이스라엘 자손의 온 회중이 엘림에서 떠나 엘림과 시내 산 사이에 있는 신 광야에 이르니 애굽에서 나온 후 둘째 달 십오일이라 2 이스라엘 자손 온 회중이 그 광야에서 모세와 아론을 원망하여 3 이스라엘 자손이 그들에게 이르되 우리가 애굽 땅에서 고기 가마 곁에 앉아 있던 때와 떡을 배불리 먹던 때에 여호와의 손에 죽었더라면 좋았을 것을 너희가 이 광야로 우리를 인도해 내어 이 온 회중이 주려 죽게 하는도다 4 그 때에 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 보라 내가 너희를 위하여 하늘에서 양식을 비 같이 내리리니 백성이 나가서 일용할 것을 날마다 거둘 것이라 이같이 하여 그들이 내 율법을 준행하나 아니하나 내가 시험하리라 5 여섯째 날에는 그들이 그 거둔 것을 준비할지니 날마다 거두던 것의 갑절이 되리라 6 모세와 아론이 온 이스라엘 자손에게 이르되 저녁이 되면 너희가 여호와께서 너희를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내셨음을 알 것이요 7 아침에는 너희가 여호와의 영광을 보리니 이는 여호와께서 너희가 자기를 향하여 원망함을 들으셨음이라 우리가 누구이기에 너희가 우리에게 대하여 원망하느냐 8 모세가 또 이르되 여호와께서 저녁에는 너희에게 고기를 주어 먹이시고 아침에는 떡으로 배불리시리니 이는 여호와께서 자기를 향하여 너희가 원망하는 그 말을 들으셨음이라 우리가 누구냐 너희의 원망은 우리를 향하여 함이 아니요 여호와를 향하여 함이로다 9 모세가 또 아론에게 이르되 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중에게 말하기를 여호와께 가까이 나아오라 여호와께서 너희의 원망함을 들으셨느니라 하라 10 아론이 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중에게 말하매 그들이 광야를 바라보니 여호와의 영광이 구름 속에 나타나더라 11 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되 12 내가 이스라엘 자손의 원망함을 들었노라 그들에게 말하여 이르기를 너희가 해 질 때에는 고기를 먹고 아침에는 떡으로 배부르리니 내가 여호와 너희의 하나님인 줄 알리라 하라 하시니라

서론

박정희 대통령의 아들 박지만에 대한 이야기다. 1974년에 어머니 유경숙 여사가 총에 맞아 돌아가시게 되었다. 5년이 지난 1979년에 아버지 박정희 대통령도 총에 맞아 돌아가셨다. 그 아들 박지만은 모든 소망을 잃게 되었다. 그는 술과 마약이 없이는 살 수가 없게 되었다. 마약중독에 빠져 감옥소에 다섯번이나 들어갔다. 감옥소에 왔다갔다 하면서 한가지 깨달음을 얻었다고 한다. 내 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 교회에 가야겠구나. 그런데 자기를 전도 하거나 교회 가자고 하는 사람이 단 한명도 없었다고 한다. 마침 자기 아버지를 존경하고 따랐던 포항제철의 박태준 회장이 떠올랐다. 그가 다니는 교회를 따라 나가기 시작했다. 하나님께서 박지만씨를 사랑 하셨던것 같다. 그가 교회 다니면서 하나님을 만나게 된것이다. 13년동안 마약 중독에 빠져 헤어나오지 못했는데 드디어 빠져 나오게 되었다고 한다. 모든것을 다 끊게 되었고 아내를 만나 결혼도 하게 되었다. 그런데 박지만씨 아내 되는 서향희 라는 사람은 원래 불교신자 였다고 한다. 변호사로 아주 똑똑한 사람 이었다. 남편의 하는 말을 듣고 본인도 교회 다니겠다고 한것이다. 남편을 통해 구원 얻은것이다. 하나님이 이 가정을 축복 하신것이다. 그렇게 네 아들을 얻었는데 얼마전에 큰아들이 해병대에 가 훈련 잘 받고 제대 했다고 나왔다. 근본문제 해결할수 있는 유일한 방법이 그리스도 라는 것을 박지만은 깨달은것이다. 과거에 붙잡혀 있지 않고 그리스도를 만나 새롭게 변화된 모습이 이 사람 가운데 나타난 것을 볼 수가 있다. 

1. 신 광야에서의 은혜 Grace in the Wilderness of Sin

(1) 과거를 찾는 백성 The People Longing for the Past

출 Exodus 16:1-3, 벧후 2 Peter 2:22

오늘 말씀은 우리에게 대단히 중요한 메시지 주고 계신다. 1절, “이스라엘 자손의 온 회중이 엘림에서 떠나 엘림과 시내 산 사이에 있는 신 광야에 이르니 애굽에서 나온 후 둘째 달 십오일이라”. 아주 중요한 내용이 있다. 엘림 이라는곳에 지난 시간에 말씀 드렸다시피 오아시스가 있었다. 이 행복했던 오아시스에서 떠나야만 하는 백성들이다. 왜냐, 하나님께서 계획하신 목적지는 가나안 이었지 엘림이 아니었다. 아주 중요한 의미를 가지고 있다. 우리가 자녀를 키우다보면 어리고 예쁠때 생각 하면서 아 이대로 쭉 있었으면 좋겠다는 생각도 한다. 그런데 성장이 거기서 멈추면 안된다. 자라서 성숙한 신앙인이 되어야 하는것이다. 우리 신앙생할도 마찬가지로 구원받은데서 끝나면 안된다. 처음에는 구원에 감격에 차 있다. 영접을 하면 갓 태어난 신생아 같은것이다. 신앙생활 통해 쭉 성장 해야 하는것이다. 그렇게 성숙한 하나님 자녀가 되도록 도와야한다. 그렇게 광야에 다시 나아가는 이스라엘이다. 1절, “시내 산 사이에 있는 신 광야에 이르니 애굽에서 나온 후 둘째 달 십오일이라” 첫쨋달 15일에 람세스에서 출발 한 것이다. 그러니까 출발한지 꼭 한달이 된것이다. 이것은 그동안 애굽에서 나올때 챙겨왔던 모든 양식이 떨어졌다는 것을 의미한다. 음식이 떨어지니 2절에 사건이 터진다, “이스라엘 자손 온 회중이 그 광야에서 모세와 아론을 원망하여”. 사실상 그럴수밖에 없는 상황이 된것이다. 애굽에 나와 홍해를 건넜는데 광야길 가는동안 먹을것이 전부 떨어진것이다. 아무리 둘러봐도 먹을게 보이지 않았다. 거기서 농사를 지을수도 없는 상황이었다. 그렇게 점점 원망의 마음이 들기 시작한것이다. 3절 마지막 보게 되면, “너희가 이 광야로 우리를 인도해 내어 이 온 회중이 주려 죽게 하는도다” 라고 한다. 수만명의 이스라엘 백성들이 먹을 양식이 없으니 이러한 말을 하는것이다. 사람이 배가 너무 고플때는 먹을것 생각이 머리를 전부 지배한다. “우리가 애굽 땅에서 고기 가마 곁에 앉아 있던 때와 떡을 배불리 먹던 때에 여호와의 손에 죽었더라면 좋았을 것을 너희가 이 광야로 우리를 인도해 내어 이 온 회중이 주려 죽게 하는도다” 배가 고프니 옛날에 고기 먹던 시절이 생각 나는것이다. 이게 중요한 부분이다. 우리가 육신적으로 어떤 상황에 당면해 어려움 겪을때 어떤 생각을 하느냐가 중요하다. 이스라엘은 과거에 노예시절을 생각한것이다. 문제를 일으킬수 있는 부분이다. 내 인생이 이것에 굉장한 영향을 받을수가 있다. 배가 고프니 노예시절에 아주 가끔 얻어먹던 고기를 생각하고 있는것이다. 그런데 그 고기가 어떤 고기였나 이 말이다. 가끔 애굽에서 신들에게 제사 지내는데 사용되었던 고기, 그 고기를 얻어먹던때가 생각 난 것이다.  이정도 되면 이스라엘 백성들은 애굽에서 지냈던 제사일을 다 기억하고 있다는 말이 된다. 아, 오늘은 태양신을 섬기는 날, 호루스 신 섬기는 날 이구나 이렇게 기대했을것이다. 고기로 시작해서 생각이 그렇게 행복했던 시절로 착각하여 과거를 떠올리게 되는것이다. 벧후 2:22, “참된 속담에 이르기를 개가 그 토하였던 것에 돌아가고 돼지가 씻었다가 더러운 구덩이에 도로 누웠다 하는 말이 그들에게 응하였도다”. 개들이 자기가 토했던것을 다시 먹듯이, 돼지가 구덩이에 눕듯이 하는 이 모습이 과거에 잡힌 사람들의 영적상태라는 말이다. 우리가 앞으로 나아가야지 과거에 잡혀 있거나 과거를 사랑하면 이렇게 위험한 모습이된다. 과거만 찾다가 모든 축복 다 놓치게 되는것이다.

(2) 하나님이 주시는 답 God's Answer

출 Exodus 16:4-7

그 상태를 하나님이 아시고 답을 주시는것이 4절에 나온다, “ 그 때에 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 보라 내가 너희를 위하여 하늘에서 양식을 비 같이 내리리니” 이스라엘 백성들이 절망 가운데 빠져있는것이다. 광야에서 먹을게 없어서 절대불가능을 본것이다. 이때 하나님이 하늘에서 답 주시겠다 말씀 하신것이다. 우리가 문제 당면하면 하늘을 바라봐야 한다 이 말이다. 하늘에서 비 같이 응답을 주시겠다 하는 말이다. 지금까지 먹었던것은 애굽에서 가져온 것 이나 이제는 하늘에서 내리는 양식을 주겠다 하는 말씀이다. 하나님을 찾는 자에게 주시는 상상치 못하는 축복을 우리가 알아야겠다. 하나님은 불가능이 없으시다. 구하면 반드시 주신다. 우리 구원 받은 자가 먹는 양식이 무엇인가? 땅의 양식이 아니라 하나님께서 위에서 축복하여 내리시는 하늘양식 이다. 하늘보좌에서 축복 하셔서 하늘의 것을 주시는 하나님이다. 여러분에게 주신 기업이나 사업, 양식, 모든것은 하나님께서 하늘에서 내리시는것임을 깨달으시기 바란다. 거기에 모든 응답과 생명의 양식이 들어있다. 5절, ‘여섯째 날에는 그들이 그 거둔 것을 준비할지니 날마다 거두던 것의 갑절이 되리라” 그냥 주시는것도 감사한데 여섯째 날에는 갑절로 주신다 했다. 왜? 안식일을 위해서. 다시말해 예배를 위해서. 예배 통해 하나님께 영광 돌릴 뿐만 아니라 하늘에서 주시는 영적 새힘 얻을수 있다. 그것이 바로 예배 통해서 이루어진다. 그러면서 6-7절 말씀보면, 양식을 통해 하나님이 우리에게 주시는 축복이 나타난다. “모세와 아론이 온 이스라엘 자손에게 이르되 저녁이 되면 너희가 여호와께서 너희를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내셨음을 알 것이요” 하나님의 인도와 보호의 증거가 나타나게 될것이다 하는 말씀이다. 아침에는 여호와의 영광을 보리라 하신다. 아침과 저녁동안 실질적으로 너희가 아, 하나님이 우리를 보호하고 인도 하시는구나 알수 있게 하신다는 말 이다.

하나님은 여러분의 아침과 낮 밤속에서 함께 하시는 것을 나타내시고 계시다. 인도하여내셔서 함께 하심과 영광을 보게 하리라 하셨다. 매일 이것을 현장에서 확인 해야 하는것이다. 정말 여러분도 날마다 하나님이 내게 주시는 축복 무엇인가 확인 해 보셔야 할것이다. 항상 주고 계신다. 

2. 하나님의 치유 God's Healing

(1) 다 들었노라 I have heard the complaints

출 Exodus 16:8-12

8절, “모세가 또 이르되 여호와께서 저녁에는 너희에게 고기를 주어 먹이시고 아침에는 떡으로 배불리시리니 이는 여호와께서 자기를 향하여 너희가 원망하는 그 말을 들으셨음이라”. 이스라엘 백성들은 신앙생활 하면서도 하나님이 모든것 보고 듣고 계시다는것 몰랐던것이다. 그렇게 모세와 아론에게 원망 하는것이다. 이에 모세가 이야기 하기를, “우리가 누구냐 너희의 원망은 우리를 향하여 함이 아니요 여호와를 향하여 함이로다”. 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성들에게 제일 먼저 주신 말씀이 치유의 말씀 인것을 볼 수가 있다. “너희가 원망하는 그 말을 들으셨음이라” 이게 세번이나 반복된다. 우리가 세상자녀에서 하나님 자녀로 바뀌었다하면 제일 먼저 버려야 할게 원망하는 습관이다. 원망과 불평은 사람과의 관계는 물론 하나님과의 관계도 깨트린다. 원망은 열매를 맺는다. 원망이 많은 자들은 완강한 고집을 가지고 있기도 하다. 원망불평 하는 자들은 점점 사람앞에 교만하고 무시하는 마음을 가지게된다. 하나님도 무시하는 지경이 된다. 이런 사람들의 결말은 몰락이다. 고전 10:10, “그들 가운데 어떤 사람들이 원망하다가 멸망시키는 자에게 멸망하였나니 너희는 그들과 같이 원망하지 말라”. 원망 대신 하늘을 바라보고 하나님께 나아가야 하는 것이다. 원망하는 모습을 보고 10절에 하나님이 친히 답 주신다, “아론이 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중에게 말하매 그들이 광야를 바라보니 여호와의 영광이 구름 속에 나타나더라”. 또 12절 말씀보면 “내가 이스라엘 자손의 원망함을 들었노라” 친히 말씀하신다. 내가 다 듣고 있다는 것을 알아라, 그 불평이 멸망의 원인이 되니 거두어라 하는 말씀이다. 이어서 중요한 말씀 하신다, “너희가 해 질 때에는 고기를 먹고 아침에는 떡으로 배부르리니 내가 여호와 너희의 하나님인 줄 알리라 하라 하시니라”. 내가 너에게 주는 모든것, 아침 저녁으로 주는것이 내 사랑의 증표이니 너희는 그것을 알고 붙잡아라 하는 말씀이다. 우리가 삶을 돌아보면 하나님이 도와주시지 않은 것이 없을것이다. 우리가 숨쉬는것 조차도 하나님이 허락 하지 않으시면 불가능하다. 여기까지 인도 하신것도 하나님의 은혜이다. 그것이 바로 내가 바로 네 하나님이다 하는 증거로 주신것이다. 이것을 붙잡게 되면 여러분들은 승리의 길로 갈 줄을 믿는다. 5절 중요한 말씀 붙잡아야겠다, “여섯째 날에는 그들이 그 거둔 것을 준비할지니 날마다 거두던 것의 갑절이 되리라” 이 말씀은 4절에도 나온다, “ 일용할 것을 날마다 거둘 것이라” 주기도문 드릴때도 이렇게 말한다.  

(2) 일용할 양식의 비밀 The Secret of Daily Bread

마 Matthew 4:4

출 Exodus 15:15-16

하나님께서 이스라엘 백성들에게 그날 먹을 양식을 그날 주시는것을 볼수있다. 중요한 사실이다. 한꺼번에 일년치 한달치 주지 않으시고 매일 그때그때 먹을 양식으로 주신다. 이세상 모든 사람들이 매일 음식을 섭취해야 되도록 창조되었다. 그가 왕이든, 재벌이든, 유명인이든 이 조건은 동일하다. 능력이 아무리 좋은 사람인들 한달치 미리 먹고 한달동안 배부르거나 할수 없다. 매일 먹지 않으면 죽는것이다. 이게 하나님의 법칙이다. 영적인 양식도 마찬가지이다. 하나님께서 수년간 은혜를 지속할수 있는 은혜를 주신적이 없다. 매일마다 새로운 은혜 주시는 하나님이다. 과거에 큰 은혜 받았다 하는 사람도 있다. 그때 사로잡혀서 옛날에 내가 이렇게 했으니 괜찮다 생각 하고 있을수도 있다. 그 교만함과 잘못된 생각에 빠지게 되면 사람이 영적으로 말라가게된다. 그날 주시는 양식을 그날 받지 않으면 그날 그만큼 말라가게 된다. 계속 굶다가는 영적 거지가 되어버린다. 예수님께서 마 4:4에 말씀 하신다, “예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 기록되었으되 사람이 떡으로만 살 것이 아니요 하나님의 입으로부터 나오는 모든 말씀으로 살 것이라 하였느니라 하시니” 진짜 양식은 음식이 아닌 하나님의 말씀인 영적양식 이라는 것이다. 매일 이 영의 말씀 먹을때 건강한 신앙인이 되는것이다. 그래서 하나님께서 출 15:25-26 에 시험 하셨다는 내용이 나온다. “내가 보기에 의를 행하며 내 계명에 귀를 기울이며 내 모든 규례를 지키면”. 지금 하나님께서 당부하시기를 우리가 말씀따라 살아야 하는데 어떻게 살아야 하는가 이 말이다. 의를 행하라 했다, 이는 그리스도께 집중 하라는 의미다. 계명에 귀를 귀울이라 하는것은 말씀 집중 하라는 것 이다. 모든 규례를 지키는것 – 과거에 집중하지 말고 지금 내 삶에 집중하는것이다. 올해 하나님이 우리에게 주신 축복이 이것이다, 3오늘의 축복 시작하는 것. 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 축복이다. 우리가 아침, 낮, 밤, 놓치지 않고 집중하면 하나님이 놀라운 축복 주실것이다. 원단메시지로 주신것이 나의 달려갈 길과 주께 받은 절대사명이다. 3오늘에 집중 하시기를 바란다. 1년만 해도 영적인 축복과 역사가 나타날것이다. 이것을 위해 두번째로 잡을것이 16:4 이다, “이같이 하여 그들이 내 율법을 준행하나 아니하나 내가 시험하리라” 안식일을 이들이 제대로 지키는지 아닌지 보겠다는 말씀이다. 예배를 통해 하나님의 새로운 계획이 선포 되기 때문이다. 여러분 통해 이번 한주간 하나님의 뜻을 성취시킬 계획이 바로 강단에서 선포 되는것이다. 이 말씀을 예배 통해 받게되면 하나님이 축복 해 주신다. 하나님의 놀라우신 신령한 복이 비처럼 내리게 될 줄을 믿는다. 하루의 만나와 메추라기가 비처럼 여러분의 영혼을 채워주실줄 믿는다. 이 축복 받는 여러분 되기를 축원한다. 

3. 살아계신 하나님 The Living God

(1) 응답하시는 하나님 God Who Answers

창 Genesis 28:12

우리는 날마다 살아계신 하나님 체험해야한다. 야곱을 보겠다. 그를 보며 항상 응답 주시는 하나님을 붙잡아야겠다. 창28:12, “꿈에 본즉 사닥다리가 땅 위에 서 있는데 그 꼭대기가 하늘에 닿았고 또 본즉 하나님의 사자들이 그 위에서 오르락내리락 하고” 이것을 믿으시는가? 여러분의 기도 한마디도 땅에 떨어지지 않고 천사들이 하나님께로 전달된다. 이 사실 붙잡을때 하나님이 응답 주신다. 우리와 함께 계시는 하나님이다, 

(2) 보고 계시는 하나님 God Who Sees

창 Genesis 28:13

28:13, “또 본즉 여호와께서 그 위에 서서 이르시되 나는 여호와니 너의 조부 아브라함의 하나님이요 이삭의 하나님이라 네가 누워 있는 땅을 내가 너와 네 자손에게 주리니” 위에서 전부 다 보고 계시는 사실 놓치지 마시라. 

(3) 축복하시는 하나님 God Who Blesses

창 Genesis 28:15

세번째로 성취하시고 축복 하시는 하나님되심을 놓치지 마시라, 창 28:15, “내가 너와 함께 있어 네가 어디로 가든지 너를 지키며 너를 이끌어 이 땅으로 돌아오게 할지라 내가 네게 허락한 것을 다 이루기까지 너를 떠나지 아니하리라 하신지라” 저는 이 사실 확실히 믿는다. 하나님이 함께 계시고 지키시고 계획하신것 우리 통해 이루실때까지 전적으로 인도 하신다는 사실 믿고 계시는가? 반드시 뜻하신 모든것 이루실것이다. 여러분들을 향하신 하나님의 약속의 말씀이다. 이 말씀 붙잡고 승리 하시라. 

결론 Conclusion

마 Matthew 6:32

말씀 맺겠다. 마 6:32, “이는 다 이방인들이 구하는 것이라 너희 하늘 아버지께서 이 모든 것이 너희에게 있어야 할 줄을 아시느니라”. 이스라엘 백성들은 배가 고프니까 원망불평에 빠져 옛날에 노예 시절을 떠올리며 불신앙 한것이다. 하나님이 다 예비 하셨는데 보지를 못하는것이다. 하나님이 말씀 하신다, “너희 하늘 아버지께서 이 모든 것이 너희에게 있어야 할 줄을 아시느니라” 모든 상황 다 알고 계시는 하나님이 채워주시고 해결 해 주실줄 믿는다. 이 응답 받는 여러분 되시기를 주 예수 이름으로 축원한다.

1 And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt. 2 Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. 3 And the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” 4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not. 5 And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.” 6 Then Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, “At evening you shall know that the Lord has brought you out of the land of Egypt. 7 And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord; for He hears your complaints against the Lord. But what are we, that you complain against us?” 8 Also Moses said, “This shall be seen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to the full; for the Lord hears your complaints which you make against Him. And what are we? Your complaints are not against us but against the Lord.” 9 Then Moses spoke to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, ‘Come near before the Lord, for He has heard your complaints.’ ” 10 Now it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud. 11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”

Introduction

This is about Park Ji-Man, the son of one of the former presidents of South Korea, Park Chung-Hee. In 1974, his mother, the first lady, Yuk Young-soo, passed away after being shot. Five years later, his father, Park Chung-Hee was shot and assassinated. His son, Park Ji-Man lost all hope and fell into addiction with drugs and alcohol. He became addicted to drugs and ended up going to prison five times due to his addiction. Every time he went to jail, there was one thing that he realized. He realized that his problems will be solved if he goes to church. But no one came to him to evangelize him or told him to go to church. His father once went to a church and in that church, his father had a close friend and this close friend encouraged to go to church with him. I think God truly loved Park Ji-Man very much and after he went to church, he met with God. He was addicted to drugs for 13 years and he became liberated from his drug addiction after meeting God. He was able to completely be freed from addiction and met his wife there. His wife was originally a buddhist and a lawyer, and she was very intelligent. After she heard that her father attended church, she started attending church too. God blessed this family. God blessed with a gift, which was four sons. He was able to come out of his fundamental problem of drug addiction through Christ alone. He wasn’t bound by his past and he was able to become renewed through Christ. Today’s sermon is very important. 

1. Grace in the Wilderness of Sin

(1) The People Longing for the Past

Verses 1-3 - As we spoke last week, Elim was an oasis. The Israelites had to depart from this oasis that provided them with comfort and security. This was because their final destination was not Elim but it was Canaan. This has a very important meaning here. When we raise children, they look so beautiful and cute and we wish that they stay this young forever. But they cannot stop growing and we need them to grow. They need to grow and become mature adults. This is the same thing for our walk of faith. It shouldn’t end after you receive salvation. You may be very happy when you get saved but we shouldn’t stop there. When you accept Christ, your state is at the level of an infant. Your faith needs to grow and mature. They needed to depart Elim, the oasis and set out towards Canaan. After they departed Egypt on the 15th day of the second month means that it has only been one month since they departed. This is important because this means that they ran out of their month's worth of food. They only packed enough food for one month. After they ran out of food, they started grumbling and complaining to Moses and Aaron. You may wonder why the Israelites were grumbling but it was only natural for them to grumble and complain in this situation. They left Egypt and were in the wilderness, and they had no food and water. They couldn’t even grow food or farm in the wilderness. If you run out of food, of course, you will panic. So what ended up happening? They started grumbling and complaining. 

Verse 3 - The Israelites ran out of food and water so they thought that they would end in the wilderness. When you are hungry, all you can think about is food and eating. You start remembering all of the yummy food that you ate in the past. What the Israelites were thinking and remembering were all of the food that they ate in Egypt. They were reminiscing of the times where their stomachs were full in Egypt. This is important. When we are met with a crisis and a physical problem, what do you do and what are your thoughts? What the Israelites were thinking were thoughts of the past and they thought that their life of slavery was good. This is the problem. In your life, this could greatly impact your life. The life of your past and slavery, the Israelites kept thinking about it. But what meat and food did they eat in Egypt? They were eating the leftover meat that was used for sacrifices and idol worship services. If the Israelites were reminiscing about the meat that they ate, this means that they were bound by the past life of idolatry. They knew that days of worship services of idols, they knew that they would be able to meet meat on those days. They were looking forward to those days where the Egyptians would worship idols. They would gain happiness on those days. They were reminiscing the days of idolatry and old life of slavery 

2 Peter 2:22 “But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: ‘A dog returns to his own vomit,’ and, ‘a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.’ ” - A dog would return its own vomit to consume it. This means that the Israelites were returned to their past and only think about their past. We need to only direct towards our future. If we keep looking back, then we are losing all of the blessings that God has prepared for us. God knew of this. God gave them an answer. 

(2) God's Answer

Verses 4-7 - The Israelites were bound by their despair. There was no food or water for them in the wilderness. But at that moment, God gave them an answer. From the heaven above, God said that He will give them answers. If you have a problem, you need to look above for an answer. God said that in the past, you received all of your food from Egypt but now on, God will give them answers and food. We can see God’s unimaginable and abundant answers here if we look to God. There is nothing impossible for God. If we look towards God, then God will give us answers. As Christians, what food are we consuming? I think we are still consuming food of our past. The food that we consume needs not to be of this world but we need to consume food from above. God will give us from above which means that God will give us answers from above. We need to hold onto this. From here, there are all blessings and answers. 

Verse 5 - On the sixth day, God promised that He will give them a double portion. Why would God do this? For the Sabbath and for them to keep the Sabbath. In other words, for the sake of worship. Through worship, we need to give glory to God and God will give us new strength. God will not only give us food but God will give us strength from above. This is from worship alone. 

Verses 6-7  God guided and protected them out of Egypt and until now. God said that He will show them that God is with them and guided them until now. Every single day, God will show you evidence that He is always with you, guiding, and protecting you. God said that He will show you His glory every single day. God is saying that we need to verify God’s presence and glory every single day. We need to check this. We need to verify this. 

2. God's Healing

(1) I have heard the complaints

Verses 8-12 - I think the Israelites didn’t know that God was watching over them and listening to them. That is why when they were in the wilderness, they kept complaining and grumbling to Moses and Aaron. The fact that they were complaining and grumbling, they were doing it not to Aaron and Moses but to God. This is what Moses and Aaron told them. God was trying to heal the Israelites here. We can see the Israelites complaining and grumbling from verses 8-12. As we walk of faith, the one thing that we need to discard once and for all is our complaining and grumbling. Because you complain and grumble, it will destroy your relationship with God. You will bear the fruits of grumbling and complaining. Those who complain and grumble all the time, they are so stubborn. Those who continue to complain and grumble, then you start becoming arrogant. And, those who continue to do this, then you are not acknowledging who God really is and doubting God’s power. Those who complain and grumble, the end result will be destruction and despair. 

1 Corinthians 10:10 “Nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.” - It is the same result for people who complain, the end result is absolute destruction. I have never seen one person who always complains and grumbles succeed in life. This is what the people of this world do. When a problem comes, you need to look towards God. We need to hold onto those who look up to God in times of crises then God will heal you. 

Verses 10-11 - When God saw the Israelites complaining, this is the answer that God gave them. God was saying that He hears everything that they say. God is saying that He hears all of their complaining and grumbling, and God tells them to healed of this. 

Verse 12 - God said that everything God provided them is showing that He is their God and His love to them. In our lives, God helps us with everything. The fact that we are breathing, God could make us stop breathing at any moment. The fact that you are healthy right now and alive, that is God’s grace. This is proof that God is your God. When you hold onto this, then you will be victorious. 

(2) The Secret of Daily Bread

Verses 4-5 - In the Lord’s prayer, we ask God to give us daily bread. We can see that God gave the Israelites their daily bread and food. This is important. God could’ve given them months worth of food but God only gave them enough food for just one day at a time. The people of this world have to eat food every single day to survive. Even kings and wealthy people, and whoever you are, you have to eat every single day to survive. If you don’t eat every single day, you will die. This is a concept that God created. This is the same thing for our spiritual food. God doesn’t give you all of your answers and grace all at once. Every single day, God gives you His grace. Those who are arrogant and think that if you just receive grace once and think that is enough then you will spiritually wilt away. You need to receive your spiritual food every single day. If you deplete yourself of spiritual food every single day then you will perish of spiritual hunger. 

Matthew 4:4 “But He answered and said, ‘It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ’ ” - This means that real spiritual food is not the physical food that we eat but it is the word of God that we must consume every single day. If we consume the word of God every single day, then you will become spiritually healthy and strong. 

Exodus 15:26 “And said, 'If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.' ” - God is telling them we must live by the word of God. How do we live like this? Focus and concentrate on God. Concentrate on God’s voice, heed the voice of the Lord God. Give ear to His commandments means to concentrate on God’s word. Keep God’s statues and focus on the future that God has prepared for you. This means that we shouldn’t look back on our past. This is so important. This year the blessing that God has given to us is the 3 todays. This is the blessing that God has given to us. If we concentrate on God and His word, then we will receive great blessings throughout the day. May we focus on the three todays. This is what God wants you to do this year. If we do this, then great spiritual blessings will come to us. God wants to give you His answers and reveal His plan through His daily word. This is why it is so important for us to seek after God’s daily word. If we restore worship, then we can see the fulfillment of God’s word in our lives. We will see God’s great blessings from above in our lives. May we receive these great blessings.

3. The Living God

(1) God Who Answers

Genesis 28:12 “He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.” - Do we believe in this? Every prayer that you pray, the angel will take it up to heaven and to God. Every prayer of yours goes to God. We must believe in this. 

(2) God Who Sees

Genesis 28:13 “And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: ‘I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants.’ ” - God is always watching over us. We must not lose hold of this. God is always watching you from heaven above. 

(3) God Who Blesses

Genesis 28:15 “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” - God who sees everything, He will fulfill His covenant. I have absolute conviction of this covenant. I truly believe that this covenant will be fulfilled in your life. Do you believe that God is with you? Do you believe that God is protecting and watching over you? God will continue to guide you until His covenant is fulfilled. Until that happens, God will always be with you. God will fulfill His plan. This is the message of promise that God has given to you. 

Conclusion

Matthew 6:32 “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” - The Israelites were so hungry that they were complaining and grumbling, and kept thinking about the past. But God saw all of this and prepared everything that they needed from heaven above. God knows that you need all of those things. God knows everything. God will fill your lacking and will solve your problems.
