜨거운 하나님의 사랑을 깨달아야겠다. 우리를 너무 사랑하셔서 우리 죄 문제 해결을 위해 자기 아들까지 십자가에 못 박히신 하나님이다. 바로 그런 하나님이 우리에게 너희는 우상을 만들지도 섬기지도 말라고 하시는 것이다. 

2. 하나님의 놀라운 사랑 God's Amazing Love

(1) 하나님의 질투 God's Jealousy

출 Exodus 34:14,

신 Deuteronomy 14:24, 마 Matthew 22:37

그렇다면 우리는 어떻게 해야 하는가. 마태복음 22:37에 말씀하신다, "예수께서 이르시되 네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 하셨으니". 우리를 극진하게 사랑하시는 하나님만을 바라보고 경배해야 하는 것이다. 마음을 다하고 생명을 다하고 뜻을 다해 하나님께 영광을 돌리며 사랑해야 한다. 여기서 우리가 꼭 잡을 것은 5절 마지막에, "나를 미워하는 자의 죄를 갚되 아버지로부터 아들에게로 삼사 대까지 이르게 하거니와". 우리가 우상을 숭배하게 되면 우리만 망하는 게 아니라 우리 후손 3, 4대까지 망하게 되는 것이다. 사탄은 우리를 두고 어떻게 하면 예배를 드리지 못하게 하고 예수님을 믿지 못하게 할까에 온 초점을 두고 있다. 모든 유혹을 다 던진다. 마 4:9 보면 사탄은 심지어 예수님까지 유혹한다. "이르되 만일 내게 엎드려 경배하면 이 모든 것을 네게 주리라". 십자가에 못박혀 죽을 필요 없어, 내게 경배 하면 내가 그 모든것을 줄게 유혹 한 것이다. 예수님을 유혹했던 사탄은 지금도 살아서 우리를 유혹하고 있다. 네가 나를 따르고 경배하게 되면 네게 모든 것을 다 줄게, 예배 드리지 마, 예수 믿지 마 하는 것이다. 많은 사람들이 이에 속아 세상 물질이 중요하다고 생각해 하나님을 떠난다. 사탄은 요 10:10에 속하며 도둑질하러 오는 자라고 말한다. 거짓의 아비인 것이다.  엡 2:3 말씀을 보면 우상 숭배자들, 하나님을 떠난 자들을 본질상 진노의 자녀라고 표현한다. "{전에는 우리도 다 그 가운데서 우리 육체의 욕심을 따라 지내며 육체와 마음이 원하는 것을 하여 다른 이들과 같이 본질상 진노의 자녀였더니". 세상을 쫓아가는 자는 하나님의 진노 아래에 있는 것이다. 양쪽에서 얻어맞는 것이다. 모든 어려움에 당할 뿐만 아니라 이 저주가 후손에게까지 가게 된다. 제가 옛날에 무당을 만난 적이 있다. 무당의 제일 큰 걱정은 자기 자녀와 손주들이 같은 길을 걷게 되는 것이라고 했다. 귀신들이 실제로 그 후손들까지 무당으로 만드려고 여러 방법으로 괴롭힌다고 한다. 분명히 하나님 말씀대로 3-4대까지 그 죄를 찾겠다는 것이다. 우리는 오직 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하고 생명을 다해 하나님을 섬기는 것만이 승리하는 길이다. 6절, "나를 사랑하고 내 계명을 지키는 자에게는 천 대까지 은혜를 베푸느니라". 하나님께서는 결론적으로 이 말씀을 하시기 위해 2계명을 주신 것이다. 너희들은 말만 들으면 천 대까지 은혜를 줄게라며 사랑의 말씀을 주시는 것이다. 실제로 이러한 축복 속에 있는 사람이 있다.   

(2) 저주와 축복 Curse and Blessing

출 Exodus 20:6,

마 Matthew 4:9, 엡 Ephesians 2;3, 창 Genesis 12:1-3

창세기 12:1-3에 아브라함에게 본토 친척 아비집을 떠나 내가 약속한 땅으로 가라고 명하신다. 갈대 아우르는 우상 숭배가 창궐하는 곳이었다. 너는 여기서 떠나라 하신 것이다. 아브라함의 축복은 우상의 도시에서 떠나면서 시작된 것이다. 우상으로부터 떠나 주님 앞에 돌아간 순간 하나님의 축복이 임하는 것이다. 수많은 사람들이 전부 다 우상에 붙잡혀 있다. 전 세계 어디를 가도 우상이 없는 나라는 없다. 참 놀라운 현상이다. 사람들이 거의 살지 않는 오지에 가도 거기에도 어떠한 종류의 우상이 있다. 사단이 이렇게 전 세계를 흑암으로 몰고 가고 있다. 두가지 기억해야한다. "내 계명을 지키는 자에게는 천대까지 축복하겠다." 너무나 간단한 축복의 비밀 주셨다. 우상 섬기지 않고 내 계명을 지키면 천대까지 축복하겠다는 말씀이다. 또 우리는 확실한 언약 잡아야겠다. 

3. 확실한 언약 A Sure Covenant

(1) 진짜 기도를 알아야 You Must Know True Prayer

사 Isaiah 6:1

먼저 우리가 알 것은 "진짜 기도" 이다. 이사야서 6:1, "웃시야 왕이 죽던 해에 내가 본즉 주께서 높이 들린 보좌에 앉으셨는데 그의 옷자락은 성전에 가득하였고" 이사야의 환상속에 하나님께서 보좌에 앉으신 모습을 본 것이다. 하늘 보좌에 앉으셔서 우리의 기도를 낯낯히 듣고 계시고 응답 주시기를 기다리시는 모습을 본 것이다. 우리를 너무 사랑하시고 우리의 기도를 기다리시는 모습을 본 것이다. 또 믿는자들에게 사람들 살리라는 미션을 주신다. 

(2) 복음의 능력을 알아야 You Must Know the Power of the Gospel

출 Exodus 12:29

다음으로 누릴 것은 복음의 능력을 누리는 것이다. 출 12:29, "밤중에 여호와께서 애굽 땅에서 모든 처음 난 것 곧 왕위에 앉은 바로의 장자로부터 옥에 갇힌 사람의 장자까지와 가축의 처음 난 것을 다 치시매". 이 복음을 알아야한다. 양의 피 통해 나타난 것이다. 십자가 그리스도의 영적예배 통해 우리가 모든 능력 회복 하게 되는 것이다. 하나님은 능력 주시기 위해 복음만 잡아라, 말씀만 잡아라 하신다. 

(3) 말씀의 능력을 알아야 You Must Know the Power of the Word

사 Isaiah 40:8

이사야서 40:8에 풀은 마르고 꽃은 시드나 하나님 말씀은 영영히 서리라 하신다. 오늘 말씀은 영원한 말씀이다. 반드시 성취될 말씀이라는 말이다. 이 말씀 붙잡고 기도할때 하나님께서 천대까지 축복 주실것이다. 말씀 맺겠다. 우리는 파수꾼으로서의 사명을 붙잡아야겠다. 

Conclusion

파수꾼의 사명(사60:1) The Mission of the Watchman (Isaiah 60:1)

사 60:1, "일어나라 빛을 발하라 이는 네 빛이 이르렀고 여호와의 영광이 네 위에 임하였음이니라" 우리 속에는 흑암이 아닌 빛이 있다는 말씀이다. 우리 안에 빛을 발하시기 발한다. 말씀 증거할때 이 빛이 발하는 것이다. 우리가 말씀 전할때 하나님 영광이 임하게 되는 것이다. 이 축복 누리시는 여러분 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원한다.

4 You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Introduction

When I visited Korea, I rode the taxis twice and I shared the gospel to the taxi drivers. During those two times, I had good conversations with those drivers. These taxi drivers, they were unbelievers and one of them, I heard that they were going to buddhist temples. I asked this taxi driver what he does when he goes to the buddhist temples and he says that he hears good stories that gives him peace in his heart. I told the taxi driver that it is good that these buddhist monks tell you good stories but there is a difference between the gospel and other religions. All other religions, when you die, the angel of death will come find you but those who are Christians, it is different. When you die, the angel comes to find you. The angel will come and take you up to God when you die. The taxi driver said that he heard that before so I asked the taxi driver, when you die, the angel of death will come to you. I also told the taxi driver that every man has a master; they either have the master of God or a master who is not God. When you die, you will return to your master. Whether you go to heaven or hell, you will go to one of them when you die. If you serve God as your master then the angel will take you up to heaven. Those who don’t believe in God, the angel of death will come to you. I told this very simply to the taxi drivers and the results of the conversation were good. Our resurrected Jesus Christ is alive and with us, and God is with us. How we live our lives is so important because it will determine if you will go to heaven or hell. Today’s sermon is so important. Last week we spoke about the things that we cannot see and the idols that we can’t see with our eyes. 

1. God's Healing Message

(1) Do not make idols

Verse 4 - Who is this scripture referring to? This means those who are believers of God. If that is so, then those who are believers, are they capable of having idols? God said that even believers are capable of making and building idols. Why did God say this to His people, the believers? What is important is that even though we are saved, there are old masters inside of us and our old nature still exists within us. Our old nature and habits still exist within us. God loves His people so much that He wants to heal us that we gave us this word. We make idols for ourselves. If we lose hold of the word of God and lose faith, then we end up making idols. 

Exodus 32:1, 10 “Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, ‘Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ 10 Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.’ ” - The Israelites gathered all of the gold together and made themselves an idol. They made this golden calf into their idol, their god. God was furious when He saw this. God asked them if they thought that He was this golden calf. 

Exodus 32:10 - God said that He was so furious that He would kill all of the Israelites, and make a new nation with Moses. We have to understand that the Israelites didn’t leave God and they still believed in God but they made God into a golden calf. They made God into a golden calf and bowed down to it. This is idol worship. Why was God so furious with this and distasteful? 

John 4:24 “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” - God who is Spirit, He does not have an image. Because God is Spirit, we worship Him in Spirit and truth. God is a being that we cannot see with our eyes. That is why we worship in spirit.

Romans 10:10 “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” - This talks about what worship is. We believe God with our hearts and give worship to God with praise. God is pleased with this. Let us have victory. 

(2) Do not worship idols

Verse 4 - Catholics ignore the commandment that says not to worship idols. There is a book that Catholics read and study, and they have omitted the second commandment. Why is that? Because they worship Mary and make idols out of her. They bow down and worship Mary and her statue. This is idol worship and many Catholics do not know about this. God is Spirit and He does not have a physical form. Just because you make a form out of God, it does not make Him God. 

1 Kings 14:9 “But you have done more evil than all who were before you, for you have gone and made for yourself other gods and molded images to provoke Me to anger, and have cast Me behind your back.” - King Jeroboam made an idol and told people to worship this idol as God. But how did God respond to this? He responds in this scripture. What is absolute is that they said that they believed and worshiped God but God was furious that they made an idol out of Him. When I think about this, I worry a lot about Catholics. 

Verse 5 - They would make idols and worship them. There are many believers who believe in God but they participate in ancestral worship. 

Ephesians 2:2 “In which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.” - People may say that there should be no problem as long as they believe in God in their heart and that should be sufficient. They say that it is okay to go to church and also participate in ancestral worship services. But this is how people are deceived. God absolutely says not to serve idols. They are people who are building these images of “God” and worshiping it. But this was not how God created us. 

Genesis 1:28 “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’ ” - We possess authority and power to have authority over all things of this world. But when we became deceived by Satan, we ended up becoming enslaved to this world. We need to realize our true identity. We need to realize that the things that we serve are idols and we need to know who God truly is. 

2. God's Amazing Love

(1) God's Jealousy

Verse 5 - Our God is a jealous God. 

Exodus 34:14 “For you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” - When we look in the Bible, God is a jealous God. His name also shows that He is a jealous God. This is different from the jealousy that this world knows. The jealousy that is shown within the name of God is different. What kind of meaning does it show when it says that God is a jealous God. The fact that He is a jealous God means that God loves us so much. God loves us so much that we need to only worship and love God.

Deuteronomy 4:24 “For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.” - Our God who is a jealous God but we need to hold onto something here. Our God is a consuming fire jealous God. When we worship idols, there is a fury fire that will grow within God. When you are mad, your face turns red. This is the same thing that happens to God, He loves us so much that His body is filled with consuming fire of love for us. When God sees you worship idols, God is filled with so much jealousy and the fire within Him starts overflowing. God loves you so much that He sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. God loves us so much that He wants us to worship Him alone. What should we do? 

Matthew 22:37 “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ ” - God who loves us so much, God wants us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, and mind. What God wants from us is to love Him back with the same amount of consuming fire of love. 

(2) Curse and Blessing

Verse 5 - When we worship idols, it doesn’t just affect us but it affects our children. Satan’s goal is to prevent people from believing in God and making sure we don’t give proper worship to God. This is so that we will live a destroyed life and our children will be destroyed as well. 

Matthew 4:9 “And he said to Him, ‘All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.’ ” - Satan even tried to tempt Jesus. Satan tempts Jesus that He doesn’t need to die on the cross and Satan will give Him everything if Jesus bows down to Satan. This Satan who even tried to tempt Jesus, Satan is also going around to tempt us with the same strategy. Satan tempts mankind saying that if you worship him then he “promises” us that he will give us everything of this world. There are so many people in this world who are being tempted by Satan. 

John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” - Hold onto this. Satan doesn’t know anything about blessings. All Satan does is lie. 

Ephesians 2:3 “Among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.” - Those who worship idols and are separated from God, you are children of wrath. Those who follow after Satan, they are children of wrath and they will be destroyed. If you say that you believe in God but don’t give proper worship to God, you are being pushed around on both sides by Satan and God. This suffering doesn’t end with you but your children will face the same fate as you. I met with a shaman a long time ago and the greatest worry that this shaman had was that her children and grandchildren would become shamans like her. This shaman told me that the evil spirit constantly visits her children and grandchildren to make them shamans as well. This is true, your problems and curses will go down to your children and future generations. That is why we must worship and love God alone and this is the way to victory. 

Verse 6 - If we keep God’s word, then God promised that He will bless us and our thousand years of generations. 

This really did happen for Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the Lord had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ ” - For Abraham, the place that he lived in was a nation of idolatry. That is why God told Abraham to leave his country of idolatry. Abraham was blessed tremendously because he left idolatry. This is the same thing for us, when we discard our idols then blessings will come upon us. So many people are bound by idolatry. There is not a single nation that does not worship idols. This is unfortunate. Even desolate nations worship idols. This shows that Satan has completely seized the world and people. We must share this truth. 

Verse 6 - God gave us a simple method on how to receive blessings. If we don’t worship idols and keep God’s commandments, then God will bless us thousands. May we receive these blessings. 

3. A Sure Covenant

(1) You Must Know True Prayer

Isaiah 6:1 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.” - Isaiah saw God sitting on the throne of God and saw God listening to our prayers. God is waiting to give us answers. God loves us so much and knows all of our concerns. Those who believe God gave us a mission to save those who are having a hard time. 

(2) You Must Know the Power of the Gospel

Exodus 12:29 “And it came to pass at midnight that the Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock.” - We must know this gospel. Through the blood of the young lamb on the cross and when we worship God, then we will be able to restore all power. If we hold onto the gospel, then God will give us these blessings and power. 

(3) You Must Know the Power of the Word

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” - The word that God gave to us today stands forever. This means that the word of God will be fulfilled absolutely. When we hold onto God’s word and pray, then God will fulfill His word through us and bless us thousands. 

Conclusion

The Mission of the Watchman (Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”) - There is no darkness within us but we possess the light of life within us. May we shine this light. When we relay the word of God then we can shine this light. When we relay the word of God then we can see the glory of God. May we receive these blessings in the name of Jesus Christ.
